A missing Lincoln County woman’s vehicle was found Wednesday at Johnny’s Mexican American Bar and Grill on West Highway 150. Security footage from the restaurant shows Cook leave her vehicle early Wednesday morning and walk towards the highway.

Family members said they have not heard from Mary Walters Cook, 56, of Hamlet Street, Lincolnton, since Monday.

- A man, who identified himself as a missing Lincoln County woman's husband, said he received a text message from her that read, "SOS!" – a plea for help. It was after midnight, he said he received the text from Cook but didn't see it until the morning.

Also- Goodson said there has been no activity on any of Cook's credit cards or bank account since Monday.

The body of a missing Lincoln County woman was found Thursday night and someone is in custody, officials said.

Her body was found in a river off Boy Scout Road.

*She leaves at 5pm to go out. He got an SOS after midnight but didn’t see it until the morning. What the heck?

*Two days later a report was filed? After that SOS text and she wasn’t home by that morning?

The Lincoln County Police to Citizen website does show the arrest this morning (September 27) of 60-year-old Steve Allen Avery on a charge of first-degree murder.

Man charged with murder in missing woman case

“Mary Walters Cook, 59, of Hamlet Street, Lincolnton, had been killed then tossed off a bridge on Boy Scout Road in western Lincoln County.

Investigators with the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant Thursday night at the home of Steve Allen Avery who lives at 2242 Drive Inn Road, Lincolnton. During the search blood stains were found in the home, according to a press release from the Sheriff's Office. Avery allegedly confessed to shooting Cook with a .22-caliber rifle. He reportedly told detectives that he took her body to the area where she was found. He then allegedly drove the truck back to Johnny's Mexican Restaurant on N.C. 150 and parked it behind the business.”

Channel 9 saw investigators removing bags of evidence from Avery's home along with several firearms, but they backed out of the home after finding a pipe bomb. A robot could be seen moving it safely away from the home.
