NJ NJ - Mindy Jordan, 46, missing from cruise ship off Atlantic City, 11 May 2008

  • #161
He says she fell on something on the deck below and he tried to save her. But, NCL says she fell from the balcony straight into the water. :waitasec:

This one has me puzzled.

Also, in my experience, you cannot lock someone into their stateroom.

Bingo!
Browneyes,
It couldn't have happened both ways.
I think you found the golden egg.

Browneyes...............I think you've got it!

Jorge Caputo didn't know that there were surveillance cameras in the corridors and on the outside the ship, that would capture his movements and Mindy falling overboard.

Caputo had a story ready - that they had been "clowning around" and Mindy tried to climb from one balcony to the other, and fell, first onto something below and then losing her grip and falling into the water. His story doesn't match what the video captured - Mindy falling straight into the ocean.

Something doesn't add up.....................

This whole thing just doesn't add up for me. :bang:

I'd love to be the one that "got it"...it'd be a first for me!!

I think you are correct.

Good catch Browneyes!

Or he needed to explain an injury that would be discovered if they ever find her body.

Personally, I think the cameras were off sync or something. I think she went overboard before he even went over to his friends cabin. I'll be curious as the what they say and I hope they don't lie for this jerk.

Ahhhh, adjoining doors, interesting thought.

http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0805/14/ng.01.html

GRACE: Miss Horton, do you believe what they are saying about the video?

HORTON: I believe what they`re saying but I think the terminology of it -- well, it does show her going over the railing. But then when my niece called and just said, well, could -- you know, first of all, we would like to see a copy of that video. Does it show her climbing to the opposite cabin?

And they said, well, that the camera isn`t set up in a way to really do that. That they`re taking, for verification, the word of these other people which is Mr. Caputo and their -- his traveling companions.

GRACE: To John Lucich.

HORTON: Other police -- if she just went over the railing, and she was in the room by herself, how come they -- how could they immediately pick up the phone and call for help? Do you understand what I`m saying?

GRACE: That`s an absolute -- yes, I do. How would they have even known? I understand.

HORTON: How would they know she went over? If she accidentally -- even if she was planning on surprising them and trying it or something, whatever case may be, I mean, if you wanted to go with that scenario, which I don`t believe that either. It doesn`t quite.

GRACE: Are they making it very clear, Miss Horton, that the boyfriend was in a different cabin?

HORTON: Yes. They said that they have a video of him leaving their own cabin and going next door.

GRACE: Was there an adjoining door?

HORTON: They did not say. They just said that they had cameras in the corridor and they had video of him leaving their room and going into theirs.

I agree! I can't wait to see what happens with this story.

I'm gonna wonder what you guys are talking about every time I go out on that darn thing.

I watched both Greta and Nancy Grace tonight, and on Greta it was briefly stated that the couple that were with Mindy and Jorge were friends of Mindy's. So, I can't see them lying for Jorge.

I wonder if those surveillance cameras are date/time stamped?

So...wait...he wasn't in the room with her when she went overboard?! What?!

He says she fell and hit something and he went to help her when she went overboard. But the NCL video shows she went straight into the water...something is not right here.

I finally watched the Greta video after suffering tech problems last night. Poor Mindy's friend who was taking this cruise because she had been suffering from a illness and needed to relax, etc. What a nightmare for him/her.

(snip)

Meanwhile, passengers said Caputo frantically sought help.
"I was standing in front of my cabin with a cabin steward, and I heard him say, 'My wife just fell overboard!' " said Marilyn Manchester of Montville, Conn.
"The cabin steward responded, 'For real?' To hear those words - my heart just sank."
Manchester had just seen the couple at dinner, noting they did not appear to have been drinking.
Passenger Archie Rutledge said, "Everyone in a uniform rushed to the left rear quarter of the ship and they were observing. There was a sense of alarm and focus." The ship stayed in the area, off Atlantic City, about four hours. Caputo "kept asking the crew, 'Did you find her?' " said Sharon Hughes, 61, of upstate Oneonta.

You may be right...He was trying to explain an injury on her body if found. Why lie if you were not there? If you were not there, how do you even know that she has gone overboard? He had to have been in the room. Perhaps, he flung her body over the balcony (from the inside) and the cameras didn't pick it up. After all, she was very small. Maybe, she was dead when he threw her off.
