Wudge, you forgot that Americans like a good show. The media is not rushing to scrutinize this case because it's a ratings booster, especially during the May sweeps season.

America has become so fixated on living vicariously on the tragedies of others.

Wudge, I don't know where you get your news, but its all over the radio programs that I listen to and even some television programs. The conservatives are talking about very little else. I couldn't tell you what the libs talk about becuase I like to keep my food down.

Would a public lynching of a crooked prosecutor not be of comparable crimetainment value to the public lynching that Duke players received at the outset of this case?

Other than the tabloid called "Fox News", which, though I am very conservative, I only watch very, very selectively, the rest of media is basically liberal.

The media and LE and D.A's offices have long had an unholy alliance. Fundamentally, as long as case information is leaked to them, the media will turn a deaf ear to corruption by LE and prosecutors.

Proabbly not as exciting as a played out trial :)

I don't want to speak too soon, but if it's found out that these boys are innocent, I expect the following:

An apology from the prosecutor for persuing a dead-end case.

An apology from public interest groups, literally standing on the sidewalk in front of the lacrosse house chastizing these young men even before all of the facts were reported.

An apology from the people who actually taped, stapled, nailed signs to the house calling these players/students names.

....

But it won't happen unless this accuser admits they made up the entire thing. They may be exhonerated in the eyes of the law, but not in the eyes of the public. And that's sad.

Here's what I "believe". Based on all that we now know, if this had been three young black men who were indicted for gang raping a white woman, the black community would now be in full scale riot mode, and few would be blaming them.

Add to that an apology from Duke for suspending them, forcing the lacrosse coach out, and ending their season. I doubt any of that would have happened if the players were accused only of underage drinking.

Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh talk about the case on their radio programs.

I agree with your second paragraph.

Color me anything but a talk-show radio listener. I have never listened to either of their radio shows, but both of them usually do well selling their views, most of which I generally agree with, to their followers.

Though at the start of this case, Rush called the alleged victim a Ho', which fueled the race fires. That was definitely not puzzle bright.

In all honesty, I am surprised that you agree with my statement. (salute) The old regime at websleuths certainly would not have agreed. Of course, with them, my views were always in the deep minority.

That much has not really changed.

On the Catherine Crier show today, CC and her guests were quite critical of Nifong. Trent Copeland, a defense attorney, remarked that a prosecutor should listen if a suspect wants to talk to him. Copeland also said that the evidence isn't there at the moment. Dan Abrams said that again today, declaring that he gives an objective view of what he covers.

Speaking of lie detector tests, Robert Shapiro gave one to O.J. Simpson, right after he took Simpson as a client. Simpson scored -22, he failed every question about the murders. David Westerfield took a polygraph when he became a suspect in the Van Damm murder. Westerfield failed it. Mr. Evans passed a polygraph administered by a specialist. What does that tell you?

"The indictment came following a hallway confrontation today at the Durham County courthouse, in which District Attorney Mike Nifong laced into defense lawyer Kerry Sutton in an expletive-laden tirade where he complained angrily about last Friday's defense team news conference."

This case will be dismissed or when in Trial Not Guilty.FAter hearing Evans yesterday none of this makes sense. The DA refusing to talk to him? The DNa is from a phoney fingernail thatEvans gave the police. The charges were brought up only so the DA could be re-elected.

You must have missed it, but Nifong set the trial date for the spring of 2007.

I suspect few people know that the state of North Carolina does not mandate a speedy trial. Of course, that little nicety was meant to provide D.A.'s with an extravagent amount of time to prepare their case.

also from above artricle :

"It's not necessarily true that no DNA means no crime," Meehan said. Lawyers and DNA experts told ABC News that there needs to be additional evidence.

Although much of the possible evidence made public to date may favor the defense, the strength of key elements for the prosecution remains unknown. Details of the alleged victim's medical report and of a toxicology report from that night could be crucial. The prosecution could also have witnesses, photographs or videos of that night that might bolster its case.

I'm not castrating Nifong YET! Maybe Later!

Right now I have too many questions which have to be answered. Actually I don't trust any of them, from the 'boys' to the 'accuser'.

Did one of the party guys have a conscience and talk? If this rape really occurred?

If any of you witnessed such a said attack as described by the accuser, would you remain closed mouthed holding to a 'code of silence' for your friends? If one did and the truth later came out that the attack/rape was true and you stood by and said nothing, what and how would that portray your character? (not sure I am expressing myself in what I am actually trying to say here)

Oh sadly I don't think there will be any apologies forthcoming from the DA, the accuser, Jesse Jackson or the NAACP.

There will be excuses made and the AV will be made out to be a victim anyway. Not of rape but poverty, racism, sexism blah blah blah blah. That will excuse her behavior and her lies. There will NEVER be apologies from any of them. Apologies don't come from that side of the aisle. And there won't be any resignations either. Not from that side of the aisle.

How does the blue wall of silence portray the character of LE?

If you won't police your own, you sure should not be policing others.

Welll I think we can agree on some things and agree to disagree on others! Makes for good banter!!!

Tells me he's probably telling the truth, especially since he was supposed to have had a mustache during the so-called assault and has NEVER had one.

The sharks smell blood in the water.

"A man stands in the background of the Duke Lacrosse 'rape' case…watching. While the alleged rape of a black woman by three wealthy, white male students remains in criminal court, he is not likely to step forward.
He specializes in civil cases, and a 'victim' who seeks monetary damages in civil court usually waits for criminal proceedings to conclude.

Even at this early stage, however, the accuser's mother is "very much interested" in "getting [him] involved."
