INVESTIGATION OF CRASH SITE MH17 WAS DELIBERATELY OBSTRUCTED BY SEPARATISTS

RTL-Nieuws reports:
http://www.rtlnieuws.nl/nieuws/buitenland/onderzoek-mh17-doelbewust-belemmerd

The separatists have hampered the search for victims at the crash site of flight MH17 much more seriously than was known so far.

This is revealed by research from the editorial staff of RTL Nieuws.

For instance, the Dutch-Australian investigation mission wanted to lift the larger debris with cranes, but that was prohibited by the separatists who control the disaster area in eastern Ukraine. The investigators wanted to lift the wreckage because there was a chance that victims were still laying underneath.

Also another important search work could not be done, say sources close to the investigation. "We wanted to deploy more sniffer dogs and divers, but that was stopped." Also the use of drones was blocked. With that drone, the mission aimed to explore the area from the air.

The Dutch-Australian search team was active for only six days in the disaster area. In that period a mere 3.5 square kilometers on a total of 60 square kilometers were searched by this team, the RTL News editorial research desk discovered. The search for victims and important personal belongings was possible during 20 hours in total.

Earlier Ruud Bik, deputy chief of the National Police, told that the searches were not carried out according to the Dutch standards. That was due amomg other things to the unsafe situation at the location. "If you do pick something as a searcher and there is someone with a Kalashnikov standing behind you who checks whether you can or cannot do this, and whether you should put things back, well then you can imagine that we had to work in intimidating circumstances," says Bik.

Investigators from the Research Council for Safety and the Public Prosecution weren't even able to ever visit the crash site. The investigations into the cause of the disaster and the perpetrators are thus seriously hampered as well.

The Dutch Parliament has put 77 questions about the handling of plane crash to the Government.

BBM

These are probably the same guys who walked their POWs through the streets like cattle...
IMHO the real miracle here was that the teams were even able to do some of their work in this war zone - and that war is ongoing. I don't expect that these 77 questions will make any difference.

BANKRUPT UKRAINE PLANS TO INVEST BILLIONS IN UPGRADING THE MILITARY FORCES

Der Spiegel berichtet:
http://www.spiegel.de/politik/ausland/ukraine-militaerparade-zum-unabhaengigkeitstag-a-987783.html

Translation:

During the visit of the German Chancellor Angela Merkel to Ukraine on Saturday, it was already clear that a rapid solution of the conflict with Russia is not in sight.
The next day was followed by muscle-flexing in Kiev: Around 1,500 soldiers marched through the capital, followed by armored vehicles and trucks with rocket systems. The occasion: the celebration of the 23rd anniversary of independence, the former Soviet Republic of Ukraine had declared its independence from Moscow on August 24, 1991.

Thousands of people flocked to the Maidan, the blue-yellow national flags waving. Congratulations came from President Joachim Gauck: He congratulated his counterpart Petro Poroshenko on the Independence Day, but referred to the difficult conditions in view of the fighting in the east of the country. "The territorial integrity of Ukraine has been seriously injured by the illegal annexation of the Crimea," he added.

It is true that President Poroshenko stressed that Ukraine does not want a war: "We choose peace!" However, in the same speech the Head of State also announced that he plans to increase the military budget by 2.2 billion euros.

The conflicts around the peninsula in the Black Sea were the catalyst for the battles in Eastern Ukraine. Since April, according to the UN, more than 2,000 people were killed. Government forces pushed the rebels back to their last strongholds of Donetsk and Luhansk. During new fierce fighting in Donetsk, grenades damaged a hospital and a morgue. Up to this moment nothing was known about possible victims..

The separatists claimed to have encircled about 5,000 members of government units and 30 tanks in a counter-offensive. But there was no independent confirmation yet.

On Saturday, Chancellor Angela Merkel had already emphasized during her visit to Kiev, a peaceful solution to the conflict is needed. She wanted to demonstrate that "the territorial integrity and the welfare of Ukraine are essential objectives of the German policy", she said. Then she promised the country a half a billion euro loan guarantees. Additional 25 million euros will be invested in the construction winterproof refugee shelters.

President Poroshenko interpreted this as the beginning of a "Marshall Plan for Ukraine".

The first remains of Australians killed in the MH17 crash will return home this week.

Abbott told parliament that identification of the victims’ remains was a “very, very slow process.”

“Only this week, the first Australian victims are coming home to their families,” he said.

He added that a memorial for the victims would be built in the gardens of Parliament House in time for the first anniversary of the crash.

So far 180 out of the 298 victims’ remains had been identified, he said.

Asked on the complaints of certain quarters that the remains were not being brought out at the same time, he said all the identification process needed time and had to go through various phases.

He said the public needed to know that there were 298 cases and only 20 cases could be presented at every meeting ....

According to the standard operating procedure, the remains would need to undergo five important processes after they were identified as belonging to a particular country.

These included obtaining the medical certificate, medical certificate, disaster report, permit to send the remains home and an agreement letter from the Netherlands’ public prosecuting officer for the remains to be buried or cremated.

The remains will then be transported to the Monuta mortuary, S-Gravenhage here about 90 km from Hilversum to undergo religious rites in accordance to their respective beliefs.

This article says that some of the 283 different DNA profiles that have been identified could belong to the search and recovery team members ...

http://www.dutchnews.nl/news/archives/2014/08/mh17_crash_dna_found_from_283.php

http://nos.nl/op3/artikel/691288-mh17-283-dnaprofielen-gevonden.html

There were also fights in the area, so it is a possibility that remains of local fighters have also been brought to the Netherlands.
Surviving relatives should be aware that their loved ones may never be identified.

BBM

I'm a bit curious about the DNA-profiles that belong to members of the search and rescue team.
Would that be hairs or nail clippings? Can't imagine that someone lost a limb and they did not notice....

Press conference about identification now.

173 identified.

Good reference material is essential, help of families also.
It will take a long time.
If DNA identification is not possible, new investigations will be needed.

==== these guys are so technical! I do not doubt that they are experts at their job but please ..... ====

==== I'll wait for the letter. ======

75% victims dna profile made up till now

25 % not possible yet, new methods or samples needed.

may take months

today 283 different dna profiles available, may increase in the coming weeks.

=== on a positive note: these guys are meticulous ===========

answers to questions from the press:

will say nothing about nationalities

possible that dna profiles do not belong to victims but these are scenarios.
rescue teams worked in temperatures of 35 degrees C with decaying or burned bodies.
mix with DNA through sweat is possible
no problem because a DNA-database of all investigators is available, but this will take time.

use of formaldehyde by Ukraine has no influence on dna-identification, helped to preserve the bodies.
was done expertly and with respect.

73 bodies have been returned to families, because certain families want to wait till all members have been identified.

we have done reasonably well sofar but we are not satisfied yet and the job is becoming increasingly difficult, but we are hopeful.

DNA material was received from all countries, we miss some because of family relations, e.g. if someone was adopted or stepchild, but the cooperation with all countries is excellent.

MORE THAN 200 RESIGNATIONS SINCE PASSENGER JETS TRAGEDIESS, MALAYSIAN AIRLINES CONFIRMS.

The Telegraph reports:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/wor...ignations-after-MH17-and-MH370-tragedies.html

Almost 200 cabin crew resigned from Malaysia Airlines in the year to July, many as a result of the MH17 and MH370 tragedies, Malaysia Airlines has confirmed, as rumours swirl about the airline's future.
"Following the MH17 incident, there was a spike in crew resignations but the number has now decreased to acceptable and routinely expected levels,” Malaysia Airlines said in a statement to the Telegraph.
"Many cited 'family pressure' as the reason for their resignation due to the MH17 and MH370 tragedies," the statement said.
A spokesman for the airline would not comment on rumoured crew shortages, but said the organisation’s resignation rate was "way below the industry norm”, and pointed to the company’s support for staff through counselling and special prayer sessions, as well as a talk held last week titled 'Exclusive Discourse - MH370 and MH17 from the perspective of Islam’.

'The body of a second British football fan who was killed when a Malaysia Airlines jet was shot down over Ukraine has been identified, the Foreign Office has said.

The Newcastle United fan John Alder, 63, was among the 298 people on board flight MH17, which is believed to have been shot down by pro-Russia separatists five weeks ago.

Alder was travelling to New Zealand with his friend Liam Sweeney, 28, to watch their team play pre-season friendlies.'

His family hope John's body can be returned home soon.

IT'S HARD TO BE CALLED WORK, BECAUSE THERE WAS NO WORK DONE

Novosti has interviewed the Deputy PM of the separatists' Republic of Donetsk.
http://linkis.com/fr.ria.ru/world/2014/hMFmu

MOSCOW, August 31 (RIA Novosti) – The Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) militia is controlling most of the Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 crash site, DPR Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Purgin said in an interview with RIA Novosti Saturday.

"For the most part, we are controlling [the crash site]. They [pieces of the wreckage] are just lying there, and the most amazing part is, as it turns out, that neither the European side, nor anyone else needs them. The situation is very strange in my opinion," Purgin said.

When asked about how he assesses the work of international investigators at the crash site, Purgin said that "It’s hard to be called work, because there was no work done."

"The work was conducted by our Emergencies Ministry staff, they collected more than 300 bodies on 20 square kilometers [7.7 square miles]. This is what I call work. It was not international investigators who searched the wreckage for personal belongings. Black boxes were also found not by international investigators. We had been looking forward for their arrival, they arrived here in groups of 3-4 people but stayed only for a short while," the DPR prime minister added.

On July 17, Malaysia Airlines flight MH17, heading from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur crashed in Ukraine's eastern region of Donetsk. All 298 people on board died in the crash.

The cause of the crash is still not clear, as the Ukrainian authorities claim the independence supporters of the eastern regions shot down the plane, but the latter say they do not possess the means to hit a target flying that high.

The investigation into the crash has been hindered by the ongoing fighting between the Ukrainian military and local militia in the region.

If I had not been collecting info constantly about how the OSCE, the salvage mission and the investigation mission were prevented by separatisits to reach the location of the crash for days on ....
Those endless, endless negotions that were needed to get the separatists hand over the black boxes .....
The painful decision to stop the mission because the region was becoming too dangerous ....

.... I might almost believe this person. But actually, steam is coming out of my ears.

'We had been looking forward to their arrival, they arrived here in groups if 3-4 people but stayed only for a short while.'

Could that possibly be because the international investigators had guns pointed at them while these punks rifled through the passengers' belongings? What about 'mascara girl' should she have given that tube of mascara that fell out of heaven just for her to the international investigators? It's hard to go to a crime scene when you're prevented by thugs carrying guns to keep you from coming in, & then contaminate the crime scene.

Just look at my post of August 25 for instance:

http://www.websleuths.com/forums/sh...98-aboard-7-17-2014-4&p=10895172#post10895172

I got the link to the Novosti article (http://linkis.com/fr.ria.ru/world/2014/hMFmu) from a Dutch MP who uses this to question the work of the Dutch government and the information that has been given to Parliament. Since he is a person and politician whom I respect, I was aghast at his choice of sources. And I know he would have been the first to ring the bell if the Dutch Gov't had struck a shady deal with the separatists Republic, he even questions the agreements between The Netherlands, Australia, Malaysia and Belgium.
Very upsetting. I've 'slapped his ears' (as we say) with a tweet, no answer yet.

RETURN OF MISSION TO CRASH SITE MH17 IMPOSSIBLE FOR THE TIME BEING

Jeroen Akkermans, RTL-Nieuws reports:
http://www.rtlnieuws.nl/nieuws/binnenland/terugkeer-mh17-missie-ver-weg

Translation:

The MH17 investrigation team must forget the desired return to the disaster area for the time being. The pro-Russian rebels in the area are on the winning side.

Correspondent Jeroen Akkermans is in Eastern Ukraine. Among the bomb craters and wreckage of the plane he found much luggage. Not in a remote corner, but on the spot in an open area where many victims have been found.

At the beginning of last month, the Dutch mission stopped at the crash site. The situation had become too dangerous, the experts could not do their job. The Dutch Government still wants that the investigators return to the area, but then it must be safe.

And that does not look like it is going to happen soon , observes Akkermans. After the disaster of MH17, the Ukrainian army started an offensive against the pro-Russian rebels in the area. Ukrainians initially seemed successful in their advance, but now it looks like the battle is tilting.

The pro-Russian rebel now are forcing the government army back, not only in the South but also in the North. For example, "Kiev" has been driven out from the airport in Lugansk in the meantime.

The area where the plane crashed is still under attack too. And that prevents for the time being any investigation, Akkermans says: "They are shooting with heavy artillery, also towards the debris. Imagine doing an investigation under such circumstances..."

UKRAINE WITHHOLDS MAPS INITIAL SEARCHES

RTL-Nieuws reports:
http://www.rtlnieuws.nl/nieuws/binnenland/oekraine-houdt-kaarten-eerste-zoekactie-mh17-achter

Translation:

The Dutch investigation mission still have not received from Ukraine the maps of the search that was held right after the touchdown of flight MH17 at the location. The maps contain vital information for the recovery of victims.

This involves maps that are in the possession of the Ukrainian emergency services. These alledgedly contain the exact spots of the disaster area that were searched. The Ukrainians coordinated the salvage of casualties in the first days after the disaster. In the region controlled by separatists, local Ukranian emergency workers searched along with miners and other volunteers through the disaster area.

Sources close to the investigation report to RTL Nieuws that already on August 5 a request for the maps was made to the local leader of the Ukrainian search . Meanwhile, more than three weeks have passed and now it appears from answers to parliamentary questions that they have not yet been received. "The request was sent out to the Ukrainian government," the Cabinet writes in a letter.

According to the government, the Ukrainians searched better than was assumed previously. But where they actually did these searches was never exactly known. Nor is it clear how well the search was done "Given the local circumstances, it must be assumed that this search has not occurred according to the standards that are common in The Netherlands," the letter says.

The maps are important because the Dutch search mission has not yet been able to visit many parts of the disaster area. There still may be human remains, personal belonings or other traces. RTL Nieuws revealed earlier that only 3.5 square kilometers has been searched from the crash site, which is 60 square kilometers in total. An important area in the west of the disaster area was never searched by the Dutch.

On maps that have now been released, this western area turns out to be a priority 1 area, that is an area with a high level of urgency to be searched. The reason is that there are a lot of debris. According to sources close to the investigation, aircraft seats have also been found there.

Yesterday, the National Police reported that they want to return to the location of the crash for further searches during two to three weeks. Police hope to locate new DNA profiles and personal items that are important to surviving relatives.

At this moment, the Dutch mission chief Pieter-Jaap Aalbersberg is in Ukraine to ensure that The Netherlands receive the maps of the first search.
