A year after Shaniya's death, her mother and McNeill have yet to be indicted.

Antoniette Davis remains out of jail on $51,000 bail.

Davis was pregnant when she was arrested. She has since given birth, and the child has been put in foster care, a source close to the family said.

McNeill is being held at Central Prison in Raleigh for safekeeping until his trial. No date has been set.

Thank you so much for that article!!! WHEW!!!!!! Thank God we now know the infant is safe and not in AD's hands!! I was so worried about that!!

Interesting and passionate comments...people really do give a damn about that beautiful little girl! No matter the differing opinions, people REMEMBER!!!! I am so happy to see that!

I will keep my opinion about DSS to myself...no need for negativity right now!!

I know Shaniya is on all of our minds with the anniversary a week away. Let's try to remember this beautiful child, and give her the respect she deserves.
Political season over here now, although I will continue to beg for a playground.

And perhaps we could end the political season on WS's as well when it comes to Shaniya.

Yes Oriah, I think it was the 16th she was found, so that would be her official date of death. She was taken on the 10th and I'm sure killed and dumped on the 10th.

God, why did this have to happen????

Such a beautiful little girl gone far too soon. The pure evil in this world scares me.

What a community. Are there any local advocacy groups or anything that will keep this story alive? Even a related issue - drugs, prostitution, child abuse much less crime and punishment.

Folks, I've been trying to think of a good way to honor Shaniya on the anniversary of the day she was found (the 16th of Nov.) The playground is coming, but soooo slooooowwwwly. Any thoughts for what we can do as locals next Tuesday?

I wonder about that all the time

But I am afraid that the local government doe not like the bad press so it is continuously under the radar.
Last think they were investigation for many months was Child services while that is also important is is also a distraction from some more pressing issues IMO. Like why is AD walking around? where is the new baby (potential victim). Why has not AD been charged with more serious charges? Why do they keep on postponing? knowing fully well that the odds of a case that is delayed and delayed loses a lot. And often times the case gets no real justice.
YES I still have a lot of questions and these are only a few of them.

suggestion: Go to the local Church and light some candles in her name.
Make a prayer to set her spirit free, and may she go higher and higher and get closer and closer to the light.
She is probably there already. but that is what I will do at at home in NYC.

Thank you Kimberly, WOW a few days ago I started to read that article and Said to myself I already know all of this and it hurt too much so I stopped reading it.
today I read the entire thing.....Then on the bottom was the news about the baby being safe. I am glad you read it all through or I would have never known this. I cried all over again reading this article.
But I am glad one less child is in harms way.
Last Month I walked at the Human Trafficking Awareness WALK in NYC for you little Shaniya. Absolutely for you and to raise awareness about this heart wrenching crime.

Yes she did, apparently... Zahra has been found. Sweet angels...at least they are together.

Memorial service planned for slain 5-year-old Shaniya Davis

A memorial service to mark a year since Shaniya Davis' death is scheduled Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
The service will be held in the Freedom International Ministries parking lot off Murchison Road.
