I want to see the witness statements. Mainly to see if any witnesses say it was a habit of his to show up at the bus area and show his gun. As much as I want to see them, I also think law enforcement needs to make sure all witnesses are protected from retaliation.

Surely during this very tense climate they will fully redact the name of all witnesses who were willing to speak with the police. So many in situations like this are fearful of the backlash if they do. They should be commended and not harassed or threatened.

I cant see PCKP being reckless. I think he will try to protect their safety and ID as much as he possibly can.

I just hope none of the media hounds finds out who they are. The media act like idiots in cases like this and all they care about is the story and imo they enjoy it a whole lot more when things turn violent. I have seen some of the reporters that seem like they were trying to incite some of the protestors to act out violently even more. Some of these national news cable channels have been severely struggling with low viewer ratings and they think violent riots will bring in more viewers. No wonder the MSM is polling as low as our politicians now when it comes to truthfulness, fairness, ethics, and honesty.

You keep saying you know the law then you have to know Mr. Scott was in possession of a dangerous firearm that by law he wasn't suppose to ever have because he was an ex-felon. Right? Is that the law you are talking about? What part of this law makes Mr. Scott have the lawful right to own, open carry or possess a firearm whether its in his own vehicle or anywhere else? Open carry laws come with restrictions. Its not one size fits all. All ex-felons are excluded from those rights and we should be very thankful for that because some do adhere to the rules once they get out of prison.

He knew he was illegally carrying. He knew beforehand he was breaking the law that could land him serious time if he was found to be in possession of one. It wasn't even an open carry situation with him walking down the sidewalk in plain sight at first. His firearm was with him inside of his vehicle until he got out in the open with it when the police approached him.

What I don't understand is what part of the law do you think covers Mr. Scott's right to own any firearm...........open carry or not?

Why in the world would he be sitting there smoking pot when he also knew that was illegal in the state of NC? Especially already knowing he had an illegal firearm with him?

We love our guns in this state, so yeah, our republican legislature has made sure you can take guns wherever you want. You have to produce a birth certificate to use the bathroom though. Our motto is it's easier to get a gun than to vote.

Maybe it's just me, but Keith Scott has a very long history of poor judgement skills, and extremely risky behavior, going back to before his reported TBI. He had 14 arrests in 3 states in just a few years time. What make anyone think his decision skills are suddenly going to get "better", now that he reportedly has a TBI??

There is no way to know what he was going to do next. Speculation gets us nowhere IMO

EXACTLY. There is no way of knowing what an armed, high, non compliant subject is going to do next. And that is why the officers are so defensive in that situation. Plenty of cops get shot in theses kinds of erratic circumstances. People don't want to get arrested for all kinds of reasons. Sometimes they have warrants or are on parole and will go to prison for many years if arrested. So they have nothing to lose and will shoot the cops if they feel trapped.

If he was going to get on the ground, why not drop the weapon?

When I was 18 I took a collage co-op job at the RMV. While work one day, I saw a white woman grab her interracial toddler by the hair and whip him onto a bench. (She was pissed cause he was kept whining for her soda and chips). Then she came up to my desk, and yelled in my face, that the fines and fees we had were "Outrageous"! Without pausing for thought, I said, quietly, " So is the way some people treat their kids".

I lost my job over that. The director of the RMV had me apologize, but the woman said that she was not satisfied with that, and I was fired. Later on, the director said to me, "I hate to let you go, but did you notice her child was Biracial?" I said I don't care what color the child was, no deserves that kind of treatment. He goes, " I agree with you, But affirmative action would be all over us in a situation like this."

And it's only gotten worse, never has it been an advantage to check that race box, on so many forms, with white.

I'm very sorry that happened to you and what your boss said makes zero sense. Affirmative action would have nothing to do with this situation.

This right here convinces me that the police officers did indeed run the plates, have an ID, and knew exactly who Keith Scott was, and that he was an ex-felon with a substantial criminal record, when they confronted him.

Police were going to let it go and continue on their original mission until an officer spotted a weapon in the vehicle, Putney said.

“It was not lawful for him to possess a firearm,” Putney said. “There was a crime he committed and the gun exacerbated the situation.”

Exactly! I would have to assume he could be under the influence of MULTIPLE substances, to be so bold as to openly smoke a blunt and display a firearm in a parking lot. And behave so defiantly to so many officers at once.

No telling how the situation might unfold, or what a suspect who is under the influence, and armed, might do.

The officers were taking cover behind the pickup -- dude had a gun, what would YOU do? They had pulled up in plainclothes and unmarked car (pickup?) when they saw the blunt AND the gun. They told him to drop the gun, he ignored, etc etc.

Really, the whole "innocently reading a book" argument is wearing kinda thin in light of the video, gun, holster, drugs.

What's hard to understand about the fact that they had no idea if he was a felon before approaching? They hadn't even asked his name that we know of. That's the nastiness of revealing criminal records after the fact, it somehow justifies actions taken before anyone could possibly have known about it.

No, but it helps us to understand the suspects behavior and reactions during the incident. People wanted to go with the initial narrative---kind, doting father waiting at the bus stop, reading a book---but this fills in the story in a different way.

Knowing he has a lengthy criminal history makes it more likely that he would be very concerned about being detained and questioned this time--aND makes it more likely that he thenresisted and was non-compliant.

It makes more sense why he would be so worried about being caught with some pot and a weapon too.

This was the school bus stop. He was driving a vehicle, sitting at a school bus stop, smoking a joint, while armed with a loaded weapon. Are you seriously making that ok? What about his son, who he was supposedly taking home?

I have seen some youtubes where LE talks for many many minutes to white guys holding scary looking weapons.

Same LE officers? Same criminal? If not then not a valid argument. Different people different situation. Can not look at one and try to compare.
