Wow what agony for her family. I have seen on some shows searchers using a device that looks like a lawn mower, they roll it over the site and it shows differences in the soil. Wonder if they used one and what it showed?

If LE is indeed searching at the right spot, all they needed to do was let word of the location get out to the media...JP would know if they were right or not. There really was no need to say more than that they found a specific area of interest to search, at this time, JMO.

I can see that point, but I can also see that perhaps, in the blur of burying the wife he murdered, he wasn't quite sure where he buried her. It would cause him to think..."did I bury her there? No...it wasn't there..." Remember, he talked about things being a blur.

Get the bees buzzing in his head. Make him second guess what he did.

(I'd be called a bad word if I were in charge, I'd use tiny tiny tools and go an inch at a time combing through every everything!) That's what I imagine they are doing now. I wonder if the slip of human remains could have been to see what the reaction of JP was. Then, when there was no reaction or possibly after they heard the statement that was released, they changed to no remains found to garner his reaction on that?

I'm more inclined to think it was simply that the dogs are trained to find human remains and since several dogs alerted, they simply made the assumption that human remains were there. In the excitement of the moment, they made a little blunder.

I saw the sifting boxes laying on the ground next to the site. Im sure it is an arduous task. I hope they get the answers they are looking for.

Looking at the pics in this link...I wonder if this was an obvious area of dirt or if there was some vegetation grown on it? I guess I was under the assumption that it was mostly dirt and not much ground cover, but looking at the images it looks like there was mostly vegetation. I wonder if this spot was totally obvious or if was found mainly by the dogs?

I like the lack of mouth from the Powell's, silence is speaking loudly. Plus, the statement obviously made via the lawyer. No mouth from Josh or Daddy! Still, like everyone, won't get my hopes up too much just yet.

I kind of thought it was maybe..the plane they said would be assisting in the search that saw the disturbance, then dogs were lead to it, or they went to another area to do a grid search. They moved suddenly via tweets about 2 miles around noon on Thursday? It's posted here.

Oh, the tweets sure slowed down today. Claims of cell phone coverage etc..One reporter posted early this morning he wouldn't be covering today, Nate Carlisle, the coverage was minimal all day today. I think someone shouldn't have reported something or the WVC PD are in full charge now of info. Not unusual but sure different from the info coming out since Tuesday.

Methodical excavation to preserve all evidence and remains. Caylee's case was different with scattered remains over a 1/2 or 1/4 acre area, lot's of documentation, it took from 12/11/08 to 12/20/08 before the LE released the crime scene.

So, a few or several more days we wait...

There was still a lot of actual news coverage every time the news was on.

As far as the cell phone issue goes... generally Topaz Mountain has good cell phone coverage.

However, we've been having issues with the network in general the last few days. Sprint specifically, I am unsure about other carriers.
Even near cell phone towers and before the storms, people are dropping calls, not receiving calls and having all sorts of issues.

So it is TOTALLY possible that they really are having issues with cell coverage. Especially if they are still with Sprint. :seeya:

There is also innocent explanations for some of them...

Nate is in Portland... for a Bachelor party.
Unfortunately he also logged off twitter for the weekend... so we won't get to experience that party with him. :waitasec:

My cousin was murdered, shot in the head for his truck and my SIL's brother was murdered in a horrible tortured manner when his condo was robbed. I understand the pain that is felt; it is even more frustrating when you get to court and the words 'plea bargain' come into play.

I have mentioned many times about my cousin's murder. She was abducted, assaulted and strangled. It was very brutal.
We recently learned that she was not killed right after she was taken but right before she was found. She was kept for days.
It is still unsolved. Has all the markings of a serial killer, realistically.

I've thought about the plea bargain thing a lot... because at this point that is probably the only way a conviction would be reached.
As I've watched cases like Kiplyn Davis... where they haven't even found her.
I have to think we are lucky that at least we know what happened to her.

It is ironic really... I originally wanted to join here because I wanted to post about my cousin's case.
Then Kyron went missing and I focused on that... and then Zahra... and Hailey... avoidance at work...

Here is a timeline of some recent events:

Jan - July 2011 - no notable activity on case

July 15, 2011 - Steve Powell says he will post portions of Susan Powell’s childhood journals online.

Late July - police call Sandy, former girlfriend of Steven Powell, about the report she gave of SP bragging about a cabinet full of Susan's stuff not found in earlier police search. They had not been in touch with her for many months prior to that.

around Early Aug - per police, they got a search warrant for the Powell home prior to the Ely search.

Aug. 18 - West Valley City police say there is a break in the case and that a search will be conducted in Ely, Nevada. Few other details are released.

Aug. 19, 20 - West Valley City police search abandoned mine shafts in Ely and say they are following up on information developed from a search warrant served earlier in the case. They find no signs of Susan and return to Utah.

Thurs Aug. 25 - Police execute a search warrant at the home of Steve Powell in Puyallup. Search completed at 10 p.m.

Friday Aug 26 11 p.m. - Per SP, JP decides to go camping. (25 hours after search completed.)

Saturday, Aug 27 12:00 a.m. - JP leaves with kids to go camping. (per SP, 1 hour after deciding to do so.)

Mon, Sep 12, 2011 - WVC police begin search of Topaz Mntn area in Delta, UT. Unlike Ely, this search includes a plane. Police say they are following up on information.

Tues Sep 13, 2011 - JP called by media to get his thoughs on the search, he says he is "too busy." WVC says "we have reason to guess there's a body out here..." referring to Topaz Mountain. Search continues.

Wed Sep 14, 2011 - At around noon, the search suddenly shifts 2 miles, based on a tip from Mr Tony Abbott, who noted suspicious activity there along a road.
At 1 p.m., Police have encouraged citizens to report any tips which may be connected to Susan Powell’s disappearance.
At 1:30 p.m. Report that "human remains found through cadaver dogs." And that a Medical Examiner is coming....

Thurs Sep 15 - Mr. Cox arrives at burial site, later says to media he was brought there by authorities. Police are giving cryptic reports about what has been discovered. They say the dirt has been recently disturbed at the site, that human remains have been found, but no bones. They are still digging and looking for more remains.

Fri Sep 16 - Still no body or bones discovered. They still have only dug two feet deep and now say they are no longer digging. Cadaver dogs still hitting on dirt in grave site. Sifting for decomp particles with equipment. Weather gets bad later in day, search postponed for Saturday.

I'm not from Utah but just recently spent some time traveling there. I agree that cell coverage can be spotty at times. We also ran into some afternoon storms. I think the reporters are hindered by the lack of cell coverage and the quickly changing weather patterns.

It's not that there was a lack of interest, there just wasn't any information provided for quite a long time. Things just sort of died down. I remember for some time there were only a few of us posting whatever we could here at WS to keep the case alive and viable.

I'm just glad the PD is actively and openly doing something.

It is beyond frustrating when your family member is/are gone, [you know that pain, as well] and you sit in court and watch the person responsible get relatively light sentences because they made a deal. In my cousin's case, he also killed 5 others prior and yet still did not get the DP. A plea bargain, just to get a conviction, is not justice IMHO. 6 deaths and they couldn't get the guy convicted?

I hope that whomever is found to be the guilty party in Susan's case is not given a plea bargain. The pain and frustration for the family afterward is difficult. Sorry for your loss.

I hope that whomever is found to be the guilty party in Susan's case is not given a plea bargain. The pain and frustration for the family afterward is difficult. Sorry for your loss.

BBM: It's still a conviction, whether he accepted a plea deal or not. Many prosecutors would rather have them admit to their guilt rather than go through a costly trial, especially if they don't have a strong enough case against them. As we can see, juries are sometimes very unpredicatable. Proving it beyond all reasonable doubt is very difficult in some cases. Prosecutors would rather get them off the streets, so a lighter sentence is preferable to taking the chance they'll be acquitted.

Does the ground where they are digging look darker to the rest of you than the surrounding area? I've always wondered if he didn't bury her and then build a fire on top of her. My mind went in that direction because of his s'mores comment. Gives me chills...

Am I seeing flags around the one tarp? Flags are usually used as evidence markers. So I wonder what they are finding?
