I wrote copyrighted and what I meant was trademarked. In the professional graphic design community this comes up constantly. Literally, every day. Last I checked, US military logos are in fact trademark protected (as well as military phrases - over 500 different trademarks registered on phrases, logos and insignias) and users must have a legal license (not easy to get, either) or written permission (exceptionally rare) to use them. DOD Trademark Licensing GuideMilitary logos are not copyrighted. US Government materials are in the public domain
It's something I deal with all the time in my line of work and that's why it immediately stood out to me. I would be completely shocked to learn this man has all the legal paperwork in order to use any of these logos in a commercial venture.
