This is from the stepfather's family? So they clearly have some kind of relationship with her.
This is what CPD say:

Cornelius Police Department

We want to share a personal, handwritten message with you from Madalina's extended family. Please read it and put yourself in their shoes. They ask for your positive thoughts, continued support, and for information to help #FindMadalina. Call the Cornelius Police Department at 704-892-7773 or 1-800-Call- FBI.

ETA: So, I'm not sure what side of the family it's from.

Hmmm....
Not leaves and brush, then ?
The neighbors saw furniture items ?
What the heck happened at that house ?
Imo.

From the above article:
A neighbor who saw investigators searching the home earlier this week told DailyMail.com that they spent hours outside.

'They took all kinds of samples from the fire pit area,' he said. 'I guess they were trying to figure out if they burned anything of substance there.

'It's a gross feeling to know something like this happened in your neighborhood,' he added.
Which tells me LE took time to investigate the fire pit.

“Only burn these items

  • Leaves
  • Limbs
  • Brush
  • Firewood
  • Natural vegetation from your own yard
  • Logs, stumps, limbs and other natural vegetation as part of land clearing”
They should have been fined for burning furniture, couch cushions, etc. Probably synthetic material.

“ It is ALWAYS illegal to burn trash, construction materials or anything man-made and non-vegetative.”

It was odd, so they did report it. Did they dump everything left after fire into the lake? Hard to believe it was just a couch that burned for days...
Oh no I know the neighbors thought it odd I meant like the fire dept. I feel like it’s something that LE should have looked into in the beginning. Like a ticket issued or something. Maybe there was and we just haven’t seen that yet?

From the link:

Neighbors recall seeing flames and smoke billowing from the yard of the Victoria Bay Drive home in late November, prompting calls to police and the fire department in Cornelius, North Carolina.

Reached by DailyMail.com late Wednesday, Cornelius Fire Chief Guerry Barbee acknowledged the blaze but refused to discuss specifics.

It wasn't until December 15, two weeks after the fire, that the girl's mother, Diana Cojocari, reported her daughter missing.

Police later searched the property for evidence, joined by FBI agents scouring the yard for debris.

Pretty damning for both parents.

Yes, burning items at that time is super worrisome. That's very suspicious behavior IMO. You child is missing and you're burning a couch? In your yard? And the fire burns for days? The lake area was searched, but have there been search parties set up in other areas? If not, I think LE may have an idea what happened, but they're still reaching out to see if anyone may have witnessed something else that may help.

I don’t know how much TOS will allow me to share/post (Mods - please snip if needed); however, this is a public Facebook post by a member of CP’s family confirming that the letter is written by the P family.

So if I'm understanding this correctly, the second letter above from "Madalina's extended family" was released by the CPD and the first one above was posted on the Facebook page of a member of the Palmiter family?

From the link:
(had to do it this way because the link wouldn't appear when quoted)

"On December 14, Cojocari called the school counselor and told her that she would bring Madalina into school the next day."
Looks like someone's pants were on fire too.

If you do some digging, you can find some extended family of the stepfather on FB. One of them posted something very interesting and IMO, it doesn't sound like they are defending CP...at all. Quite the opposite. MOO

Edit - I can actually find about 10 members of the extended family that posted the missing person flyer. Multiple of them have the same interesting reference.

I’ve seen so many people refer to the picture of stockings, but I’ve not found it anywhere. Can someone link it for me? Thank you.

She may be the best thing in their relationship with him.

Media report on handwritten note shared by law enforcement:

So it remains unclear which side of M's family wrote the message, IMO. I have found two of stepdad's family posting publicly on FB about M's disappearance, pleading for her return. One has even changed their profile pic to M's missing poster.
I shared up the thread a little bit a screenshot of a public Facebook post (I did not include the poster’s name or a link to the actual post because I didn’t want to violate TOS), however it does confirm that the letter was written by CP’s family.

The member of the Palmiter family shared CPD’s post and, in their post, stated that it was written by the Palmiter family.

I'm unfortunately not hopeful that this is the situation but given what I've read that's been released so far, it still seems at least possible M ran away and doesn't trust anyone enough to reach out for help.

But can you imagine any parent not calling police within a day, if an 11-year-old child "ran away?" You might go into denial for some hours, check with their friends, look around the neighborhood where they might be hanging out, but any parent would know how vulnerable their 11-year-old is and would call police by night-time when it became clear the child wasn't coming home.

I know people who give 11-year-olds a lot of freedom to hang out with friends during the day, but they know which friends, and there are none who wouldn't be calling police if they couldn't find them by nightfall.

From link above.

Across the globe, investigative journalist Iosefina Pascal is researching this case from Romania. She says Madalina’s case is getting some news coverage there, but not a lot. Pascal says Diana Cojocari’s family are very well-known and well-connected musicians in Moldova. Pascal says, “Her family is traditional, Christian-orthodox values, you can tell from their imagery.” Pascal wonders why Diana’s siblings and mother haven’t said anything about the case, and she wants to know what Diana talked about with her family when she told investigators she called them to tell them Madalina was missing. Pascal says, “Her family has the knowledge, the power, the connections, to really get involved in this.”
