WOW that's not normal..... usually parents are NOT on the scene of the search expecially if its a case where a child is pressummed dead.

Unless they are brought along to help point LE to something.

CONCORD, N.C. -- As police search for a missing 10-year-old Hickory girl, a local charity which helped her just months ago hopes their experience will help find her.Channel 9 spent time with Speedway Children's Charities which got to know Zahra Baker back in May. Zahra was one of 75 people in our area to receive free hearing aids. The organization showed Channel 9 a book which featured several photos of Zahra even one with the Richard Petty.Speedway Children’s Charity spokeswoman Saundy Hutto told Channel 9 Zahra's disappearance is hitting them hard. “(She) is an absolutely great personality. The type of kid you really enjoy meeting and get to be a part of their life for that special day,” Hutto said. Zahra was reported missing from her home in Hickory on Saturday. Her stepmother, Elisa Baker, admitted Monday to writing the ransom note that was found at the scene.Zahra was reported missing from her home in Hickory on Saturday. Her stepmother, Elisa Baker, admitted Monday to writing the ransom note that was found at the scene, according to Hickory police.Hutto remembers that Zahra was making fun of her prosthetic leg. “When we were talking about her leg and she said an 'alligator ate it.' So, real creative," Hutto said."From just that day that we had with her and the things that she would say she seemed like a really smart little girl," she said."Last night, as I said, I couldn't sleep, couldn't eat just thinking, you know, did we miss something? Is she out there? Is she hungry? Is she crying?" Hotto said."It's just really sad. Sad and scary and it's depressing (that) something like this could happen to a sweet little girl," she said.A candlelight vigil will be held for Zahra Baker on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. on the playground at East Hickory Baptist Church. This service is open to everyone. The church is located at 130 16th St. SE, Hickory, NC 28602. You may call the church office at 828-328-9507 for more information.

Elisa Baker's bond at $75,000.

Alot of interest in brush pile on Hartland Road. Will be searching within 30 minutes.

Sorry if I missed it, but what brought searchers to this place?

If they put that baby through a woodchipper, it gives new meaning to the word EVIL.
How could ANYBODY do that???

I'm at a loss for words and that rarely happens.

Zahra!!! I'm so sorry love.

I disagree....
I work with those who have substance abuse issues. Many who are craving a fix would A) Tell what was wanted, whether or not it be true B) Run like hell for fear of being arrested.

I really wish our LEOs were allowed to offer drugs to drug addicts in exchange for the addicts providing verifiable information about a case. Would speed up lots of investigations and save taxpayers bazillions in investigative costs, and probably even save some innocent lives. Your average meth or heroine or cocaine or even alcohol addict who's overdue for their next hit doesn't care about *anything* except getting it. They'd sing like canaries if they knew police could really give them even one dose of what they want, for giving real answers.

I saw an interview withthe dad and he seems genuinely heartbroken. I've seen many many interviews where the missing persons parents/spouse are interviewed but its obvious they are crocodile tears (Susan Smith, Powell, Hacking, Peterson, Kyron's stepmother, etc). He also seemed very angry/upset at his wife (Zahra's stepmom). His statement was he left early in the morning (prior to 7 am) to check on a new job he had lined up, returned home around 2 and his wife came running out of the house 'screaming and crying' that Zahra was missing. He stated he checked the house, checked outside, spoke to a neighbor and then called the police.

Does anyone know if he was home when the fire was reported?

Isn't there a younger brother also? A 9 year old?

It was absolutely heartbreaking to watch police chief Tom Adkins cancel the Amber Alert and announce a homicide investigation.

The GMA interview? I don't know. It all seemed contrived to me. He seemed a bit shifty eyed and his crying only began when asked about his wife being taken away.
This guy said he did not check on Zahra after the fire broke out. That's incredible. The first thing any parent would do is check on their kids, especially if they were "panicked" as he said he was. I find it interesting that he said he was "panicking" because all the firemen were there, or whatever. I think he was panicking because they were burning evidence of the death of his daughter and did not want to be caught. He did not check on her because he knew she was not there. He's not off the hook for me at all. This guy fully knows what happened to his kid, IMO. His wife likely beat her to death as he sat in another room or something, placidly ignoring the savage attack on his helpless, long-suffering child. Then they finally decided they'd have to report her missing. I think this baby has been gone for awhile.

Ooh this case enrages me! Although I basically don't believe in the death penalty as a government institution, I do believe some people deserve not to live. I don't like mob violence or public spectacles of vengeance. It goes against everything a modern, civilized society stands for.
But when you hear about a story like this - a little child, so alone in her pain, such a survivor, who already went through so much, and still so vulnerable - being harassed, abused and beaten, likely killed by the one mother she probably could ever remember, oh, poor, poor thing. Can you imagine her hopefulness as she learned she was to have a new mommy? A new life with a whole family in the states? And then reality. It breaks my heart in two. It makes me so understand those who just want to parade these monsters through town to their death in the town square. I'm glad we don't have a society like that but boy oh boy, I really understand the feeling behind it right about now. I just can't imagine what justice would really look like in such a case as this. How can anyone pay adequately for what was likely done to such a sweet, darling child as Zahra?

Police are searching a wooded area dozens of miles from where the missing 10-year-old Zahra Baker was last seen.
The scene is down a dead end dirt drive off of the Hartland Road north of Morganton where police spent more than seven hours looking for clues around a wood chipper and in mulch piles.
Alvin Zero Webb lives near the area where authorities are searching and told Channel 9 that deputies visited his home on Monday. "I'm worried. I'm worried if she's ok or not," he said.
Law enforcement sources tell channel 9 Zahra's father, Adam Baker, worked in the tree trimming business and had access to the equipment on the property.
Deputies say cadaver dogs hit on the equipment and the mulch leading to the intensive search Monday.
"They were looking for blood," Webb said.
