Hubby has to fly to Charlotte in a few days and this is terrifying me. Does anyone have a live feed? TIA.

When and where will be he heading to?

I'm sorry, our Dallas officers were "out in front" protecting the people who spit in their faces so casually, and lives were lost for the privilege of doing so. Our Fort Worth cops, two just shot after responding to a fake call. To every cop who has been ambushed on the job, or who lives every day with that very real possibility, they will have my undying gratitude. They walk into danger every single day. The majority of them are veterans who risked all once before and do so again as LEOs because they actually love their communities and want to protect them. But the spin doctors won't be talking about that.

There are bad guys everywhere, in every walk of life. They need to be weeded out, every da*n one of them. But I put it to you all that there are far, far more dangers to black men, women, and children within their own communities -- rampant gang activity, drugs, illegal firearms -- than are found standing behind a badge. That's just the truth.

It's asked a lot, but never addressed: Why is there no outcry over the evil perpetrated by members within the black community? Why don't the lives lost to that violence matter just as much? Until people step up and DO something other than scream about what the other guy is/isn't/should be doing, nothing will change. Nothing.

I see nothing constructive in what's happening tonight. Just feed the rage. It's one more excuse to be violent without repercussions and loot, destroy, and damage.

I'm done, just worn out, saddened and sickened.

Absolutely agree. The demonstrations and protests are necessary - the people deserve to have a voice and be heard - but the violence and disregard for life that came after has no place anywhere in any world. It's sickening to see people descend into lawlessness like that. Telling them they are hurting the fight for justice doesn't help. Telling them they are hurting themselves and their communities doesn't help. I don't get it.

Someone said earlier and it's true - like when we watch frat party or sports riot videos. The circumstances and results are extremely different, but I don't understand how a person's brain can switch into a mode where needless violence and aggression is accessible.

I'd rather not say for the sake of privacy but the businesses that were looted were places we have been to very often when in town on business. I hope this calms down soon and I hope you are all ok!

Charlotte Police Shooting Video Not ‘Definitive,’ Chief Says

The chief, Kerr Putney of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, said that while he had no plans to release the video of the shooting to the public, he did intend to show it to Mr. Scott’s family, at their request.

“The video does not give me absolute, definitive, visual evidence that would confirm that a person is pointing a gun,” Chief Putney said at a news conference, though he has said that witness accounts and evidence suggest that this is what happened.

“When taking in the totality of all the other evidence, it supports what we’ve heard and the version of the truth that we gave about the circumstances that happened that led to the death of Mr. Scott,” Chief Putney said.

He said the department’s practice was not to release video to the public, to protect the integrity of investigations. And, in this incident, he said, the case may soon be out of his hands.

“Even though we’re investigating, we probably won’t be long term,” he said, citing a request that the F.B.I. take over the inquiry. “I’m not going to release anything that would be on somebody else to release.”

http://abc7chicago.com/news/charlot...over-keith-lamont-scott-police-death/1520580/

Scott has a lengthy criminal record, including convictions in Texas, North Carolina and South Carolina. Texas records showed he was convicted of evading arrest with a vehicle in 2005, and several months later, of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The officers who approached him didn't know this and were not looking for him at the time. As far as they knew he was clean Joe Citizen doing nothing other than sitting in his car, possibly with a gun he was legally permitted to carry.

He started out with a lot of thanking people--the police, officials, the president, the national guard, etc.
There is also flooding in North Eastern part of the state and he praised the efforts of emergency workers in Raleigh
He called for peace, and said Charlotte is a great city to live in and beautiful place to visit
Then he handed it to the mayor and the news talked over them...I had to find another channel. That is all I got out of the Governor's speech

After violent protests, Charlotte police chief vows not to make shooting video public

Following a second night of violent protests in downtown Charlotte that left 14 police officers and civilians injured, the city’s police chief insisted Thursday he has no intention of releasing video footage of the fatal police shooting of Keith Lamont Scott, whose death sparked the unrest.

“If you think I say we should display a victim’s worst day for public consumption, that is not the transparency I’m speaking of,” Chief Kerr Putney said at a news conference.

“I never said full transparency,” Putney said. “I said transparency, and transparency is in the eye of the beholder.”

Protesters have rejected the police description of Scott as armed and dangerous when police encountered him Tuesday, and have demanded that video of the fatal confrontation be made public.

The police video he had seen, Putney said, did not give him “absolute definitive visual evidence” that would confirm that a person is pointing a gun.” But the “totality of all other evidence” supported “the version of the truth” that the police had given about Mr. Scott’s death, he said.

Transparency is in the eye of the beholder. What kind of crap is that?

“There’s your truth, my truth and the truth. Some people have already made up their minds about what happened,” the police chief said, adding that his department has provided multiple details of the shooting.

So he admits his truth is not necessarily THE truth but he won't let us see any evidence to reach our own truth - we just have to trust him.

Right.

Reminds me of Rahm Emanuel.

He never said "full transparency." As if "A little transparent" is a thing.

Oh god. I live in England and one of my best friends moved to Charlotte (with her hubby and 3 little kids) a couple of weeks ago. She'd been sending pics from the city and having a great time and now she's not, she's upset and scared and so are we, it's taken the edge off her new life out there. But as she said, she will get over it, the town will recover, and then it will happen all over again somewhere else. Sad.

They cancelled classes at CPCC (where I work) and are starting to send people home early. We are about a mile from Trade & Tryon where protesters gathered last night. I know they rolled some National Guard people into the area but I can't see anything from my office. Also, the National Guard is stationed at the airport which about 15 minutes away from uptown.

This is certainly worse than what happened with the bombs in NYC over the weekend. It might not meet the definition of terrorism but it sure feels the same, and that's from a person thousands of miles away.

That might be helpful - maybe the rioters are fair-weather rioters.

(I do separate protesters from rioters.)

Thank you! Disappointing that the newscasters/reporters talked over the elected officials.
