Who is doing the glasses tally?

This is already very weak. Protect her own interest? She had immunity. Plus, she didn't do anything he didn't do, too, if it was an accident.

I really don't know why this case didn't go with a bdsm gone wrong, and it was an accident by K&S' part. All the cover up, body hiding, etc., could have gone so differently.

Now Lizzie doesn't get proper justice, or a proper burial. I still don't know what really happened. Kat should never walk the streets again, nor should Seth!

I hope this doesn't put reasonable doubt in the heads of the jury.

JMHO

I was in that high court too geevee. Until King started selling his novels in installments. I want the book to be complete. None of that stay tuned and buy part XII of the never ending cliff hanger

I miss the ole King.

Oh, you have some catching up to do, his tone (and book completeness) is back to what it was before the van hit him, Under the Dome is very weighty, as is 11/22/1963 (and one of his very best, imo), also a new addition to the Dark Tower series (you don't have to read the series to enjoy that, it's a story within a story within a story lol).

Okay, back to your regularly scheduled glass-on glass-off closing argument. ;)

The courtroom is packed. Lizzi Marriott's family and friends are filling the first two rows of the courtroom, the gallery is full, and there are several more journalists than our everyday pack... usually its Mike from the Union Leader, Kim from Foster's, Beth from The Portsmouth Herald, Rod from Foster's, Sarah from 48 Hours, Lynn from the AP, and me. And a court photographer. The videographers stay in a media room.

Barth claims that she misrepresented the abuse she got from her father to the jury... he read some of the Facebook messages aloud that Kat sent Seth... Kat told the jury that she fought with her father over things like eating vegetables... but the Facebook messages to Seth describe something more destructive. Barth claims that SHE was manipulating and lying to SETH to get him to pull her into his apartment.

If I were a juror I would have to ask myself "where was your defense case". While I understand they didn't have to call any witnesses, the witnesses they did call was a huge fail (IMHO). Now we get to listed to the FB posts over and over again.

IMO Barth is really taking a chance with this "she's no abused flower" position. As a professional, educated, feminist woman who was taken in by a NPD male, I reject this argument that Kat is to blame for SM's abuse. Barth is talking the standard chauvinist view that a woman CAN'T be a victim of abuse if she is willing to stay in a relationship and she CAN'T be a victim of abuse is she has the strength to expose the abuse.

This is beside the point that SM is not charged with domestic abuse of KM.

This is very different than the way I would have argued the case. I mean, yawn, was he trying to get her out of an abusive situation? We've heard his notes to her read aloud where he's arguably pretty abusive. His offers of "protection" sound pretty predatory to me. He knew she was vulnerable/receptive to being saved, and moved in to cull a high school student away from her family. JMO.

ITA. His offer of "protection" seems a little akin to, "You got a nice place here, it would be a shame if anything happened to it."

oooh, the *contemperaneous* word! Hope the jurors followed the JA case as some of them may not have heard that word before :giggle:

  • #100
BARTH to the jury: We have the words talking about how happy she is, we hear it in her voice and the expressions of emails of her conversation with Roberta Gerkin of her phone calls. Did she really succumb to a transition in 7 months to a slave? Do you buy that?
