I'm having a huge problem with the timeline and when she was reported missing. IMO
So do I. I’m sure this club is filling up fast.

The sheriff says the girl’s mother called 911 around 6 p.m. to report her missing. Investigators say they have no reason to believe Renezmae was taken by a family member.

When pressed on the man who police say they arrested Sunday night possibly in connection to this case, they wouldn’t say much.

“Right now, we have a gentleman in custody and he was arrested by the Rio Arriba Sheriff’s Office on three outstanding warrants of Bernalillo County,” Sheriff James Lujan said.

The sheriff’s office and the FBI would not name that man, nor say what, if any connection he may have to the girl or the neighborhood.

The sheriff says there is no indication that anybody saw someone approach the girl in her front yard. Investigators are hoping there is surveillance out there that will provide clues to the disappearance.

What happened to this precious little girl? I have a terrible feeling. God, I hope to be wrong!

Monday afternoon, the girl's mom, relatives and friends gathered in a remote area a few blocks from the girl's home to search for clues or suspicious evidence that might help them find out what happened to the girl. Many volunteered their own ATVs to help in the search.

"I guess they enjoyed coming up here for whatever reason, so they thought it was a good idea to start here," said Pablo Montoya, with the Española Fire Department. "They’ve kinda taken it amongst themselves to start searching. I don’t think there’s any detailed specific information leading us to any one place yet."

Police said the girl’s family is cooperating and they don't believe her parents were involved. They also said this is an active investigation and their current focus is to find the child.

"We will follow every single lead, we will leave no stone unturned to bring Renezmae home," said James Langenberg, a special agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigations.

"If you go and review your video cameras and you see something, give us a call. If you see a pretty little girl that looks just like this, give us a call and we’ll look into it," Lujan said.

Multiple agencies are working to find Calzada, including the FBI, New Mexico State police the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office and more.

The Red Cross has more than 100 volunteers handing out food and drinks to those searching for the child.

Anyone who say anything, no matter how minor they believe it was, is asked to contact Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s Office at 505-753-5555.

From the article you linked ...

Police said the girl’s family is cooperating and they don't believe her parents were involved. They also said this is an active investigation and their current focus is to find the child.
So who is the guy? They certainly didn't waste any time in arresting him on outstanding warrants.

Agreed. I can’t figure out the connection with him, but it has to be something.

Are the parents still together/married? If not, maybe a stepdad or boyfriend? Uncle, cousin, or neighbor? Babysitter? Total stranger driving by?

If her parents weren't involved, then who was watching her that day? She was last seen @ 9:30 am, not reported missing until dinner time? What was happening the rest of the day? Who was responsible for her then?

All I can figure is that maybe the man they arrested was supposed to be watching her?

Baffling isn’t it? I wish we had a little more information! I pray this angel will be found safe.

September 10th Morning Rush: Search continues for missing Española girl, possible suspect in custody
1. Federal agents are continuing their search for missing 5-year-old girl Renezmae Calzada. Authorities say one man is in custody and connected to the case. Renezmae was last seen Sunday morning in Espanola in her front yard. Authorities can’t confirm if she was kidnapped, but they do believe her life is in danger. A widespread search for the girl began Monday.

(BBM - I think that may be a misprint and should read "possibly connected to the case.")

ITA. Your link from kiro7 clarifies that, "Deputies have detained a possible suspect "on unrelated outstanding warrants" but have not charged anyone in connection with the girl's disappearance, KOB reported."

They mention 'possible suspect' quite a few times. Even in the title of their article. Nice and tidy.

Española girl, 5, missing two days; suspect in custody

Searchers head out over open land north of Española Valley High School in search of missing 5-year-old Renezmae Calzada Monday afternoon. (Eddie Moore/Albuquerque Journal)

[...]

“We’re pretty sure it wasn’t a parental abduction,” said Lujan.

Renezmae was reported missing by her mother about 6 p.m. Sunday, authorities said. The delay between when she was last seen and when she was reported missing is part of “an ongoing investigation,” according to the sheriff.

[...]

Shortly before 3 p.m. Monday, members of the girl’s immediate and extended family had gathered with other people on El Llano Road north of Española High School to begin a search of the open country of mostly bare hills and gullies east of town.

The group had numerous private all-terrain vehicles, and Española Fire Department ATVs were also being used. Several people just took off walking through the brush close to the road, then over a hill into the brown landscape.

[...]

Pablo Montoya of the Fire Department said the group was “just doing kind of a search from some information gathered from the family.” Montoya added that authorities otherwise had no details suggesting a specific area to look for the missing girl.

James Langenberg, chief of the FBI’s New Mexico division, said at an afternoon news conference that the FBI had sent “scores” of agents and other personnel, including specialists in evidence response, behavioral analysis and tracking social media to Española to assist in the case.

[...]

Langenberg said it was not unusual for the FBI to get involved in an Amber Alert disappearance. “We reached out to the sheriff’s office and offered our assistance,” he said.

[...]

The Red Cross was also part the search effort, providing food and water for searchers from a base at the Ohkay Owingeh casino. The Red Cross said in a news release that it was also assisting family members “directly involved with this ongoing missing person case.”
