A New Jersey woman who had been
missing since Christmas Eve was found on Wednesday, but escaped from police custody after being taken to a local hospital to be checked while being held on outstanding warrants, officials said.
East Orange police found Destiny Owens at about 1:10 p.m. on South Maple Avenue and determined she had outstanding warrants in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania, a spokeswoman said.
Owens, an East Orange resident, is described as 5-foot-6 and about 130 pounds.
“I’m definitely worried about my daughter’s safety,” Tamika Owens, Owens’ mother said by phone Thursday. “I’m confused and shocked. I know Destiny is out there somewhere traumatized and scared.”
