Found Deceased NE - Tyler Goodrich, 35, left his house to go on a run, Lincoln, 3 Nov 2023

I'm so conflicted here. A man who loves his boys just offing himself or was he feeling that they were going to be taken away? Ugh I hate it
Just because someone commits suicide doesn’t mean they don’t love those around them. They just can get to a point where they think those they love will be better off without them around.
No idea if it’s relevant here, but on so many threads where self harm is a possibility people make statements like this which make sense to a “normal” person but not to a person who is in a bad place mentally.

It sounds as though he was feeling very overwhelmed and threatened. Yes, probably felt he would not be allowed joint custody of his sons due to past DV (which he had actually worked on in good faith, from the sounds of it) and that his reputation and career were threatened.

From the Dateline transcripts it sounds as though the announcement of divorce and calling 911 about the pushing drove Tyler over the edge. Because of the pushing and the fact that his husband was on the phone with 911 dispatch, he likely feared imminent arrest. Tragic.

What a mess. And what a very tragic end. I feel really bad for everybody in this one, particularly because we simply will likely never know exactly what happened.

RIP Tyler. He must have been in a truly terrible headspace.

Human remains found west of Lincoln have been identified as a man who went missing in the area in November 2023.

Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office held a press briefing Monday where he confirmed the remains found near Highway 77 and West Pioneers Boulevard were Tyler Goodrich.

“Based on what we have discovered and details at the scene, the deceased has been identified as Tyler Goodrich, who has been missing since Nov. 3, 2023,” said Chief Deputy Ben Houchin. “I would like to send our condolences and deepest sympathy to Tyler’s family and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.”

My mind is going through possibilties. Are the trees in the area evergreen or deciduous? He disappeared in November, found in March, so that doesn't make sense.

I suppose it's simple - searchers weren't looking up :(

Can someone take a look at the map link. If he was found 1,000 yards from his home, is what I indicated correct?

That’s such a smart question. I never would have thought of it!

I have absolutely no right to know - but I do still wonder what was said in the moments before Tyler ran out the door.
Me, too, Knox. It's kind of like a case that is local to me the resulted in a murder/suicide of a husband and wife. Both appeared to the outside world as wonderful, loving people who were good parents going through an amicable divorce. Next thing you know, they are both dead. I think no one really knows who killed whom, though, and most assume it was the man and it probably was. The main reason for that assumption is that she was the one leaving the marriage. However, due to the enormous tragedy for both families who loved both people and the children they left behind, those details have been kept private except to say it would be speculation at this point to lay blame on one or the other. They just do not know. It's so sad. At the end of the day, we have no right to know, but we will always wonder. Just as in Tyler's case, something caused a "no turning back" fatalistic snap. I think our wanting to know is more than just basic curiosity. I think it is our need to understand so as not to allow ourselves or someone else to repeat the same mistake.

Had a lump in my throat when I came on after a few days away and saw that this thread had moved to found deceased.

RIP Tyler I’m sorry that you thought this was your only option and I just wish you knew how loved you were.

I hope finding the body allows the family to begin the grieving process.

I have lurked here off and on and finally joined to comment. I am local to this but did not know Tyler, his family or Marshall. This is actually the outcome I expected but I thought his body would be found sooner. No matter if the allegations of DV were true, things were escalating in their marriage. Tyler worked for the Nebraska Dept. of Corrections. If he was arrested, he would have lost his job and potential custody of the boys in a divorce. He likely ran out while Marshall was on the phone because he thought an arrest was possible. It would be devastating to lose his job, his home and his family. No one knows for sure what happened in their marriage but Marshall’s version of the story is much more believable than him killing Tyler and able to hide the body for this long. But the accusations on news articles and on the Facebook page have been horrible. With no evidence, public opinion already convicted Marshall, and the admins of the Facebook page, including members of Tyler’s family, did nothing to stop it. I don’t blame Marshall for cutting them off and going public with his side of the story. People are now speculating that Tyler’s body was hid there after searchers were done with that area. People love a juicy crime story.

News reports have backed off that Tyler was found IN a tree and LE isn’t giving a lot of details. Thick, wooded areas like that are dense with leaves, pine needles and fallen branches and if he was in a tree, the branches could have been dense enough to hide him. We have had extremely strong winds in this area the past couple weeks. It may have been enough to uncover or dislodge his body.

It is a very sad tragedy for his family and friends, and the whole community is grieving. But it looks like he likely took his own life, a rash decision made by a man scared of losing everything he loved.

Goodrich's father said his son's body was apparently in the tree.

"He was 6-foot-2. That have been like walking by this pillar and that pot sitting there, you would have seen him. You didn't have to look up. You'd have walked right across the body," Goodrich said.

[...]

Even though he may have been going through a divorce, he had made other living arrangements.

"He had told his dearest friends he was already looking for a place to move to with a divorce so that he could still be close to the kids. Why would you be going through that and taking those steps to suddenly just end your life? It doesn't make sense to me," Goodrich sai

Looks like LE flagged the area in the tree. I'd have to agree with his father.. if Tyler was 6'2", then you'd THINK he would have been seen had someone searched that area. Heck, even if they weren't looking up and instead looking down at their feet.

And they are pine, not deciduous. But still.... that branch doesn't look that high off the ground.

Brief news update (like VERY brief, basically saying it's him), but Tyler's dad is also talking and walking down the path and to the area Tyler was found.

His dad said the direction the video shows the person running is toward their barn and they have a large property, and he said, "Once you go past that... it's terrible." Something about briar and it being really difficult terrain. Just an FYI I learned only minutes ago from these links
I had to search this site because I remembered it was said that Tyler ran toward the back of the property and found the above old post.

Since his dad said once you go past the barn it's terrible (briar, etc.). What popped into my mind was he headed for the barn for some rope, then ran to wherever it was that he was found and hung himself. JMO If that was his intent, and it looks like it was, he wouldn't have needed his cell phone. You can't make or take calls from heaven.

so sad, he was close to home. rest in peace. i hope Tyler’s family and friends can start to heal with some sort of closure.

imo — if this was self inflicted, i feel that Marshall was certainly scorched by the public who largely insinuated that he was responsible without any evidence to validate that rumor. Marshall went on a podcast maybe 6 months ago and he just sounded deflated and tired. i really felt for him.

That's interesting that Tyler had already been planning for a divorce. It reinforces my original belief that he had already brought it up in previous discussions.

IIRC, when no one knew of Tyler had just left the area, his employer made a public statement that his job was not at risk. Unfortunately, that information came too late. RIP Tyler. Prayers to his family and friends.

ETA: Link to news article in which employer states Tyler still had a job

Houchin made it clear that Goodrich is not in trouble for anything that has happened.

“If he is hiding and thinking he’s in trouble, he can come out and not be,” he said. “He also still has his job.”

Lonnie Goodrich said his son’s employer has been using his vacation days, and his position isn’t in jeopardy if he comes back.

“You’re not in any trouble,” he said. “Turn yourself in. Call. Call me, we’ll come get you, and then we’ll go down to the police station together. And then they can call off this search.”

Wow, ok.
That does look like the body should have been seen even from the ground. We don't have a scale for size reference, but it doesn't look as dense and impenetrable.
If I was walking in that direction I feel like it would be in sight.
Not to say that searchers have done a bad job, on the contrary I am always impressed by volunteers who give their free time to help out. But I think it goes to show that different set of eyes may focus on different things, so maybe having repeat searches in the same areas it's the way to go in the future.

Sad development but at least Tyler is now going to be home.

Marshall stated that the fight escalated when he himself officially asked for a divorce, and that’s why Tyler got violent. The altercation was recorded, which spooked Tyler as he had DV issues in the past, and that’s why he ran.

NOT my opinion, this was all according to Marshall

Respectfully, that's only one side of the story. We should just leave it at that. TIA

It absolutely matters to understand why the situation and why it might have escalated. Whether it’s true or not is something I’m not touching, thus my emphasis on Marshall’s account and not my conjecture.
