Identified! NH - Bedford, WhtFem 20-40, UP11273, hip-hugger dungaree cut-off shorts, Sz 7 sandals, Oct'71 - Katherine Alston

Her clothing and estimated months of death might indicate that she went missing in the summer (July or August ?) of 1971.

She might have been living in or near Bedford, NH, or might have been there on vacation from a more distant state.

In spite of the 25 to 35 years old age estimate, I wonder if she might have been a college student on summer break.

A lot of college students found jobs at summer camps in the area in that era. She could be from another state, and reported missing in a state other than NH.

I went to summer camp near the NH border in the early 70s. We also had counselors and staff from other countries as well as other states.

I could imagine that Bedford Jane Doe, if she worked as a camp counselor, could have been extremely difficult to trace if she disappeared from the area. If she disappeared at or near the end of her term of employment, no one would know from where or even when she disappeared. The same could apply to a student on vacation.

Family or friends might not have know where to start. I think she was pobably reported missing from a hometown or college campus far away.

Yeah, me too, but I thought she'd been identified and was still alive?

More information about Kathy and the request for assistance from the law enforcement

If you search the old roommate’s name and New Hampshire there’s a convicted felon right around the same age as Kathy. He was imprisoned for sexual assault. Surely law enforcement would be all over him?

Edit: I’ve sent the info to the cold case email address in the article.

''Kathy Alston was born in Chelsea in 1945, graduated from Dorchester High School in 1963 and took classes at Boston University. In November 1967, she married fellow BU student Ralph Lawson Garrett Jr. in Newton. The newlyweds honeymooned in Jamaica, moved to Cambridge, and later divorced, according to authorities.

Officials say in 1971, Alston’s parents and siblings moved from Massachusetts to Texas where her father’s family was from. Kathy was supposed to meet her family at Logan Airport for their flight to Texas but never showed up.

Records show that no one ever reported Alston missing, but investigators now know her body was found on October 6 in Bedford, New Hampshire.

According to investigators, Alston’s siblings never saw or spoke with Kathy after they moved to Texas.

At the time of her murder, authorities say Alston was already divorced from Garrett Jr., who is currently deceased. Police say there is no evidence to suggest their divorce wasn’t amicable.

Alston was reportedly living at 36 Beacon Street in Boston, Massachusetts with a roommate named David Cormier, whose age is unknown, according to officials.

The New Hampshire Cold Case Unit is now seeking the public’s help in finding Alston’s murderer. Anyone who knew Kathy Alston or associated with her, including David Cormier, is asked to contact police.''
