Nevada - Coronavirus COVID-19

My county in California, with zero confirmed cases so far, may be about to announce our first case. Sheriff says the person travelled out of state. I'm going to guess (not that we will be told the person's travel history even if they do end up being our first confirmed C19 case) that they traveled to Reno. Either to shop or to fly elsewhere. Even a person flying to other California locations from my area would most likely fly from Reno.

I guess it's wait time for now.

Lassen County maybe? That's where my parents had their cabin for 30 years. That's why Mom ended up in Reno because she loved the area so much. It's so beautiful up there.

I hope it can stay virus free.

And UI in Nevada gets a new director. I must say, I actually discussed this just yesterday, on the Florida thread...

New interim director appointed to Nevada office overseeing unemployment

Today, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Heather Korbulic as the interim director of the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.

Heather will bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise in coordinated project management and strategic problem-solving to the Department.

Thank you, Dr. Tiffany Tyler-Garner for your service to the State. I know your leadership & commitment to our communities will continue positively impacting NV & we wish you continued success!

Close, I'm in Modoc County.

I hope we (and Lassen) do stay virus free. But I know that's unlikely as time goes by. People from here need to go to the cities for all sorts of reasons. And lots of people come through our areas from other places, especially in the summer -- hunting, fishing, camping, etc.

I remember reading about the 1918 flu and how it ended up in tiny villages in northern Alaska and other super remote places -- brought in most likely by the postal carrier, since that was the only person coming in from outside. Not every little village, obviously, but some. I guess eventually it will be everywhere... :(

Nevada:

“Sisolak also explained that the reopening of the state's casinos is still a long way off.

"The opening of the casinos and the gaming enterprises will probably come into third or fourth phase of what we're going to end up doing," Sisolak explained.
"We're just not quite ready yet to handle that type of a volume," he added.

Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman has drawn attention and scrutiny with her calls to allow casinos and most other local businesses to reopen immediately.

"It's not something as simple as flipping a switch and suddenly everybody's going to come back to Las Vegas," Sisolak said after being asked about her remarks. "We've got to work on the travel part of this."

Sisolak said that he will formally unveil his state's reopening plan tomorrow.”

So, some sad news, my Mother's dog died. And Animal Control in Henderson won't come pick it up, because of the Coronavirus.

She has a giant dead dog, she can't move.

Oh no! What happened, was it sick?

Maybe tell her to call her vet and see if they will take it, or see if someone will help from there.

Well, that is another drama. They won't come over either. If she brings the dog in, they will cremate him for $150.

There are some other situational factors in this that complicates things....beyond what is normally an easy fix. I could easily get my ex to go deal with this, but she hates him. Whatever. And she has some issues with City of Henderson....sigh. Drama.

She took the dog to some holistic health veterinarian. I mean, the dog was 18 years old. Anyway, apparently they did something to the dog, and it died the next day. Or maybe it would have died anyway.

What do you think about this?
Governor has extended the stay at home until May 18, AND has developed a reopening plan which puts casinos on the back burner. They would be stage 3 or 4. Wonder what plans the people booking the Trump hotel have. Brother got a freebie to stay there. Didn't like it at all even at zero cost. Said he would never stay there. Soooo, spread the word.

Nevada nears 5,000 positive COVID-19 cases with 237 deaths
Stay at Home order extended. Cooperation with neighboring states.
"Nevada United Road Map to Recovery," will start out by allowing hospitals to resume medically necessary procedures before beginning to ease restrictions on retail and outdoor activities.

"We’re going to loosen up what some of the restrictions are. Unfortunately, we’re going to have to extend the stay-at-home order a little bit because we just have not reached exactly where we want to get in the downward trajectory," he said.

Facebook page for unemployed Nevadans balloons to 27,000 followers

This Facebook group is absolutely heartbreaking. And heart warming. The numbers of claimants who have not been paid since filing their claims in March, over 2/3 of the claimants have not been paid.

The group has connected people who can trade, and help each other out. My heart goes out to these folks, probably a lot of people who have children.

I feel so fortunate to have a job.

At this point, the dysfunctional Unemployment Insurance System in Nevada is so beyond broken, it could be a full comedy skit for over an hour of jokes.

What has better odds? Getting a Royal Flush on your first poker hand, or getting thru to unemployment insurance in Nevada?

Let's make a bet, I am standing on the corner of Sahara and Nellis, with a sign, "Need money for beer", and you filed an Unemployment insurance claim in Nevada...who is going to get $100 quicker?

Oh, the jokes! Seriously, over 30 million people are out of work. Las Vegas is one of the hardest hit. We have the highest level of unemployment since the Great Depression. Prayers for people affected.

More infighting...
The Nevada Hospital Association has reportedly threatened to stop providing state health officials with daily reports detailing acute-care hospitals’ coronavirus activity, if those officials share the information with the public.
