A blunt is a cigar hollowed out and filled with marijuana. It is rolled with the tobacco-leaf "wrapper" from an inexpensive cigar.

That link claims they saw him hold up the gun which gave them probable cause for the marijuana thing. I'm thinking it's more likely they saw him with the marijuana and moved in. I have a hard time believing he parked next to a cop and showed off his gun. JMO

Regardless of the order in which they saw it, we're talking about a loaded handgun and an illegal substance.

We can stop with the rhetoric that he was sitting there doing a cross word puzzle and the big bad cops came to bother him for no reason.

He was breaking the law, plain and simple. Had he accepted responsibility for it, he'd likely still be alive today.

To me it looked like he was moving backwards so that the officers would be directly in his line of fire. Getting into position, gun in hand, locked and loaded.

He was backpedaling away from the officers in front of the SUV and pickup while keeping an eye on them. Your opinion makes sense. JMO

If I understand it correctly the first officers at the scene were in an unmarked car and undercover, not in uniform.

We only see the body cam and dash cam from the uniformed officer who was called as backup. The officers who were in unmarked cars and not in uniform observed the illegal activity and the gun before any video was taken.

It's not this one single solitary incident that caused protests and riots, y'all.

It's usually just an incident that is a catalyst for the larger problem that has caused their frustration and anger. Straw that broke the back, etc.

The officers were in an unmarked car. They were going to ignore the blunt. When they saw him handling the gun they left to put on identifiers (vests, uniforms or the like) before returning, where they saw him with it a second time.

You're ok with guns and drugs in your neighborhood, good for you. The vast majority of citizens don't share that view. You wouldn't hear much complaining if a white guy was caught hanging with guns and drugs at the bus stop. If said white guy did the same thing as in this case,, and the outcome was the same, few tears would be shed.

if he was intending to get down on the ground and surrender (ie comply) then he would have left the gun in the car, or dropped the gun at some point.

it doesnt really make sense that if he intended to comply that he would not have dropped the gun.

but i suppose if you still want to believe that he never had a gun or never had it in his hand then you can argue this point.

it is now established to my satisfaction that he had a gun in his hand throughout the incident.

They may get better results if they wait and see what the evidence shows and pick the ones that are truly an injustice. Better yet, stick to peaceful protests and not violence to affect needed change. JMO

And if he was still on probation from his prior he would probably be spending a long time in prison for the possession of the gun by a felon. Even if he was not on probation he could get quite a lengthy sentence. IMO he showed the gun the first time because he did not know they were under cover. Once he realized it he was not going to be taken peacefully.

Not really. There is one big question, IMHO. Why didn't LE try to deescalate? They took time to suit up and then returned to confront him. Then they went in like the perp had kidnapped kids and had them tied up in the back of his vehicle. Not like he was smoking a blunt. And, I've seen no evidence he was waving a gun at anyone.

Actually, I am ok with guns and marijuana in my neighborhood because both are legal. Said white guy would likely not be approached, whether the marijuana was legal or not. JMO.

I'm not the one who was gonna sit in my car and ignore someone rolling a blunt somewhere it's not a legal substance, so don't give me crud for that. That's on the officers, had they never seen the gun.
