Found Deceased ND - Andrew Sadek, 20, Wahpeton, 1 May 2014 *alledged undercover drug informant*

Search for missing Wahpeton college student unsuccessful
Scupper the golden retriever stood alert on the bow of a flat-bottom boat Tuesday afternoon on the Wild Rice River. He was trying to pick up a scent, but a stiff breeze complicated his efforts.
“Today is a poor day for working the dog because of the amount of wind,” said Pete Fendt, a Valley Water Rescue team member who took a turn in the bow, probing the brown waters with a long pole, to no avail.
Although Scupper is specifically trained to detect human remains, there’s still hope Sadek will be found alive.

I wonder if he packed because his plan was to go away on some sort of sabbatical..? Sadly when I was in college, I went missing as well. I was gone for a day and I didn't tell anyone because I was having just a bad week. I'm hoping this case is no different. But what I learned from that experience is that it was selfish of me not to tell anyone because those are the same people that cared enough to call the police. All I had to do is make one very quick phone call telling them that I was going out of town to a motel to get away. Lesson learned.

Thank you for sharing, I also have been there and done that. I hope he is taking a time out and safe.

Can't seem to get Andrew off my mind. Praying for him. Hope today is the day he is located safe.

Thinking of andrew! I hope today's the day they you safe!

3 days of searching for missing NDSCS student and nothing found
Crews plan to be out searching again Wednesday, but after exhausting much of a five mile radius around campus they aren't optimistic about expanding their boundaries.
Campus police say there are no known reasons that Sadek would leave.

In fact, they say he had even been making plans for this past weekend.

They've been looking into cell phone records, but are not releasing any details on who his last calls or messages were to and from.

I just realized that the searches, etc are being run by campus police not local LE.

After almost a week, the search NDSCS student Andrew Sadek has been suspended. Search authorities met to talk about potential options going forward, and weren't able to find one.

They say once they get new information or find a strong lead, they’ll begin searching again.

As campus police follow up on leads, friends, classmates and staff at North Dakota State College of Science held a "Vigil of Hope" For Andrew Sadek Thursday night.

Warrants issued for missing NDSCS student -
Wahpeton, ND (WDAY TV) - The search for missing NDSCS student Andrew Sadek took another turn Friday afternoon.

Warrants had been issued for Sadek's arrest after NDSCS began an investigation into his disappearance, according to a press release sent out by North Dakota State College of Science Friday afternoon. Court records indicate warrants were filed Friday, May 9th.

Court records indicate Sadek was charged with 2 counts of Delivery of Controlled Substance within 1,000 Feet of a School in April of 2013. He was charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia in November of 2013.

Valley News Live has reached out to the Wahpeton Police Department, Richland County Sheriff's Office and an area Drug Task Force but none were able to elaborate on why the warrant was issued now, more than a year later while Sadek is still missing. The Assistant State's Attorney for Richland County tells Valley News Live the timing of the warrants, issued after the search for Sadek began, is coincidence.

After learning of the charges, and following consultation with Sadek's parents and other law enforcement agencies, the NDSCS campus police department say they've focused the investigation on finding Andrew Sadek and on his safe return.

His mother said she was sure Andrew didn't leave voluntarily. Had LE not given this information to his parents yet?

Accused of selling small amounts of marijuana on two occasions in April 2013. The sales totaled $80 and took place in a parking lot on the campus. One sale involved 2.22 grams of marijuana and the other 1.13 grams. Sadek is also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, a search of a dorm room in November yielded an orange grinder that had marijuana residue, court documents say Sadek admitted to owning the grinder.

NDSCS campus police stated that a different law enforcement agency was involved in the drug cases and campus police would not comment on the situation, other than to say campus authorities remained focused on finding Sadek. A County Sheriff deputy and a member of the drug task force that investigated the marijuana deals last April, said it is not unusual for the task force to bring cases involving the college campus to prosecutors near the end of a school year because it allows authorities to issue warrants before students head for other jurisdictions.

He declined to talk about whether authorities approached Sadek about the alleged drug deals prior to his disappearance.

Delivery of a controlled substance is a Class A felony because the activity happened within 1,000 feet of the college. Though maximum penalties are rarely imposed, a conviction on a Class A felony in North Dakota can be punished by up to 20 years in prison and a fine of $20,000.

With this latest news regarding the sale of small amounts of pot, I am wondering if Andrew may have been meeting up with a supplier or dealer. It would be helpful if his dorm roommate(s) knew who his supplier is.

I feel that if his supplier knew that Andrew had been investigated for sales, that they may have been fearful of him "flipping" and becoming an informant and revealing them as a supplier. With that being said a larger supplier presents larger penalties and jail time, not to mention disruption of business.

Hopefully LE can obtain his cellphone records and see who he had talked to prior to his disappearance. Also in many cases a students cellphone is on their parents plan and name. If that be the case the parents could request those records sometimes more quickly than LE's paperwork to get them.

It is big business to supply pot to campuses in the US. Nathaniel Tallman was murdered just this February over supplier transactions regarding exporting pot from Longmont, CO to North Dakota. Not knowing the geography of ND I do not know if there is a connection, but this case does show the lengths suppliers will go.

I'm wondering if he took off because he is embarrassed and ashamed, and very concerned about how his parents will react after having just suffered such a big loss. As a parent of two boys, I know I would rather have them home facing a felony than lying awake at night wondering where they are and if they're safe. If that's the case, I hope he'll call or come home and give them a chance.

My worry is that he was working as an informant for LE, in the hopes of not having his case picked up/charged. This happens with great regularity where I live - get a small time dealer, cut them a break, label them a "confidential informant" and agree to plead the case down to a minor charge such as a misdemeanor, instead of the more serious delivery charge.
If this was the case, and the odd timing of the warrant post-arrest date does suggest this as a possibility, imo - then his dealer may have caught wind of it or suspected something.
People just don't get killed over minor weed dealing, so he would have to be buying from a relatively big dealer, in order to be hurt imo.
It's entirely possible, however, that his disappearance had nothing to do with the delivery charge...but it is odd timing.
A gram of top shelf weed, a.k.a. "loud" weed, goes for $20 a gram here, and the cheap stuff, a.k.a. "mid" can be obtained in $5 bags. He was small potatoes, and unless he was working with LE I don't see the charges factoring into his disappearance.JMO

Things are sharpening into focus now for me. I think Andrew's disappearance has something to do with drugs. I am worried for him very much.
These beautiful kids that get involved with drugs just break my heart. My own son took a similar path...but he is now 28 and making some very good choices. It took about 9 years for him to get away from the terrible place he was in. I am thankful he lived long enough to get through it.
Praying for Andrew....
