GUILTY NC - Reginald Daye, 46, fatally stabbed, Durham, 3 April 2011

Shoot, missed the verdict but saw the sentencing, I'm not displeased, murder 1 shouldn't have been charged I don't think, not even sure of the larceny but there was no doubt about what she did do to him.

I think there was premeditation if she used one knife and it broke and she went back to get another but if only one knife was used in the assault then I think the State did get the best they could with second degree.

I thought the added charges for the checks was throwing everything the State could at the defendent.

Ps This State doesn't fool around with sentencing several months down the line. I like it.

What is CTV and IS?

I am really pleased with wral's coverage and streaming, very nice set up.

I heard 170 - 220ish, which is ~14 to 18 years. If she has been in jail, they may deduct that? Don't know. Bottom line, she'll be out while still relatively young. Hope she rehabilitates, but I don't think she's "right in the head." I think she and trouble walk hand in hand.

I like it too. I wonder though if the impact statement or the mitigating statement had any impact or if the Judge had his mind made up.

CTV = CourtTV (they used to have a message board, very active, back when the station still existed) Became TruTV

IS = InSession Message Boards became IS after CTV went under. (InSession runs briefly now on some tv station) and was part of CNN, don't know if they still are)

Anyone know about eligibility of parole?

I'm glad with 2nd degree. Thought for awhile they might go with manslaughter.

Oh, yes, thanks, I miss Court TV and In Session, HLN is just horrid to try to watch any trial on, that's how I found live feeds and this place, trying to get away from the manic, commercial filled HLN baloney, and how lucky I was to find you all here. :)

Well I DO like to paint....but better finish mine before tackling yours....LOL. Lucky you, a full remodel. My house is only six years old but I like to keep things fresh and I'll turn 70 in another year or so. So this may be the last chance I can do this chore myself.

Bravo! to you, Chelly!!!

Yes, sentencing is immediate. The judge does give people the right to speak about how long & why a sentence should be max or min, or words to that affect. Then the judge uses a Sentencing Guide based on prior felony points and whether he/she judges the crime(s) to be "aggravated"(highest range of time of sentence), "mitigated" (lower range), or "presumptive" (mid-range)

I plan to watch in January, 2014 -- as far as we know, this should be live-streamed on WRAL -- the Amanda Hayes trial for the murder of Laura Ackerson. Amanda's husband, Grant Hayes, has already been tried & sentenced to LWOP for his part in Laura's murder -- death & dismemberment, etc., etc.

Here's lots & lots of info on it...

Amanda Hayes to go on trial for murder of Laura Ackerson - Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community

Sure hope you'll join us, CUCKOOHEAD!! It wouldn't be the same without you and your serious-minded-all-the-time bedside manner. Gotta have it!!
