GUILTY NC - Melissa Huggins-Jones, 30, murdered in her Raleigh home, 14 May 2013

Ouch -- Shekita got this witness -- TS's math teacher in middle school at the Longview School. The teacher was very complementary of TS, and then Shekita asked him if he was aware of a pretty long list of suspensions from that school -- one- or two-day suspensions for fighting or pushing. The teacher did not remember these events at all.

I totally agree! It's like... Travion may have seemed great to you, but did you know about these 54984651 things that happened during the time period you knew him?

Defense calls Sharrod Holloway - worked for Easter Seals; worked with Travion for a bit.

  • #763
Defense calls Dr. Anne-Marie Evans. Served as school psychologist at Longview school.

Will this string of witnesses ever end? This testimony may just do the job, however. And LWOP is fine with me.

  • #765
No more defense witnesses. Whew.

  • #766
So he is easily led, impulsive and sorry afterwards? That won't bring the victim back will it :(

I think the jury will take into account the abuse he suffered as a child (and he certainly was in a horrible parental environment when he was with his father) and not sentence him to death.

I'm okay with whatever. The end result is the same--life in prison, no parole, society is safe from him. The state hasn't executed anyone in years and the chances of T.S. getting executed are very slim even if the jury does impose that sentence. He was 20 when he committed the murder, he'll never see the light of freedom again. That's about as serious as it gets. His only way out will be in a body bag.

Anybody know what we're waiting for in the courtroom?

  • #771
I just got home from work & came right here to inquire... I imagine they will excuse the jury for the day and the defense and & state will discuss whether to have closing arguments tomorrow or wait until Monday.

I just can't figure out what's happening in the courtroom. I'm seeing the family and the defense, but there's no sound... only static. Not sure what we're waiting for.

There's nothing on Twitter about it. Don't know, but it's now 4:58pm so they'll be dismissing court soon.

Per judge:

Friday: starts at 9:30 (goes until 1:00 at the latest; may be shorter day than that); recess after evidence completed
Monday: should be ready for closing arguments, jury instructions, then jury deliberations.

Verrrrry interesting little thing having to do with TS's incarceration after his arrest for the murder of Melissa...

When I looked at his record with the NC Dept. of Public Safety, I looked down through his offenses (since in court I learned that he was on probation when his father kicked him out of the house) to see what the offense was. Then I saw the dates of his incarceration with the NC-DPS. Usually, arrestees of Wake County are housed in the Wake County Jail, but not TS -- On May 22, 2013, he was incarcerated in the NC Prison system for "Post Release Sentence." He was released from there on 12/16/13.

Then, when I look at the current jail population in the Wake Co. Jail, I see where his entry date there was 12/16/13.

Think about it -- it may take a minute or so...

Here is what got my attention -- I just copied the part that stymied me -- the link for his record with the NC-DPS is below it.

see: Sentence BA-002 on his record.

----------------------------------------- Partial Record ----------------------------------------------------------

Conviction Date:05/22/2013..............................................Sentence Begin Date:05/22/2013
.........................................................................................Actual Release Date:12/16/2013

----------------------------------------- Partial Record ----------------------------------------------------------

Hmmmmmm. I guess NC-DPS wanted him to serve his time for a previous crime before he was tried for something else. Indeed.

To access the Wake Co. Jail Inmate list:

http://p2c.wakeso.net/jailinmates.aspx

When you get there, simply put "Smith" in the FILTER INMATE area, and select ALL (since we are dealing with a Smith). Notice his "Arrest Date."

Interesting, IMO.

I think the jurors are still looking at the document they were given by the defense before the pm break -- it looked pretty thick to me...

I don't think there's a chance of Travion getting the DP. I'm very surprised they went for it. It's just a waste of resources IMO. First, for this phase of the case, and then second, for all the appeals, etc. if it should come to pass (not that NC ever actually executes anyone anyway). It's just a waste.

I can't stand that all these resources and programs were offered to Travion, but his father refused to let him participate. No one cared about him. No one does now, either, except for those interested in this trial. Dammit, if you can't or won't care for a child, don't have one (or two, three or four as his mama did). Sadly, this is so common. It makes me sick.

I don't feel one bit sorry for him. He felt he was entitled to just take a young mother's life sleeping in her own home, and he refuses to take responsibility.

I don't get your point. He had a parole violation and was thus returned to prison. Doesn't that explain it? Then the moved him to jail. Is there more you're inferring?
