Defense will call no further witnesses.

I don't understand. She was trying to get away, but they were moving together and she was going to set up a daycare?

She was lying again. I just hope and pray the jury is catching all of this Otto. We are.

I don't see Amanda crumbling under questioning. I would like to see the prosecutor set her up in a clear contradiction.

I'm not too clear on it either, but Amanda had testified earlier that Grant's parents (Grant Sr. and Patsy) were going to give them their home and Patsy's daycare business in Kinston to accommodate the recommendations of the psychologist and the courts thus ending the costly trips back and forth.

How is her sister not in trouble, too?

Probably cuz she cooperated with the police and told them what they wanted to know.

Defense will call no further witnesses.

I thought I heard Gaskins say that, but I thought no way that could be the case!
Jury could actually be in deliberations by tomorrow???
If the stars aligned that is...

I would think that the jury is paying attention, but it's sometimes easy for people to hear what they want to hear. She was so afraid and she wanted her daughter to take Lilly and then she was going to go with Sha and Lilly. Next, they're moving into one of his parents homes. Were these days back to back?

During closing arguments it will be made crystal clear to the jury all of the inconsistencies in Amanda Hayes' testimony, just in case the jury did happen to miss some of the finer points. I'm sure they'll point out all the places that she lied.

I hope the jury saw all the signs of a manipulator, a liar and someone with enough backbone not to be meek and wait but cut the State attorney off time and time again anticipating the question. Those are signs of a self assured person. Even if the State can't break Amanda down they will have a field day with Amanda's version of what happened versus what did happen at closing arguments.

The jury will also hopefully see KB's sniffle testimony for what it is. She was way involved and did nothing till Det.'s knocked on her door. I hope she is embarrassed beyond belief. I hope people stare and point at her. Sister or not ,she should have been charged for aiding and abetting, JMO

this is how jail mail works between 2 jailbirds since you can't write institution to institution.

Another trick is to have the name & address of the inmate to whom you want it sent, in the area where you would normally put the sender's name & address (the return address). Then you put a fake name & address on the addressee area. That way, it will be returned-to-sender -- thus the letter gets to the inmate that way. It just takes a while. That was the method Allegra Dahlquist used to get a letter to another inmate -- both of them were in Wake Co. Jail and awaiting trial for murder.

There's always a way, I guess.

I'm not too clear on it either, but Amanda had testified earlier that Grant's parents (Grant Sr. and Patsy) were going to give them their home and Patsy's daycare business in Kinston to accommodate the recommendations of the psychologist and the courts thus ending the costly trips back and forth.

Her testimony is paradoxical in that early on she was talking about how afraid she was of Grant, she wanted to leave him, he drained her financially and emotionally, she even dialed 911 in TX (I don't believe it) yet at the same time she was making plans to move to Kinston with the very same man who threatened to kill her,,, and Shay,,, and throw baby Lily out of the truck window.
I hope before BH ends her cross she will trip her up over at least part of these inconsistencies. AH is good, she has lied her entire life to get what she wanted, basically from men. Think about all of the various men and relationships she has mentioned just today while on the stand. She has only mentioned 2 female friends that I counted.
She has been successful until now and I hope she quickly sees that that her luck has run out.

At one point Amanda slipped up and use the word "participate" and Becky caught it and repeated it back to her and got her to sort of admit to it. That use of the word "participated" is going to be something that is brought forth during closing arguments. If you have the defendant admitting they had participated up to a point then you've proved the "acting in concert" charge.

I remember that. It was about the brainstorming and what to do with the body--she said all three of them were participating. I'm glad Becky caught it too and hope she uses it right back at her during closing.
I am always, always worried about the juries. I know I'm not the only person who has ever heard the saying that 'intelligent people find a way out of serving jury duty'. I know it's not true but it still scares me.
I remember the time Judge Perry in Florida told the sheriff to go to the homeless shelter and start rounding people up for jury duty. That idea scares the tar out of me. I must learn to have faith.

Remember in the sister's testimony, she said that she spoke with Shay (spelling?) while AH was in Texas. Stuff about the hutch and AH not answering her phone or whatever. If the sister (according to this recent AH testimony) knew so much, doesn't that make you think that Shay does, too? Maybe it started as suspecting things, but after a few conversations with her aunt, her suspicions were confirmed. What do you think? I think it all has made Shay mad at her mom and I'm not sure what their current relationship is like. She didn't make any special efforts to stick around Raleigh and support her mom during her trial. At least, I don't see her there if she is. :phone:

Doesn't the state get a rebuttal case? Is it possible that they could recall KB to the stand?

  • #538
Today is the first day I have been able to watch the trial and I was going to ask you all this morning if Shay has been there each day. I didn't see her today although she may have been. The camera doesn't swing too far in any direction. But it does seem that today of all days she would attend since her mom was going to testify. Did Shay testify for the State? Seems the defense could call her as a witness on AH's behalf in some manner.

As far as I can tell Sha is no longer in town. Considering she barely looked at her mother while she was on the stand, I get the feeling things are not good between them.

Me too. As a mother, I cannot understand helping/financing some dude I met a mere 6 months ago over my own daughter. Why didn't she help Sha more? Or maybe she did and we just don't know. :shrugs:

After everything before and after, she gave him $50,000. I'm still reeling at the thought of it. I can just see GH's face & hear him laffing all the way to the bank. Good golly. And you're right, Surfie, what might Sha have done with it? Or perhaps, AH could have bought a plane ticket to anywhere & set up housekeeping without that (IMO) worthless, lying, murdering slug.
