Family searching for 20-year-old who went missing last week on trip to New York
upload_2021-2-22_23-15-9.jpeg

A 20-year-old Passaic County woman went missing last week after she left for a party in Brooklyn, New York, her family said Monday.

Nyrah Barner Curry left her home in Paterson on Feb. 18, and has not spoken with family or friends since, according to her father, Kevin Barner.

Barner said her phone’s location services showed the device was in New York at some point after she left New Jersey. But the phone has since been turned off, he said.

Curry is 5-feet, 2-inches tall and weighs about 100 pounds. Anyone with information is asked to call Paterson police at 973-321-1111 or the New York City Police Department at 212-694-7781.

NJ family devastated over daughter's mysterious disappearance

Nyrah Barner Curry told her family she was heading to Brooklyn from Paterson for a party on Feb. 11. They have not seen her since.

The only clue they have is that her cellphone was found in Manhattan.

Her brother, Elijahwan Curry, said he knows the last text messages he received from her were actually from her.

He said he thinks as time passed, someone else started responding.

That part about someone else possibly having her phone and responding really creeps me out. Before I could see people not using a passcode, but with biometrics (fingerprint or face recognition), Snowden revelations, and Apple practically begging you to set a passcode during set up - this should be happening far less.

it's also possible - if it was an iPhone and not erased after 10 tries - to have been guessed if Nyrah used an "easy" number like her birthday, address number, or other important number.

knowing such info would suggest someone she knew or was familiar with (not a stranger abduction).

The article quoted above says her phone was “found” in Manhattan - maybe they meant pinged in Manhattan.

Did she make it to the party?

It is awful that families have to fight for media coverage. Their devastation is palpable, I would automatically put runaway on not just the backburner but a backburner on somebody else's oven. This reminds me of the missing young man from Drew University in Madison NJ, Ajay Dah. No media coverage at all in the beginning with devastated family and friends. Just the fact that she has disappeared off of all social media is a huge red flag.

Nyrah Barner Curry: Missing Paterson NJ woman has family worried

Note: I’m still unsure what the exact date she went missing is...I’ve read Feb 11, 15, & 18.

According to the article linked above:
Nyrah Barner Curry, left home for a party at a hotel in Brooklyn on Feb. 11 and has yet to return.

During a virtual press conference on Monday, the woman’s brother, Elijahwan Curry, said he received text messages from his sister until about Feb. 15. After that, he said, he got additional texts from her phone, but said they didn’t seem like they were coming from her, based on their brevity and content.

The brother also said Curry’s social media pages have been active since her disappearance, but he said he thinks someone other than her had accessed the accounts. Family members urged anyone who might be holding the young woman against her will to set her free.

Paterson police officials said they first were contacted about Curry’s disappearance on Feb. 17 and interviewed her family members two days after that.

SEEN HER? Missing Paterson Woman, 20, Wasn't One To Run Off, Frightened Loved Ones Say

And, according to the article from this link:
Loved ones believe Nyrah Barner Curry of Paterson was headed to a party in Brooklyn when her grandmother said she saw her get into what looked like an Uber.
That was nearly two weeks ago.

Her brother said Curry, 20, texted with him on Valentine's Day but that subsequent texts later didn't sound like her.
The phone was last pinged to Manhattan, then it went dead, family members said.
She hasn't made any social media posts even though Curry's father, Keith Barner, says she "loves" Facebook, Instagram and other platforms.

'Please let my daughter go' — Paterson dad pleas for safe return

And, this one has differences in it as well:
The family of Nyrah Barner Curry, 20, said they haven't seen her since Feb. 11 or 12.

Her father, Kevin Barner, told New Jersey 101.5 on Tuesday that her friends said she was attending a party in Brooklyn on Feb. 11, although her grandmother said Curry left the house on the 12 and got into a car, which they believe was an Uber.

Barner said her phone's signal was last tracked to Manhattan.

During an online news conference on Monday, her brother Elijahwan Curry said he texted with his sister on Feb. 14. Elijahwan Curry said he received more texts from his sister after that date but isn't sure that they were from her based on her responses.
