GUILTY NC - Mariah Woods, 3, Onslow County, 27 Nov 2017 #10 *Arrest*

Wow -- thanks for the info, @imstilla.grandma!!
No surprise about the delay, really, but it's very helpful to hear some real info. So Kimrey is still bunking in the Onslow County jailhouse, I assume. I'm sure he is one popular fellow with the other guys...
Again, thanks for the update!
What he did to that poor little girl! I can only hope his bunk mates show him jail justice!

Onslow County District Attorney Ernie Lee said in an email to The Daily News that due to COVID-19 issues, the trial is being rescheduled.

The Daily News has reached out to Lee along with Onslow County Superior Court Judge Charles Henry for clarification as to when the trial could be rescheduled. Originally, the trial was scheduled for Feb. 22, The Daily News previously reported.

Judge Henry's office explained there is not a set date and they are waiting for "things to clear up." They are hoping to start jury trials back up on March 1.

The DA's office has dealt with COVID-19 restrictions for just shy of a year. In June, the DA's office became backed up with trial cases but was able to make significant progress in moving non-jury trial cases either with plea deals or scheduling special sessions to alleviate the backlog.

In January, Chief District Court Judge Sarah Seaton announced all district court hearings in Onslow, Duplin, Jones and Sampson were postponed until Feb. 26.

When the DA announced the trial date in 2019, Lee added Onslow only has one superior court judge and adding another would help alleviate the backlog of thousands of cases and more than a dozen murder cases. Lee's office handles cases in Duplin, Jones, Onslow and Sampson counties as well as coordinating cases with other counties.
Mariah Woods trial set for Feb, postponed to later date
Hopefully this gives them time to build a case against someone else involved. In charge of Mariah's life. MOO

Yes. I’m so glad you remember her short little life and those who were supposed to protect and love her. Instead of allowing this man access to her as if to offer her as a gift.

I have a hard time erasing the word “bleach” from my mind when I think of her. Sadistic evil monster! Omg, it makes me so mad. And sad....
This one really gets to me. I cried and cried when it happened.

Onslow County District Attorney Ernie Lee said the trial, originally scheduled to begin last fall and then rescheduled for February 22, is being postponed again. A new date has not been determined.

"The job of our office is to seek justice," he told NewsChannel 12. "And this case will get done. It will get done. This community deserves that, the victim's family deserves that, and the public deserves that."

Lee says he and other court officials are working very hard to set a court date.

It was announced in January that all district court hearings in Onslow, Duplin, Jones and Sampson Counties were postponed until February 26.

As of right now, Lee says the trial is scheduled to be in Onslow County, but he adds that the defendant has filed a motion to move it elsewhere, which is still pending. He says the trial will likely take six to eight weeks.

Angela Wiles organized a vigil for Mariah Woods, where thousands stopped by to pay tribute to the 3-year-old's life. She said she's upset to hear that the trial has been postponed. While she understands the decision came due to COVID-19 restrictions, she said three years is too long to wait for justice.

"She didn't get an opportunity to postpone her death," Wiles said. "She became a daughter of a nation. So, many parents see their own children in Mariah."

Wiles was one of the hundreds who rallied around searching for Woods, and then after her body was found, Wiles dedicated time to pay tribute to her life. Wiles says she is planning a vigil to honor Mariah on the day the trial is set.

Kimrey is charged with:

  • First-degree murder
  • Felony child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury
  • Felony concealment of death
  • Felony common law obstruction of justice
  • Second-degree burglary
  • Felony larceny
  • Felony possession of stolen property
The prosecution will seek the death penalty.

Bolded by all of us!

Trial date for man accused of killing Mariah Woods, 3, in 2017 again postponed

What a nasty demonic animal disguised as a human:

I feel sick to the stomach when I see his face. I cannot put in print what I'd like to do to him.

As a mum I feel all babies/children are very precious,I can say no more for now.

from my notes:

2/12/21 Update: Onslow County District Attorney Ernie Lee said the trial, originally scheduled to begin last fall & then rescheduled for February 22, is being postponed again. A new date has not been determined. Lee says he & other court officials are working very hard to set a court date. So - it probably won't be for awhile... I'll make a notation in my notes to "tag" you when there is a trial date, ok?

Thank you. I truly hope if the trial is moved, it will be moved to New Hanover. I live in New Hanover and it's about 60 miles from Jacksonville.

While I can't wait for this evil human to go to trial I feel justice will never served for this sweet girl until the person who was supposed to protect and love her is arrested.

She's probably too busy sitting at home still not working and still not providing even half decent care of her household while having the wife of the Pastor at her local church run all her errands and do her other basic adulting things for her....you know, just like old times.;)

I havent followed this case for a while, but when did the facial injuries come to light?

Yes, because she is obviously an example of good Christian mothers.

Hopefully she's not home producing more children.

I believe it was when the autopsy report was released. Here is an article from July 2018 that mentions it.....
Mariah Woods autopsy released: Body was found with cement in bag
Woods' body was enclosed in a plaid, zippered couch cushion cover with solid cement inside of it. The body was wrapped in trash bags which were tied around her neck. Other details emerged, such as a lack of physical evidence to suggest the toddler had been sexually assaulted. The examination did reveal Woods had bruises and abrasions on her face.

Nothing on the court dockets for Kimrey, as of today.
I did a check on "All Counties" in NC and nothing came up.
So we wait...
