OMG what if JP burned her like in the campfire while they were camping and the boys were sleeping!

This is not the article I was looking for but it does state that friends and family state that they had been in the area before.

"This remote area is about 30 miles away from where Josh Powell, the only person of interest named in his wife’s disappearance, says he took his two young sons camping the night his wife disappeared from their West Valley City home. Police have said Josh Powell liked to gem hunt — and family and friends have confirmed that Josh and Susan Powell had visited the area on previous family excursions."

Another thing I thought was interesting is that in one of the interviews the reporter stated that JP told her he has never been to that area.
I think one of Susan's friends had evidence in an email or FB post from Susan showing Susan stating that she and Josh had camped in this area. (I could be wrong though.)

Her DNA might still be present inside any bone fragments, but DNA, although a stable molecule, can be destroyed with heat. :(

I was discussing this yesterday....I believe it's something Kiirsi had stated also. Someone else said it was a FB entry of SP's. I'm really curious about this because I want to know exactly "when" and who discovered this information and if it's been LE's knowledge for 2 years ....why wasn't a look-see given then, as it is only 30 miles from Simpson's Springs? TY

I am still looking for it... and I just might go postal if I cannot find it! I remember reading the article when the tweets stated he was on a flight to Utah. Is there a media link to all of the articles?

I really think he discovered the email after the search started because in an interview on Wednesday he appeared not so hopeful and then the next day he is on a one way flight to Utah??

Here's the article where Kiirsi tells of Susan & Josh taking a wrong turn.

snipped

"In the summer of 2009, they went on four or five camping trips and they would just take their van and sleep in their van and just drive wherever and just camp wherever they wanted for the night," says Hellewell.

Hellewell says on one trip Susan left a Facebook update stating they took a wrong turn while looking for geodes near Dugway. She says that searchers now are not far from where Susan was describing.

"So I think they ended up in an erea that was maybe 20 miles away from where police are searching," she said.

Somebody PLEASE find a link to the press conference from today! ;)

I don't have an exact quote (can't find it online) but in today's press conference Chuck Cox stated something to the effect of finding all they could here and then moving on to somewhere else if needed. I have to think and believe that if LE was certain that there was a body still there in this grave that they would be at least giving more information to Mr. Cox than they are to the public. From what I witnessed today I do not believe that Chuck Cox thinks Susan is there. After all, Mr. Cox is Susan's dad. If she is in that grave still and LE believed that then I would like to think that LE would be maybe even telling Mr. Cox that he might want to bring his wife to SLC and be prepared for the upcoming moments. I just don't sense that sense of finalness and closure in the air of the words being said (and the words that are NOT being said also).

LE also made a quote (going from memory here sorry) about continuing to remove and sift the dirt from the hole until the dogs quit showing there are remains in the hole. IMO- IF there is a body there- wouldn't they quit when the BODY was visually seen and then go onto removing the body? It just seemed a strange way to word things- sifting till the dogs quit giving a hit on the hole. (Again, not word for word- going on memory)

Earlier this morning I was wavering a tiny bit on my theory of Josh having moved Susan on his 2nd "camping trip." After hearing the press conference today I am sticking to my theory. I know it isn't a popular one but the more I am aware of specific wording being chosen by LE and now Chuck Cox, I am sticking to it. I think Susan was in this grave. I think Josh moved her. I think there will be enough proof to show Susan was in the grave (dogs are smart, they aren't hitting on this for no reason) and I think, hope, and pray that somehow someway an arrest will be made soon.

Please please please... those darling boys need to know their mama did not leave them...

(I wish I could contribute more but those things just keep going through my head!)

I think something is happening. What are the odds of searching a specific area for Susan and stumbling upon human remains? I hope someone is watching over those precious boys very carefully. And I don't mean JP and his family.

  • #1,110
Well if what has been reported is true then I think LE could be fairly confident human remains would be found if 7 different dogs alerted on the area.

The Pineallas 12 may not believe in cadaver dogs, but I do. A body was there at one point.

A pretty valid criticism from Brent Hunsaker, ABC4 Reporter (more at link):

Don't say you've "found" something when you haven't.

If a cadaver dog sits down -- hits on a spot in the middle of the brush and dry grass at the foot of an extinct volcano, then say so! Explain what that means. Surely that won't give away any secrets or compromise the investigation.

But for Heaven's sake, don't say, "We've found human remains. We're confident they're human."

Found means you've seen it. You can hold it. Possess it.

The New World wasn't "found" by Columbus just because a few seagulls did a flyby of La Nina, La Pinta and Santa Maria. He saw it. He went ashore and walked on it. (Of course, he thought it was the orient ... but that's another matter.)

A dog or several dogs "indicating" on a spot of earth is not "found."

Digging in that spot and uncovering hair or bone or tissue, now that's "found."

Taking those remains back to a lab for analysis, that's "found."

A dog with an incredible sniffer ... not found.

How do you think authorities knew to search Topaz Mntn? Where could they have gotten that information? The likely answer is the search of his WA home on August 25, 2011.

I think there are a few things that led them to search Topaz.

1. GPS. I'm positive that there has been a GPS on JP's vehicles since day one. I know what the press has said, but it is in the best interest of the PD if they come across to JP as bumbling. He is a narcissist and they're appealing to his ego. If they seem like they're incompetent, it reinforces his beliefs and he's more likely to slip up, which I believe he has. The GPS is probably integrated into the system of the car, which is hard to detect even by mechanics. It would also mean they don't have to dump the GPS physically, and it reports remotely. I imagine the sealed warrant says something like the GPS will be attached to any car JP owns or has access to, and that would allow it to move vehicles if he sold the van.

2. The Washington search. Yes, I do believe something led them from this search. Maybe something you wouldn't suspect, like a book or brochure. It could also be a receipt or a piece of notepad paper with an address on it. But also, as I mentioned in another comment, electronic data doesn't disappear with the click of a mouse. It is still easily retrieved by a trained computer forensic scientist. Based off what I see in his websites that he has maintained, I don't believe he is skilled enough to hide his files from scientists. Additionally, a warrant can be served to his internet provider in either state to hand over logs, which are kept by ISPs.

3. Pattern behavior plays a role in this. Both of them are textbook narcissists and I imagine have visited this site, searched for it, or mentioned it somehow in their diaries. I think they both felt SP's house would never be searched, and as such, it was probably a gold mine to investigators. Whatever the piece of evidence that the PD took a closer look at during the end phase of the warrant execution is probably what led them to Topaz.

Authorities on Friday resumed their examination of what they called a shallow grave in the central Utah desert in their investigation into a missing mother after a day of digging provided no clues, no remains and no progress.

"It's a lot slower than we had anticipated,"
said Lt. Bill Merritt of the West Valley City Police Department.

"What we're dealing with right now are very tiny pieces. They all appear to be rock, but we just don't want to miss anything in case there's something that actually is more than that,"
Merritt said.

Cadaver dogs discovered the location this week amid a renewed search for Susan Powell, and investigators declared they had found human remains earlier in the day Thursday.

Police said they 🤬🤬🤬umed human remains would be found after cadaver dogs alerted on the spot.

YES!!!!!!!

they could have said dogs detected a scent of human remains, they could have said lots of things but instead they ASSUMED.
