Found Safe NC - Kaitlin Benjamin-Olsen 19, Cog Impairm't, LE looking to ID POI, Fayetteville, 5 Feb'22 *Arrest*

After almost two months, Kaitlin's case finally has national coverage. It is featured on Nancy Grace's Crime Stories. I'm just now going to listen to it, so don't know yet what is covered -- but the description says that she talks to Kaitlin's mother, along with a NC family attorney, an NYC psychologist, a special deputy sheriff from KS who is the director of the Kelsey Smith Foundation, and a victim advocate who has a true crime podcast. I'm looking forward to hearing what they have to say.

Crime Stories with Nancy Grace: Ginger-Haired Teen With Mind of 7-year-old, Kidnapped for Sex

Just finished listening to Nancy Grace's podcast and it does cover some new information. One thing that hasn't been reported before is that someone (undoubtedly the POI, Chris) has been trying to get access to Kaitlin's Social Security Disability payments. Her mother said that they also know that in an Instagram message he had asked Kaitlin to bring her birth certificate and social security card with her. She didn't say if K knew where to find them or if she did take them with her. So, now we know the motive. LE should be able to identify him through his Instagram account, but as of yesterday they told the mother that they are still waiting for Instagram to come through with the information. The deputy sheriff on the podcast said that Instagram is notoriously slow in cooperating with LE.

All agreed that with all of the information that is available, Kaitlin should have been found long ago. The mother talked to the FBI, but they can't get involved unless the local LE asks for their help, and the local LE refuses to ask. Nancy is really angry about the lack of interest by LE and the media. She is going to contact the detective in charge and put pressure on the sheriff's office to ask the FBI to become involved, and she urged all of her listeners to also contact the detective. I thought it was strange, though, that Nancy talked about the pictures of the POI and his vehicles, and described them, but the pictures are not on her web site.

There is more, and I would have transcribed the main points, but I've been up all night so I need to try to get a few hours sleep. I'll do it tonight if someone else hasn't already done so.

Great news!!! Kaitlin has been found safe! Interesting how fast she was found after the Nancy Grace broadcast which discussed the local LE's lack of action and refusal to ask for FBI involvement. Nancy talked about using her resources to put pressure on LE to bring in the FBI. They must have done so, because in Kaitlin's mother's message she thanks the police, FBI, Nancy Grace and Jury Files. It is too bad that it took so long, when she could probably have been found much sooner -- but I'm happy that she is safe and will be home soon.

FOUND: Missing 19-Year-Old With Mind of 7-Year-Old Is on Her Way Home

A missing 19-year-old woman with an intellectual disability has been found safe, her mother announced Tuesday morning.

Kaitlin Benjamin-Olsen was last seen leaving her home early in the morning on February 5 and was believed to have been in the company of man named “Chris” she met online.

Kaitlin’s mother, Lisa Benjamin, told Nancy Grace that her daughter and 21-year-old son met with “Chris” at the local Family Dollar Store and that Kaitlyn disappeared that night.

Authorities said they’d seen pings from Kaitlin’s phone in Miami on shortly after her disappearance and in Orlando a week later, but she hadn’t been heard from since that time.

“I can go on record now my daughter katie was found yesterday live n well n she will be home soon,” Lisa Benjamin wrote in a Facebook post.

The North Carolina Department of Public Safety announced on Monday that they’d cancelled the Silver Alert for Kaitlyn. Neither her mother nor authorities have provided further information.

Found in New Orleans! Suspect arrested on a federal kidnapping charge.

Cumberland County teen found, man with her arrested by US Marshals

A Cumberland County teen missing since Feb. 5 was located in New Orleans on Monday and the man who was with her was arrested by U.S. Marshals, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.

According to a Tuesday evening Sheriff's Office news release, Kaitlin Marie Benjamin-Olsen, 19, was located at 10 a.m. by members of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Louisiana State Police. She was described by family as having the cognitive ability of a 7-year-old.

"She was taken into protective custody without incident by members of the FBI," the release said.

The man with her, Duncan Thomas Sherrington, 51, was arrested on a federal kidnapping charge, according to Deputy U.S. Marshal Brian Fair, spokesman for the Eastern District of Louisiana, U.S. Marshal Service,

Sherrington is being held in the Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana, jail on a U.S. Marshal hold, according to a jail booking officer.

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office said Sherrington, a native of England, has used several aliases including Thomas Johnson and "Chris."

Cumberland County Sheriff Ennis Wright said Special Agent Seth Goodwin of the Social Security Administration's Atlanta Field Division was instrumental during the investigation.

"Benjamin-Olsen is safe and is on her way home to be reunited with her family," the news release said. "The investigation was turned over to the FBI after Sherrington left the state with Benjamin-Olsen."
