Body found in backyard of Robeson County home :: WRAL.com

"Homicide investigators, crime scene investigators and cold case investigators found a body that had been buried in a backyard in the 300 block of Lewis McNeil Road in Red Springs. They discovered the remains around 12:30 p.m.
(snip)
It's not known how long the body had been buried. The remains will be sent to the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office to identity the body and determine the cause of death."

There's a number of MP cases near there but I can't really speculate about them until more details are released. This article says a cold case investigator was involved.

This should not be confused with a second body found in a yard in Red Springs the day before. That one was quickly identified. This is a pretty incredible coincidence since Red Springs' population is only a few thousand.

No one came to the door Tuesday at the home where the body was found.

However, Robeson County Sheriff Burnis Wilkins told The Robesonian the owners of the home were “not related to this at all.”

Since this is described as a "months long" investigation, I'm hopeful someone's family will soon find answers and maybe even see justice in their loved one's disappearance.

It sort of speaks to the community's level of fear, however, that out of three people the Robesonian reporter spoke with about this, none were willing to give their names.

Body buried in North Carolina yard identified as man who vanished in 2016, cops say

A body found buried behind a North Carolina home has been identified as a man who vanished in 2016, officials said.

Billy Gene Hammonds was 36 years old when his sister said she last talked to him on the phone. He was reported missing about a week later on Dec. 9, 2016.

Now, more than five years after Hammond disappeared, an interview led deputies to his remains in a backyard, according to the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.

Is the Billy above the 2nd body found or the 1st? If 2nd then disregard but Sara Graham has been missing from Lumberton since 2015.
