Jesse Hanes again sentenced to life in prison, this time in federal court

Already having been sentenced to that term in state court, Hanes — who shot and killed Hatch Police officer José Chavez in August 2016 — received a similar sentence Thursday in a federal case related to that incident.

Hanes was on trial in federal court on carjacking and firearms charges. A federal judge also ordered him to pay almost $40,000 in restitution in handing down the sentence.
