OSCE: PRECIOUS TIME LOST DUE TO SHELLING, UNACCEPTABLE

RTL-Nieuws reports::
http://www.rtlnieuws.nl/nieuws/buit...tijd-verloren-door-beschietingen-onacceptabel

The work at the crash site of flight MH17 was stopped today one and a half hour earlier than planned due to shelling in the area.

"That is unacceptable," Michael Bociurkiw, OSCE, told RTL Nieuws.

Automatic gunfire was heard at the location, and the ricochet of bullets. At a certain moment it was decided to stop the work for today.

"This cannot go on. Again, precious time has been lost. We think of all those people who have lost someone.
They have the right that the human remains and personal belongings be returned as soon as possible."

"There is a cease-fire and once again, it has not been respected. I will not say who has violated it, but the parties know darn well who it is. It's horrible."

'STUTTGART, GERMANY — Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel says there is a growing threat that Russia will invade Ukraine, pointing to the increased buildup of Russian troops along the border.'

There's an estimated 20,000 troops there too - though it's the millions there are to draw on behind them that worries me. I hope the search teams finish up soon.

GENEVA, August 5 (UNHCR) – Amid a worsening situation in eastern Ukraine, the UN refugee agency on Tuesday estimated that more than 117,000 people are now displaced inside Ukraine.
"In the past seven days more than 6,200 people have been forced from their homes," UNHCR's Vincent Cochetel told journalists in Geneva. As of August 1, an estimated 168,000 people have crossed into Russia so far this year.

This is Wikipedia about the so called "Ukranian Revolution" of February 2014
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_Ukrainian_revolution

"The Ukrainian revolution of February 2014 took place after a series of violent events in the capital of Kiev culminated with the ousting of the then-President of Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych. This was immediately followed by a series of changes in quick succession in Ukraine's sociopolitical system, including the installation of a new interim government, the restoration of an older version of the constitution, and the call to hold impromptu presidential elections within months.

After a first revolution, namely the "Orange Revolution" in 2004, Ukraine had been mired by years of corruption, mismanagement, lack of economic growth, currency devaluation, and an inability to secure funding from public markets. Because of this, Yanukovych sought to establish closer relations with the European Union (EU) and Russia in order to attract the capital necessary to maintain Ukraine's standard of living without affecting the local population significantly. One of these measures was an association agreement with the European Union which would provide Ukraine with funds contingent to several reforms in almost all aspects of Ukrainian society and break its economic ties with Russia. Yanukovych, at first, considered the contingencies to be fair but ultimately refused to sign the agreement considering it too austere and detrimental to Ukraine. Besides that, EU demanded the release of Tymoshenko, who was in jail, as an incidental condition of association agreement with the European Union. Therefore, Yanukovych signed a treaty with Russia instead, which sparked civil unrest in Kiev that ultimately led to violent clashes between protestors and law enforcement officers under unclear circumstances. As tensions rose, Yanukovych fled the country and has not returned. Russia has accused the United States and the EU of funding and directing the revolution.

After the 2014 revolution, Russia refused to recognize the new interim government, calling the revolution a coup d'état[33] and seized control of the Crimean Peninsula in Ukraine"

Much more, with various links, at link.

IMHO, the EU is not an innocent bystander in this hornet's nest. And the current Ukrainian powers are no nice guys either. Poroshenko is simply less known than Putin.

I found it highly interesting yesterday when it was announced that a russian aircraft had locked onto US aircraft "the day before" this incident. I'm not sure now that I believe this whole incident hasn't been a huge cover up from day one. Could it be that they had locked onto a US craft the day before, and someone shot and the malaysian plane was then hit? It has been discussed in some circles. I find that after all this time for this to come out only now....mos late...that's a cover up imo. I'd like to learn more about the russian's locking onto US aircraft "the day before" *I dont believe it was the day before at ALL* jmo.

Starry, starry night
Paint your palette blue and gray
Look out on a summer's day
With eyes that know the darkness in my soul

Starry, starry night
Flaming flowers that brightly blaze
Swirling clouds in violet haze.....

They would not listen, they're not listening still
Perhaps they never will.

Lyrics from Don Mclean's 'Vincent ( Starry Starry Night).

Song video, illustrated with Van Gogh paintings. Hauntingly, some look so much like Ukraine, even the crash site. Beautiful one too, of St Petersburg, Russia. http://youtu.be/DD1ih3Q9otE

Vincent Willem Van Gogh. Dutch painter. Sunflowers, and much more. Sunflowers it must be for our MH17 lost though. Nothing else will do. May you all come home, in some way, somehow.

It was coming. Sad it arrived so soon though.

The teams need to come home now, before more lives are lost.

Ukraine is going to run with blood. Again. And no-one - least of all the innocent - will be safe.

SMALL TEAM REMAINS IN THE AREA, INVESTIGATORS WILL RETURN ONCE SAFE

RTL-Nieuws reports
http://www.rtlnieuws.nl/nieuws/binnenland/rutte-nederlandse-missie-mh17-stopt-te-gevaarlijk

The Dutch mission at the scene of MH17 stops. It's too dangerous to continue, given all the developments there. Prime Minister Rutte has made this known just now.

The experts cannot do their job due to the safetry situation on the ground. The main areas have been examined, Rutte said. Tomorrow there will be a flight from Kharkov to Eindhoven with lots of recovered luggage from the train and the area.

"We would have preferred to stay on, but the developments point in a different direction. We did what we could under these circumstances. Everybody will agree with us, that we can not expose our people to such conditions" Once it is safe again, the investigators will return to the crash site, Rutte said.

"A small team will remain in the region. Thus, there remains an opportunity for locals to transfer possible human remains and personal belongings of the victims."

Rutte indicated that he hopes to be able in two or three weeks to tell how many bodies of victims have now been recovered. 700 DNA samples have been taken that are currently being investigated.

PRESSCO PIETER-JAAP AALBERSBERG, HEAD OF REPATRIATION MISSION

Because in recent days the security situation at the crash site of flight MH17 has worsened, the experts can not do their job properly.

The head of the repatriation mission, Pieter-Jaap Aalbersberg, has said that. The tension has increased and the disaster area was becoming less and less accessible.

"In recent days, the experts had to work under difficult conditions to search the largest possible area. So far, it has been a daily challenge to work undisturbed," Aalbersberg explained. "The experts were wearing shard vests for their own safety and often heard how shots were fired nearby."

"We have to be realistic," he emphasized. "As the security situation continues to decline, policemen and experts can no longer do their jobs safely . Safety of our people is paramount. Today that became even more clear."

During the work shots were fired with small caliber weapons in the vicinity of the search team. Thereupon the search team moved to a safe location. Following the advice of the OSCE, the team subsequently withdrew to the base in Soledar north of the crash site.

There really are no words, are there? I'd start with unconscionable but that's assuming conscience or principles or even scruples. Non-existent here.

I've been following along since Sunday, and thank you all for the stellar job you've done keeping the thread updated with the latest news.

My youngest took a terrible fall from a high bar, fracturing her upper arm and suffering a concussion :(

Throughout this difficult time I've had the thought on more than one occasion that the last thing we need is for this amazing team of recovery workers, who I view as earthbound angels, to directly encounter this horrible war, and gain another set of angel wings! :moo:

ITA, Donamena, there really aren't any words that can truly sum up how I feel at this moment. The anger at the loss of life, and innocence; the disgust at the lack of common human decency in the treatment of their remains and the crash site; the continued loss of innocent lives as this war continues as the world watches; the list goes on and on.

Over recent days, I've had to watch my own child suffer - helpless to protect her. Since #MH17, I view the world through a different lens. It is undeniable. I can't help but imagine parents without their children; children without their parents; countless families left incomplete, with no end in sight.

I hope that the global community takes a long hard look at what is happening in the Ukraine and realizes it has and is affecting us all in some way. We are the human race, even if there are some who are incapable of acting like it.

RUSSIA PREPARING FOR 'HUMANITARIAN INTERVENTION' IN UKRAINE

ITAR-TASS reports:
http://en.itar-tass.com/russia/743658

THE UNITED NATIONS, August 05./ITAR-TASS/. Russia has called for the UN Security Council to hold an emergency meeting on the humanitarian situation in Ukraine, Russia’s UN Ambassador Vitaly Churkin said on Tuesday.

“We are convening an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council on the humanitarian situation in Ukraine,” he said, adding that the Russian delegation hoped the meeting would begin at 17:00 New York time (01:00 a.m. Moscow time) but there were no consent from Great Britain, which was currently presiding at the UN Security Council. “So far, the British presidency is jibbing but we will insist on convening the meeting this evening,” Churkin said.

He said there was enough time to prepare the meeting. “There were cases when meetings were convened in a shorter time,” he said.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Russian foreign ministry said that the United Nations, the International Organization for Migration and the International Committee of the Red Cross were ready to discuss Russia’s initiative to send a humanitarian mission to eastern Ukraine.

Russia has an army of 20.000 men ready at the border with Eastern Ukraine, and a further 40.000 soldiers deployed in a military exercise in Astrachan (500 miles from the border)

Developments are expected within 48 hours, if diplomatic measures fail to reach a political agreement.

The decision to stop the Recovery Mission that the Dutch Governemnt has announced together with Australia, Malaysia and OSCE, must be seen against this background.

re bold - I'm guessing it's the "rebels" that are doing the shooting so the OSCE and others can't do their job - they don't want them finding more "stuff"... IMO!

And why the f*ck does Putin have 20,000 troops on the border of Ukraine??? Military exercises?? Sure... :gaah: I thought Putin and Merkel made a deal? No?? One billion for the Crimea and he gets out of Ukraine?

Maybe. Nobody knows. But the call for a 'humanitarian mission' is seen a a political preparation to invade Eastern Ukraine and stop the Ukranian Government from killing it's own Ukranians. (Which they do, there is no denying)
