NJ NJ - Mindy Jordan, 46, missing from cruise ship off Atlantic City, 11 May 2008

After seeing the partition between balconies, I think it would be virtually impossible to climb from balcony to balcony. There doesn't look like there's anything to hold onto, except for the railing. And I don't see any place where a person could get a toe hold for support. It would be a sheer drop to the ocean below.

You are exactly right Leila...that's the way it has been on all the cruise ships I have been on and I have cruised on this very ship. There is really nothing but the railing and I don't see how you could even think of slipping around the partition while hanging onto the railing. :snooty:

I don't think that she tried to flee. Hell, she could have screamed her head off. That's what I would have done. This guy threw her overboard, IMO.

Yep! The walls are pretty thin on most ships.

Have I missed it or have we seen any statements from the couple they were traveling with??? :waitasec:

I don't get it. Just from the photos, she is way more attractive than her boyfriend. It sounds like she had a good job. He beat her so bad that she needed reconstructive surgery??? Why would she (a) stay with him after that, and (b) go on a cruise with him? Maybe, I am way too paranoid, but the first thought would be that this guy wants to throw me overboard. Maybe, she felt safe with her friends staying in the next room...If so, she was very naive...

I haven't seen statements from them. I bet that the police are keeping this couple's testimony under wraps.

I think it's pretty telling that we haven't heard any statements from them. Wow, he didn't waste a minute of the trip before getting rid of her. Just 3 hours from shore....

Nancy Grace covered this last night, and I bet she does a follow-up on tonight's program. If there's any forth-coming news out of Burmuda, she might have it. Greta might also cover it, now that we're between primaries.

At the very least, I see a wrongful death suit by her family against him and the cruise line. The cruise line thing might not stick, but him, well..........there's proof he's an abuser. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what happened here.

These guys,.......they think everyone is stupid. Their BS works on their victim, but it doesn't cut it for the rest of the world.

Ggrrr

I haven't read this whole thread, but what if this lady was trying to climb to the other balcony b/c her BF was threatening her inside their cabin w/ some sort of weapon and she was trying to escape? I guess my first thought was that he bodily threw her overboard, but there could have been a reason she might have been trying to get to the next balcony that had nothing to do with being stupid, drunk, etc.

Hi english...hope you are feeling better today. :blowkiss:

I hope if your scenario is right, that someone heard him threatening her.

This sounds like a more reasonable scenerio to me, if there is even any truth to the story at all. She would have had to be in fear of losing her life anyway, if she was desperate enough to try that!

*sigh* So very sad and not understandable to those who have never been in the position. i haven't and it is hard to imagine putting up with such behaviour. :(
I have been in abusive relationships but I realized at one point that I was the one with the problem. I worked hard to get my self esteem back and then took the situation and turned it around to help other hurting women.

I will say that most of the women who go back or stay with jerks feel that they have no choices. But the ones the hardest for me to understand are professional women who make good money and still stay.

I look at this woman and she is a whole lot smaller then that man! He could have slapped her off the deck.

I do not believe any 47 year old women of normal inteligence would be jumping from balcany to balcany on a cruise ship. The boyfriend maybe trying to sell this story but it is unexceptable if the cruise ship line is selling this explanation unless they have footage showing this. I spoke to my mother who has been on many many cruises and she said falling overboard is not easy to do. She said climbing from balcany to balcany is just not something any rational adult would do. I think the boyfriend has a lot of explaining to do. Incidently the weather was terrible here in NJ when this occured so it seems odd to me that this women would be out on the balcany by chose.

Whoa! Three hours??!! Yikes!

So now the cruise line is saying that the bf left the room and the victim didn't go over the railing for 7 minutes after he left.

How did he know she went over and immediately tried to help her, as he claimed earlier? How did he know she was clowning around as he stated before as well?

Something doesn't sound right to me.

The film JUST shows her going over the railing, that's all. They didn't show it, it's just the cruise line's statement.

Right, that's getting to your cabin, eating, back to cabin, then throw overboard. Check!

He was probably drunk before he even got on the Ship. Cruises make great vacations. But standing at the back of the Ship, you can easily see how anyone could just "accidently" drown, the rails aren't high at all.

If he was in the next room, then how did he know she fell? I think the cruiseline has it backwards. I think he left his friends room and went into his then Mindy fell.

http://wcbstv.com/topstories/woman.overboard.death.2.724388.html

The sequence of events is as follows:

* Jordan and Jorge Caputo dined at the Garden Café with the couple they were traveling with and then returned to their assigned adjacent staterooms at approximately 7:28 p.m.

* At 7:36 p.m., Jorge left his stateroom and went to join his friends in their stateroom next door. From that moment on, Mindy is alone in her stateroom.

* At 7:53 p.m., surveillance cameras from the exterior of the ship capture Mindy falling overboard from her balcony, straight into the water. Shortly thereafter, an emergency call was made from the friends' stateroom and Jorge is seen exiting to seek help.

* At 7:57 p.m., a man overboard announcement is made and the ship's crew began lifesaving operations, including the launch of two rescue boats.

Several things need clarification. First of all the story that Mindys Mother claims she was told from the boyfriend is not the same as this. It is possible that the boyfriend and the other couple were on the balcany of the other couples and saw Mindy fall from her balcany then the boyfriend ran back to his room to try and save her while the other couple called for help. The problems with this scenerio is it is not what Mindys mother is saying she was told from the boyfriend and why in the world would a 47 yr. old women attempt to climb over balacanys on a cruise ship?. IF that tape only shows Mindy falling over board it is not telling us anything we don't already know. If it shows her climbing over the railing by herself that is a different thing.

Thanks for these links. Playing the devils advocate here but one thing that makes me wonder if she actually did fall off the deck is that so many passengers reported that it was extremely rough weather and that so many people got sick that they ran out of dramamine. Her son stated in the above video that she is only 98 lbs. Could it be possible that a huge gust of wind lifted her and she went over?
Years ago during our lunch break some friends and I were walking back from a restaurant. There was a really thin guy walking between us. The wind was blowing like crazy and believe it or not a huge gust came up and almost blew the guy away! I had never seen anything like it before.
I need more info. With the crazy weather we have been having it may have been possible.
