:floorlaugh: Coroner the defense hired. " Yes, I'm paid and if you like my opinion it goes further" :floorlaugh: expert shopping is OUT THERE for all to see and on the record :floorlaugh:

:floorlaugh: Testimony on a pay as you go basis. The more you pay the better the testimony?

He is not nearly as well spoken as Dr. Duval.

Looks like we're going to get the controversial Dr Kanfer today, really ligature strangulation is rare..........appears pretty common in the cases on CI Discovery murder cases

The Godfather saga had a couple, so did Goodfellas. Nearly everyone who plays Hangman's Noose has seen one.

It's all over the place I tell ya.

What is the doctor referring to?

He's describing suffocation... which he describes as smothering... it isn't as visible... but when asked by Atty Barth if someone appearing to have a reddish face might have been smothered, he says this... Dr. Kanfer: "if there’s a lack of oxygen because of smothering, the heart doesn’t pump as it should and you can have a backup of blood, most noticeable in the face and the neck." This, as Atty Barth argues that Lizzi Marriott was suffocated by Kat McDonough, and not strangled by the defendant.

I imagine it's not usually that easy to slip a rope around someone's neck. They'd have to be someone you could easily overpower, like Jon Benet Ramsey, or someone who was relaxed and not at all expecting an attack, like LM.

What BS. When you are contacted as an expert witness, you are specifically asked if you "think" you could find that _____. I guess you could end up with an adverse opinion, but the attorneys make it pretty clear what they are looking for, and everyone I know who is asked the question says "no" if they are pretty sure they won't come back with the "right" answer. You would rarely get asked again if you didn't operate that way.

Minor4th, is it discoverable if a consultant finds something adverse to the defense's case?

Probably not - only if its an expert who is going to testify

Read about this defense expert under the section "SNAFU Defense" 2nd paragraph of this article http://www.austinchronicle.com/news/2011-02-04/a-parliament-of-experts/ … #SethMazzaglia

But the doctor suffered a near-meltdown under cross-examination by Assistant District Attorney Allison Wetzel, a tough prosecutor with a quick and biting style. After making it through her questioning, Kanfer made off-the-stand comments about Wetzel and her co-counsel, Assistant D.A. Gary Cobb, including that the prosecutors could "go f*** [them]selves." When Kanfer again took the witness stand, Wetzel questioned him about his statements, which he readily admitted making. "That's an exactly correct quote," he told Wetzel.

If you don't like your home state's ME opinion, I guess you have 49 others to choose from. I wonder how many were vetted before the defense decided on the one from CT.

 Barth should have done some homework (or supervised whoever was supposed to be doing the homework)

anyone else having finicky stream?

He says in his opinion, the scenario most likely ... is that Lizzi Marriott was suffocated ... as Kat McDonough described in her interview with the Defense team. Some members of Lizzi Marriott's family were shaking their heads no as he was saying this.

Sounds more like the other D.A.

Boy is WS clunky today. :(

  • #577
I mean, didn't this "expert" testify that he'd only seen like ONE ligature murder in his entire career? Remind me again why he is an expert?
