GUILTY NM - Five Griego family members murdered in their Albuquerque home, 20 Jan 2013

Something tells me we will be reading about her in the future.

Here is the idea her parents should think about. I think she should postpone dating for while.

And her parents need to sleep behind locked, bullet proof doors. It's only a matter of time, I tell you. Milk ain't clean, there.

I was prepared for no charges on the gf but I agree with ya'll, this girl bears watching, closely.

Scary

I know this is unpopular decision, but I DO think that the violent games have a very negative effect on SOME kids.

My son played and still plays these kinds of games. I don't think the games by themselves will turn someone into a killer. But I do believe they can exacerbate someones mental issues. JMO

ITA! It's not the video games alone. And some kids who play them will be ok.

Something else - they all kept saying he "did it" and then went to the church. That isn't what is being reported. He hung out with the gf all day long and didn't get to the church until Saturday evening. Nobody brought that up or even asked about it.

JMHO

Yes, he shot mom and siblings at 1 am, Dad at 5-6 am, then spent the day with gf, and then went to the church around 8 pm.

Per the LE presser.

ITA - wish we had more clarification on what went on all day Saturday. Its all fuzzy. Last night they said he went straight to the church - but we've all read where he just "hung out" with the gf all day Saturday - so which is it?

Plus, the texts between the two. And the picture. For the Uncle to say that she "egged him on" is just a blame game - kinda like the old "if I told you to jump off the bridge" type of thing.

Did she threaten to break up with him if he didn't do it? I highly doubt that. Plus I read in just one article yesterday that she hung out with him AND HER PARENTS all day Saturday. I'm questioning that - until we get some type of LE confirmation.

Maybe she just didn't believe him - thought he was just "smack talking" type of thing - but then the picture comes back to mind.

Yeah, right now, details being offered in various articles seems contradictory. I think when the dust settles and the new and shiny wears off this case a bit for the press, then we will start to see the true details emerge of exactly what the gf knew, how much, and when and what NG's Saturday looked like.

Sadly, when a case is "hot" we are seeing more and more often a rush to scoop the competition and we end up with all sorts of inaccurate or contradictory info.

Wait - didn't we read that dad had taken this kid to shooting ranges? If the Uncle was this close to the family wouldn't he have know that? Uncle said they were very close - were together at Xmas and both his (Uncle's) and the mom's b-day were coming up and they had plans to spend it together.

Ok back

Showing the press conference - about the violent video games.

Uncle saying he WAS NOT into these games.

Drew talking to the reporter that pretty much read from the charging document. Reporter saying that the church described him (kid) as a quiet boy, deeply involved in the church, was a wrestler. Day after the killings - pastor saying he was different, very dark - something was different. Father didn't want him playing those games. Was very sheltered by dad - was a very young 15 yr old. LE is saying he was involved in the games.

Drew talking about the confusion of the video games and if there is no coorelation to such.

Lisa Bloom arguing that there is research showing these games do impact kids.

Uncle says he doesn't know if he played them or not. They weren't allowed in the home. Saying the boy mentioned the games only in passing. Repeating about the Wal-Mart being the end of Grand Theft Auto. Talking about how many people missed the "cues". He's attacking the police and the media.

Drew saying he is against him being charged as an adult - especially if he is treatable. (I disagree)

Commercial.

Gosh, so do I. No way should this kid ever be let out of prison.

BTW, someone mentioned something about the uncle not be let into the house. I don;t think that's what was meant. The uncle doesn't know if the nephew ever played such games but he knows that such games weren't allowed in the house. (So if he did play them it was elsewhere).

Really? Blame a 12 year old girl?

I guess once again it is the femme fatale and the weak male.

The poor menz! :ohoh:

aha! Thanks that makes perfect sense.

forgive me I have not seen the interview with this uncle but he sounds like a an [unusual person] based on what I am hearing.

I see what you did there, lol.

This is kind of ironic. Especially if he had decided to shoot up the church afterall.

"The New Mexico teen accused of killing his family and plotting to randomly gun down Wal-Mart shoppers spent much of the day after the early morning slayings at his church, wandering the campus as dozens of Sunday school teachers were being trained on how to deal with a shooter, a security official said."

Just a little FYI

Uncle (same uncle as last night) is on Piers Morgan tonight. Anderson Cooper had the security/LE guy that was working with the Sunday school teachers and the one that took NG back to the house and the one that called 911 on earlier.

Uncle tonight is saying that dad had taught his eldest son (NG) how to handle the guns because of the protection factor and that just the sheer nature of dad's work dealt with some seamly people so the family did need that type of protection. Strange that last night the same uncle said he wasn't aware that there were any guns in the house.

Also saw the uncle on Piers Morgan. Uncle seem to be most upset at how this 15 year old is portrayed by the authorities, and that sheriff claimed that 15 year old had a plan to go kill people at Walmart.
I presume sheriff is going by what 15 year old told police. Even if Walmart killing spree was a part of a video game, how does that change anything?
And how does the uncle want press be describing someone accused of killing his parents and little siblings?

  • #195
So what's the latest on the guns in that teenager's home? Whose were they? How were they obtained?

  • #196
I was A-okay with the family statement and their plea that people not simply think NG was what he did that night. I was sympathetic to their shock and grief.

That said, and while admitting I have not seen this uncle on the talk show circuit, I find this uncle's presence in the media spotlight to be wearing thin. If the family wants the public to respect their privacy and give them time to mourn and absorb, why all the media appearances by this uncle who seems (by accounts I read here) rather wishy washy on the facts of the case?

Ialso wanted to add that Flourish (I believe) posted upthread that none of the Grand Theft Auto games contains shooting spree at Walmart or any other mall/megastore. My DH also went through a GTA phase and I have seen hours upon hours of this games various versions and can attest that series of games is just as she described above.

No word yet on whether dad could own them as a self confessed (allegedly) ex felon? And no word yet on what the criminal history of dad was that caused him to feel so drawn to helping those following the wrong path once he got squared away and straightened up?

  • #199
I think father might have no felonies on his record, in which case he could legally purchase guns.
And if he couldn't, his wife, if she had a clean record, could purchase guns. That's legal.

thanks jjenny, I personally don't have a dog in that fight but I do know it was being debated a few days back.

I know you are correct in the BBM, as the spouse of a convicted felon (18 year old's idiotic mistake he has to live with) and a former weapon owner/FOID card carrier.
