There are no updates that I can see on the recovery effort. Looks like they still haven't been able to pull the car out.

Very sad for the family :(

Cold delays recovery of vehicle of missing North Dakota woman | Grand Forks Herald

"We attempted to put in divers but they iced up," he said, referring to ice forming in the breathing regulators used by the divers. "It got dark so we came in and will be back at it (Wednesday, Dec. 11)."

Kaiser said cold weather has been hard on searchers and equipment.

"It is especially hard on all the equipment," he said. "As soon as you pull the equipment out of the water ice forms on it."

Article also mentions they plan on using a "heated fish house" in their efforts today.

Prayers for the family during this agonizing wait. And prayers to all those who live in North Dakota and grow/raise food for us, get energy for us, caretake natural resources, in a beautiful but very unforgiving terrain where a small mistake can turn deadly.

Beautifully said @Moonracer. So many of us take our food supply for granted, not thinking about those who produce it for us.

The search will continue Thursday, Dec. 12, for a 63-year-old Buchanan woman missing since Sunday, according to Chad Kaiser, Stutsman County sheriff.

[...] Officials were able to retrieve the vehicle from the water Wednesday afternoon but a window was open and her body was not in the vehicle.

"It was a hit below the belt," Kaiser said. "I feel bad for the family that this is dragging on for so long."

Oh how agonizing. They finally bring the car up but the window is open and no one is inside. This just prolongs the agony for the family. My heart goes out to them.

Recovery Continues: Missing woman’s vehicle

Update…

Jamestown (CSi) Efforts to recover the vehicle of Sonia Heinle of Buchanan continued on Wednesday. The Vehicle is submerged in about 10 feet of water in a slough near her home. The cold temperatures have hampered divers, freezing their underwater gear.

Plans were to have a heated fish house brought to the scene, to keep the personnel warm, as crews rotated in going into the slough.

But WHY was the window open? It was cold that night! Driving with window open - now I am very uneasy.

That’s the first thing I asked myself after reading that!
Could it have been down because she attempted to free herself from the car?

Search continues for missing Buchanan woman after car recovered from water | The Dickinson Press

How the search continues will also depend on the weather, Kaiser said. Plans call for resuming the search in the slough Thursday with the Stutsman County remote-operated vehicle.

The ROV uses cameras and sonar to search in the water without divers. The slough is at least a quarter of a mile long with varying widths and depths.

"If the weather cooperates, we'll also do a land search in the area," Kaiser said. "And if we can, we'll bring in a second ROV to aid in the search."

My thoughts are, of course, with Sonia's family. But also, LE, SAR, divers, anyone involved - they are persistent in doing their jobs in conditions I can't even begin to comprehend, being a southerner. Sending encouraging thoughts to everyone.

I think you and Auntie C are correct...

So does this mean since the days that have passed, they haven’t done a land search in the area?
