I am relieved to hear about the arrest but at the same time absolutely heartbroken at the circumstances of this senseless murder.

I have a few thoughts---

Perhaps Saal was feeling a high degree of stress trying to support his new family and may have done something illegal to get additional cash or maybe he just did something that Carolyn witnessed that would have cost him his job. Perhaps he did sexually harass her and she threatened to report him...

My other thought is that I find it beyond coincidental that WS site was shutdown for hours yesterday/last night... just at the time our discussion was leading its way towards a coworker... it's possible LE suspect Saal could have been on this site and it may alert him somehow.

Kenneth C. Saal, 30, of Lindenwold, was arrested on Wednesday in the death of Carolyn Byington, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office and the Plainsboro Police Department. He was charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose in the third degree.

[...]

The investigation remains active. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Tim McMahon of the Plainsboro Police Department at 609-799-2333, ext. 1627, or Detective David Abromaitis of the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office at 732-745-4436.

Camden County Man Arrested In Plainsboro Woman's Murder: Cops

From previous report by County Attorney Carey, we know they were struggling with timeline. By this arrest and releasing the suspects name, I believe they are hopeful more information will come forward from others.

This arrest was long awaited.

I was also wondering if he was playing with the books somehow and maybe she discovered something.

Idk, they are a large company with multiple offices around the world. If he was doing something illegal with the books, I’d think it’d be unlikely she would know unless he told her. I can’t imagine a project manager having much, if any, access to the accounting system or company financials. Jmo based on my experience in accounting.

Reminds me a little bit of the Lululemon case in Bethesda, MD several years ago where the coworker staged a crime scene and murdered her manager in the most horrific, brutal attack - simply because she feared her manager was going to report her for stealing a stupid pair of overpriced yoga pants. Time will tell if it was something like that or a more personal thing.

I have to say, while following this case, this scenario is not what crossed my mind at all. It just seems so ridiculous that someone would think you could murder your coworker while being out of the office at the same time and no one around you would put the pieces together. So glad to hear that her coworkers DID notice the odd behavior and report their suspicions to LE.

Who knows - could be anything - falsifying expense reports, making up fake expenses, changing numbers on the budget of a project, using company resources to do personal side business, etc etc etc. No idea! Just speculations wondering if it was more a murder to silence her about some kind of business wrong-doing she observed, rather than a personal/romantic slight/stalking, etc. Even if it wasn't something Madoff-y level fraud, just something unscrupulous enough that he feared losing his job if someone found out.

I suppose. I am personally leaning more towards something outside of work, like an obsession with her or something along those lines.

Jeez I hope no one here ever stumbles across my Pinterest page. It’s full of pins of absurd houses I know I could never afford, outfits I know would never look good on me, projects I will never bother attempting, and healthy meals I’m never gonna cook haha.

I wonder if he may have been sexually harassing her, and she had enough and recently threatened to report him.

<snip> Saal was arrested Wednesday after police conducted interviews with other coworkers at Engine, a Princeton-based marketing firm.

According to the complaint, Saal and Byington took their lunch breaks around the same time on June 10. Saal texted his immediate supervisor that day he would return late from lunch because he was at a mechanic, which the supervisor later realized was not true.

<snip> On Monday, the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office received the results of DNA testing found under Byington’s fingernails and found Saal could not be excluded. Investigators also reviewed video footage which captured a vehicle matching Saal’s traveling in Plainsboro on June 10 at 2:04 p.m., according to the complaint.

On June 19th, the day the police interviewed him, he was pulled over for speeding.

I get the sense he had financial troubles. He lives in a high crime area, according to the records I found at one point he was driving without insurance, his car is 13 years old and I saw something about bankruptcy.

Wow- so they were on to him from the very beginning. Thank God for all the co-workers who came forward with information.
I can only hope this arrest has brought Carolyn's family and friends a little peace. Though I am sure so much anger arises. I am so angry at him and I never even knew her.
I will never understand what drives people who seem to have it all in life to hurt or kill someone.

From the above article - interesting that they got the DNA testing back just on Monday. I think in the world of crimes on tv solved in an episode, we don't realize how long it sometimes takes to get evidence processed. I'm guessing that video footage time stamp etc may have also played a role in putting together their timeline.

So great to hear they have the DNA evidence. Have no idea how his attorney could talk way out of that. You are right-- I never realized how long it takes to properly solve a case.
