This is just a horrific case in every way!!! An abused little disabled girl who has suffered so much. Hearing her cute little accent when she spoke and her obvious sense of humor evidenced by her comment of an alligator biting off her leg. The stories about the SM and her pathological lies so much worse than even Casey Anthony. Then a LE force determined to find out what happened to this child. Not only bizarre, heart wrenching and sickening in every way. I've followed a lot of cases here and this is certainly one of the worst.

I'm a lurker for the most part on WS! However, I am on here everyday reading so much of what all of you write. You are all a great bunch of people! I have been on this afternoon reading about Zahra and praying that she is found. I was also on SM's myspace and someone that posted to her said something about getting together to smoke. I seem to doubt that it was cigarettes. From SM's change in weight and appearance, drugs are most likely being done. The other thing that I'm wondering about is the searches are being conducted at where AB works. If the SM committed this crime alone I doubt that she would drive an hour away to dispose of a body. After watching the police with AB, the police may know that they are both involved in the disappearance of Zahra!!! My prayers and thoughts are with this beautiful child!

IIRC meth is suppose to smell like cat urine..............

Ok Friends....it's off to the ballgame. grumblegrumblegrumble. Back in a bit.

That might explain a lot of her anger issues. I know when people are 'coming down' from drugs (some, not all), they get incredibly short-tempered and angry.

As someone else said, if this is true about her selling and using, this could explain quite a bit.

Including keeping Zahra locked in her room constantly.

You know, just thinking....

If they're going to pump that water out in an hour, they're not even planning to screen or filter.

So whatever they're looking for must be 1) large and 2) heavy enough to sink to bottom.

Otherwise, if they were looking for anything that might be floating in the water, they'd definitely filter.

Makes me think that they think that--pardon the imagery--larger body parts, her whole body, or the prosthetic leg may be in there. Or maybe a combination of all.

the hose on our pumps we use in our hydro mulcher business have screens so limbs etc don't get sucked up. Don't know much about this set up but the fire dept uses the same kind of equipment we do.

I'm totally ignorant about meth. If it's cooked up in a home, does the toxic stench disappear between batches or does it keep building up and getting stronger?

I have a lot of cop friends and one of them who runs the DIRT (cant remember what the acronym stands for but they are the drug squad who bust meth labs etc.

Anyway, he told me the stench litereally gets into everything. Like, this is not something that just airs out between batches.

I agree with the previous poster tho, if they'd been manufacturing in the family home, LE would have caught on immediately and the hazmat guys woulda been there pronto.

ETA more likely - SM was a runner (delivers drugs, buys the cold medicine stuff neede to make the stuff, etc. Those people go from walgreens to CVS alll over town buying two or three packets at a store, filling their trunks til they have enough, then trade the supplies for the drugs)

Yes it does. Now alot are using hotel rooms - and once they find out a hotel room was a lab - the hazmat teams have to completely decontaminate the room, sometimes even removing and replacing the dry wall.

As for her/them cooking - we have heard NOT WORD ONE about what LE has found in the home. She could have been cooking outside, or somewhere else. I'm not saying she was - but it is certainly a big possibility. Meth causes certain physical characteristics and they get worse (see one Lisa Croslin) and I can see where those characteristics were starting to show on this sub-human. I really don't believe that she was "doing pills" - she might have been selling pills - but I bet her drug of choice was meth. It is certainly the cheaper of the two.

Do people actually buy meth? It's so easy to make that I figured people just make their own. Just speculating, I don't really know.

And whoever said western NC has a big meth problem, spot on. One of our local radio stations does a segment every year around the holidays where they pick the caller with the best story about how a meth lab explosion ruined the holidays. ::shakes head::

BBM

Yes, if they have any concern for the children living in their household. Some people like the high without risk of exploding and burning down the whole block...

the smell is extremely bad. (think of the worse cat urine odor you have smelled)

But even more than that the chemicals are explosive and leave residue - so if LE saw any possible sign of meth manufacturing they would err on the side of caution.

I've seen a lot of Meth use in the past and while i tend to think that is the drug we are dealing with here the thought of oxy is a huge possibility.

The family may not of turned her in for abuse not so much because they would lose their connection but more because she could (and I believe would) have used that against them-and they could have had their own kids taken from them.

Great insight! They wouldn't want DSS to investigate involved and risk losing their own kids!

Perhaps they are looking for the prosthetic?

I hope SM didn't sell Zahra's pain killers!!!!

I haven't seen anything to suggest that Zahra had any medical need for pain killers. Of course, she was in plenty of pain from beatings, but she wouldn't have been getting painkiller prescriptions for that.

Could be why they moved so much, too.... so that the fumes wouldn't build up in any single place... keep hopping around, no ammonia stench, no suspicion, no LE.

Yeah, like half my neighborhood (I anly partly jest here, I am not in the best of neighborhoods, but I am pretty sure the prevelant one around my neck of the woods is crack but meth is catching up last few years)

What a waste.

Totally could be oxy too...

Ok, help here... the ones buying drugs from SM, does it include the woman that ABC obtained exclusive rights to the photo of a bruised Zahra, from? If so, I will blow a gasket...

eta: (obtaining exclusive rights = money)

Thanks! I remember a story in my local paper a while back about some guy who broke into a family's home right in front of them, obviously high as a kite. One of the things they could describe about him was that he had nasty little sores all around his mouth. I remember a lot of people saying in the comments that that was common with meth users.

When WRAL first put up the stepmom's pic a few nights ago and I clicked to enlarge it, I noticed those little bumpy things around her mouth/chin and thought it might be meth-related.

I realize we've got absolutely no information to confirm that, so it's purely speculation and wondering on my part.

How do you do drugs, sell drugs abuse a child and still function in everyday life? I get worn out from dealing with kids hubby and grandkids...one glass of wine does me in! Cant imagine making dealing and using a drug on top of it...im tired just thinking of it!
