NJ - Mystery drones seen nightly

I agree.

EM makes a good point that the drones are preferable over loss of life in the fighter jets.

Financially the military and commercial use of drones makes sense as well.

I just really hadn’t let the fact that I know we didn’t have control over the activity above our homes sink in before all this.

All imo
The F series fighters have been riddle with billions in cost overruns.

Smart to use drones, no life loss. We sent millions in drones to Ukraine. Moo

As a rule I would usually take something like this with a grain of salt. I would think that its all a bunch of smoke and mirrors. But something is very off. I really feel it in my gut. Like this is just the start of something very big. And I'm don't know about how most are feeling but I'm here to tell you I'm really worried and not ashamed to say scared!

Don’t be scared!

It is only the feeling of being pulled into the wild west of aviation future and further commercial domination of our lives. It is the start of something very big, imo.

Some of the details are worrying like what it will be like with local and interstate drone activity going on over our heads and what regulations will there be or not be.

But technology and automation saves lives and money.

As @Simply Southern pointed out the cost overruns for the fighter jets are in the billions when drones can be utilized.

It’s both exciting and irritating.

Will drones solve logistics for affordable commerce, will it ease the truck congestion and pollution, provide careers for operators, offer clean entertainment at events instead of hazardous and harmful littering from firework shows, be able to be sent in to the wilderness or open sea for rescues, could they help fight forest fires?

All imo

I just found this article about drones spotted near military bases around the U.S.
MSN

JMO: I have seen videos where it looks like drones are spraying something at the ground.

Do you have a link to the video and it's location?

Agriculture is one of the stated major users of drones so spraying would be one of those tasks for the drones, imo.

I’m right there with you and I’m not sure why. Read an interesting comment someone made elsewhere, that I think might explain why some of us are scared. Were you in the NY/NJ area during 9/11? I was and remember it like it was yesterday. I think anyone impacted by the attack on the twin towers suffers from some level of post-traumatic stress and these drones are triggering a reaction.

If these drones are legit then why don't the owners call law enforcement and admit that they are the reason that people are concerned about their drones? It looks like these drones cost a small fortune and I'm sure the owners do not want their drones shot down. I'm telling you that someone is going to get tired of this whole show and shoot one or two down eventually. JMO

I somewhat agree and somewhat disagree.

I’m a New Yorker. My daughter was working less than a mile from the WTC on 9/11. She was covered in soot but eventually walked home safely. I did have 10 people I knew who died there, so I agree 100% with the lingering PTSD and things which still trigger me.

However, although I am unsure about what exactly is happening, I feel less dread about this.

As you remember, 9/11 was a systemic shock to the city and all its inhabitants and commuters, but Al-Qaeda’s actions beforehand were hidden from us.

I don’t yet feel that there is terror here because what is happening is too overt. I cannot imagine terrorists giving us any preview or warning—-it’s their surprise tactics that make them grotesquely effective.

JMO and experience.

The Federal Aviation Administration has temporarily banned drone flights over nearly two dozen New Jersey communities.

The restrictions are in effect until Jan. 17.

This crap show has gone on long enough.

It burns me up that China has bought up farmland all over the United States. And now the drones have been seen spraying something at the ground near Military locations. This spray could literally be anything from fertilizer for the farms to biological weapons. JMO

Wow, Arkay. Up close and very personal for you. I’m across the water in NJ and on the water, so those views will always be ingrained in my memory. I understand what you mean about the overtness, good point. Hopefully we’ll have answers soon! Maybe.

I agree. It’s a very different situation. I think the fear might coming from the feeling of vulnerability. 9/11 showed us just how vulnerable we actually are.

My family is in NJ and my daughter has been seeing and recording drones almost every night. Typically about 6 at a time. She definitely feels vulnerable.

For Seph Divine, 34, another member of the drone hunting group who lives in Eugene, Oregon, it feels as if it’s up to citizen sleuths to solve the mystery. He said he tries to be a voice of reason, encouraging people to fact check their information, while also asking probing questions.''
(Shortened for focus)

Well, I sure hope Seph Divine turns his attention to OUR drone/UFO sightings here in Oregon. I came over here after reading about it in the news to see if anyone else in Oregon is having the same issue as in NJ. No one has mentioned it so I thought I would.

Multiple pilots in Oregon reported to traffic control that they saw unidentified red lights zooming around. Up and down at all altitudes. Then, and this is the crazy part, they shot "way up" to about 50,000 feet! They also move at extreme speeds according to the pilots. I tried Googling to see how high drones can go, but I couldn't get Google to understand that I didn't mean "according to FAA regulations" (400 ft), I want to know how high can a darn drone go??? Is it 50,000 feet? Because if it is, I'm thinking it's someone screwing around with drones. But if they can't physically go that high... Well, let's just say I don't want to get beamed up and have my cavities examined, IYKWIM.

So does anyone know how high a drone can actually go? Oh, and Tim Gallaudet, an oceanographer and retired rear admiral in the U.S. Navy said "Nothing that we make can move like they were describing". Also they are saying they aren't Starlink because "Starlink is pretty easy to observe and verify because the satellites seem to move in a pretty predictable orbit."

Here's an article that most probably can't access due to needing a subscription. What I have above I mostly paraphrased from the article.

''Legally speaking, drone flights are bound by specific regulations that dictate their maximum altitude. In the United States, as well as many other countries, the law sets a strict limit of 400 feet above ground level. Despite this legal ceiling, drones can technically reach altitudes up to 10 kilometers (33,000 feet). However, individual limitations, such as battery life and controller connection strength, influence each drone's actual operational altitude.''

''In an ideal world with no pesky regulations and restrictions, you might find yourself wondering about the physical limits of your drone's flight capabilities, rather than legal ones. So, let's explore just how high a drone can fly in a perfect, limit-free scenario. Drones equipped with spinning propellers have a physical height limit of approximately 10 kilometers (33,000 feet).

Why? Well, as you ascend into higher altitudes, the air becomes thinner, providing less force to keep the drone afloat by pushing against the propeller blades. It's a battle against the diminishing density of the air.''

Thank you for answering my question. So, ~33,000 ft. That makes me wonder if the pilots that thought the lights rose to ~50,000 ft were off by ~17,000 ft. I supposed it's possible... but 17,000 ft isn't exactly a few hundred yards. It's also ~ 1/3 of what they thought, which is a fairly large amount. Hmmmm....

Here’s an article with additional information on the article you shared.

Check out this article from Burlington County Times:

FAA bans drones in these SJ towns citing security reasons

The FAA has published another 30 temporary drone flight restrictions over critical infrastructure in New York. The move effectively bans recreational (but not commercial) drones from flying within one nautical mile of New York City and Long Island electrical power stations.

Drones have "been taken down" by Air Force personnel in recent years, said Ann Stefanek, an Air Force spokeswoman. She declined to provide further details, citing operational security concerns.

Yet legal concerns and worries about debris causing damage or death on the ground have hamstrung the response.”
