The Catastrophe of #MH17:
#BBC in the Search of the “BUK” – The Video Report Deleted by BBC

Translation by: Valentina Lisitsa

This video was published by BBC, which seems apparent at the end of the video, using their professional reporter, and is found on YouTube. Pretty interesting. Not a conspiracy video, but explains how fighter planes used to 'hide' behind commercial planes in Ukraine airspace, and local women claim this was happening on that fateful day. Hope it is okay to post.

I thought this was one of the many Russian spins?

I thought this was one of the many Russian spins?

I had a think about it ... and it probably is just Russian spin, so I deleted my post as I don't want to post their spin.

I just wondered a bit about the possibility of Ukraine fighter jets 'hiding' behind commercial planes to protect themselves, especially as they had lost several planes recently. But then I think I remember reading somewhere that no Ukraine planes were in the air at the time .. and perhaps even reading that they didn't fly that high anyway.

Thanks for pointing it out.

Shooting still heard today as rescuers arrived at the site.

' "Today's situation illustrates once more that this mission is conducted in a contested area, where parties involved are still fighting. Access to the crash site is never 100 percent guaranteed," the head of the Dutch police mission in Ukraine, Pieter-Jaap Aalbersberg said'

'The experts continued search comes as Ukraine forces are closing in on the main rebel-held bastion of Donetsk..'

Also, Russia is conducting 'military drills' with over 100 aircraft, on Ukraine's southern flank.

I think the stories about the 'hidden fighter' plane were just one of the many stories created to deflect attention away from where it really lies, but like many fabrications, may have a nugget of truth. Could it be the presence of this plane nearby, when MH17 was shot down?

'A Singapore Airlines plane was just minutes away when Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 was blasted out of the sky, Singapore's government confirmed today.'

This twitter user is tweeting many current photographs of the search. There is also a very graphic one too, be warned. I don't know if it is the body of a passenger who has been newly located, or an older photograph.

A lovely way to think of them can be .... each sunflower as a beautiful living reminder of the beautiful souls on the plane.
Mo, Evie and Otis Maslin's parents gave out packs of sunflower seeds at their children's memorial service yesterday.

The photographic collection of plane parts is really quite extensive now. Amazing work.

https://storify.com/vpkivimaki/mh17-hull-parts

The author of this article is really quite interesting. Last night, I was looking at blog entries that he has posted. He and a few others are taking all of the photographic evidence of the plane parts, and satellite images they can find, and reconstructing the plane.

They have pics of the exact type of MAS plane, and basically imprint the photographic pieces onto it. This part belongs here, this part belongs there, these two parts go together, etc.

ETA: Not sure if they'll find all of the parts though. I read somewhere else that youngsters from a local orphanage had carried off parts of the fuselage to sell as scrap metal - if that is true.

DAY OF NATIONAL MOURNING IN AUSTRALIA

The Australian Government has declared Thursday 7 August 2014 to be a National Day of Mourning to honour the victims of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17.

For the Day of National Mourning in The Netherlands, poet Ingmar Heytze, offical poet of the city of Utrecht, wrote a poem called 'National Mourning'
http://www.eenvandaag.nl/binnenland/52706/gedicht_nationale_rouwdag_ingmar_heytze

I know that many Australians have Dutch ancestors or were Dutch themselves and still speak the language, and for those who don't, I have made an attempt to translate this very raw and tender poem into English, to be shared on this special occasion.
All mistakes are my own, and the original is much better, just listen to Ingmar Heytze in the video, but I hope this translation will give you an idea of what it is about.

National Mourning

I've seen it all. Papers, books, and the monkey in the grass
That monkey, later in a strange hand as a trophy or no, a powerless
gesture of someone who was just a father. Who says what you see,

who spins his yarn, who's counting his money. Who swallows his tears and goes
broken. Who claims the tears of a stranger. I have heard them
all, the names, the column that crying to heaven painfully slow

had to make it's way home from a country where you never want
to be found dead. I've watched it all. It runs out under my eyes,
until I know no more than this: when it comes to the sea

there are children who run into in the surf, the very first time, and children
who say, "It's too much, take me home." This child am I,

I stand there and watch and I want to get in but mourning is black,
grief is deep, grief is cold. I want to go home. The grief is too great.

A meeting is about to commence at the UN .. to discuss the situation in Ukraine. It is evidently grave enough to require their attention, with the reports of Russian troops amassing on the border, and Russian aircraft coincidentally 'conducting training' in that area too.

Thank you for your post and translation, Zazara ... it will be a very sad day ... and the poem expresses sentiments so aptly, for everyone who has been touched by this tragedy.

is there a coloured ribbon to wear tomorrow? Or perhaps some yellow for the sunflowers?

  • #115
I haven't seen any recommendation fruity. Yellow is probably a good idea. Sort of follow the lead of the Maslin family .. who used yellow and green .. the Aussie colours.

The forensic teams in the Netherlands are working fast. British victim Liam Sweeney was identified yesterday, his family say.

'A Newcastle United fan who died on Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 has been formally identified.

Liam Sweeney's family said they were "happy and relieved" after the announcement.'

'Cornelis Kuijs has seen his fair share of horror in 38 years as a Dutch policeman.
....In 2002 he worked in the aftermath of the Kuta nightclub bombing in Bali. Two years later, after the South Asian tsunami, he was one of the first experts on the spot in Phuket and Khao Lak in Thailand, where corpses were brought to a Buddhist temple. “There were 3,200 of them in huge containers,” he recalled this week. “It was a lot.” '

But Col. Kuijs, now operational commander of the Rescue team in Ukraine, has this to say about the mission there:

' “None of us ever experienced anything like this before and we hope never to again.” '

I'm thinking about the work these brave people are doing everyday. We owe such a great debt to them. The Colonel's daughter is an airline stewardess.

The article goes into a great deal of detail about the conditions under which they are searching - including it being so hot the cadaver dog can't sniff properly, and the lack of a Ukrainian/Russian speaker meaning a local woman couldn't tell them about remains on her land.

RTL-Nieuws reports:
http://www.rtlnieuws.nl/nieuws/binnenland/onderzoek-vliegramp-mh17#node_993766

Translation:

The Dutch, Australian and Malaysian experts are back at the location of the crash of Malaysia Airlines, for the sixth consecutive day.

They will be searching for human remains and personal belongings of the victims. As usual, the team left early this morning from the base in Soledar.

In recent days, experts have found the personal belongings of the victims, but no human remains. The reason for this could be that shortly after the crash the locals salvaged many belongings and bodies.

  • #119
"And authorities have said they will announce the details of positive identification of bodies each Friday."

"Dutch police say they have now received 302 photographs and videos of the crash, the crash site and the disaster after making a public appeal for all material to be provided.
The files have come from all around the world, including the Ukraine in response to a police plea for assistance."
