If they are unable to compare Schmidt, Duncan, Anderson, Walcott, and Riffin, then why are Schmidt, Duncan, and Walcott on the rule-out list?

Good question, Carl. Glad to answer this since I had the same question early on.
Not sure of the details surrounding Schmidt and Walcott, but I do know that Duncan was ruled out on dental inconsistencies early. DNA was not yet complete when this dental comparison was made back in 2010. Many rule outs are based on scientific methods (dentals, physical descriptions, etc) available at the time of request. But investigators see mistakes made too many times. For example: Dental records could have been misfiled, height entered as inches converted in error to feet and inches when put into the data base, i.e. 57 inches becomes 5'7", or the last known weight and height is from a four year old drivers license.
Whatever the circumstance, when there is any doubt investigators like our friend Rick requests that a DNA comparison be conducted once samples are entered. Rick has also shared that there have been instances when even DNA submitted by family members did not match their loved one -- because the family never told the victims siblings that their sister/brother was adopted or had a different father. Sometimes these secrets are reluctantly revealed during his investigation, but he has to consider the possibility that family secrets can die with the parents and make DNA comparisons impossible.

Rick has not shared with me his reasoning behind still pursuing Schmidt and Walcott's DNA. If he does, I will share.

Has anyone considered Connie Gail Minchaca? There is very little information available about her case, but her height, location, size and general facial features stuck out for me. She disappeared from her home in Napa County, California in 1978 when she was 17. Since there are no clues as to why she disappeared, I do not know what kind of lifestyle she was leading or if she was prone to running away. Since she disappeared 8 years before this Doe was found, it is possible she gave birth in that time frame.

Althea Rogers seems to have a similar pointy nose and similar to the reconstruction. She hitchhiked so she led a high risk lifestyle. Not sure how she would have ended up in a cave in Nevada.
https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/9085/344?current_page=physical_characteristics

Althea's facial features are very similar. But I do see some differences that would rule her out. Big for me is that Althea had a hysterectomy scar and our cave girl still had her uterus. Also, she is listed at 64 inches, three inches shorter than our jane doe who was approximately 5'7".

I've really thought about the idea that this jane doe may have either had mental illness (bag lady mentality) choosing to live in this cave, or that she was used in human trafficking and being held in this cave -- there was a wooden partition (sort of like a gate) at the opening of the cave - she could have been left there to die by her captors/john. BUT... since at autopsy our jane doe tested negative for drugs and alcohol, the lack of drugs in her system makes me think not. I've found myself looking for missing persons who had a history of disease (mental or something that might lead to stomach ulcers). This reality is different from the assumed life style of a person living a wild lifestyle as a prostitute. If she was in pain and a 'problem' to her john, why wouldn't he just let her od? What struck me as so sad is that she would have been in considerable pain with the extensive stomach ulcer that she had - the investigator shared with me that these types of ulcers are usually seen in patients who were previous burn victims (she has no evidence of burn scars); or a person living an extremely stressed life. Yet, she had no meds to treat her pain - no evidence of prescriptions or OTC drugs found in the cave. There were no food cans or water jugs found in the cave either. It may be that she went to this cave on purpose to die, not being able to live with the pain any longer. Whoever she is, her story is very sad and reflective of pain filled life.

I just noticed that there is now a photo for Sherry Yates in her MP casefile.

At first glance, she seems a reasonable possible for Antelope Cave Woman (although I'm not sure that her nose is as prominent. - Could be, but it's hard to tell for sure from a frontal view).

Her dentals and fingerprints are "available and entered" though, so one would think that they would be on to this if it was a match.

Since Sherry had a tattoo, would that rule her out?

Yes, it probably would. Thanks for pointing that out. I didn't catch that.

I know she was mummified but I wonder how big Sherry's tattoo was. If it was just a small star on her hand, maybe it wouldn't be visible?

I've seen the PM photo. Her skin is dried out, but pretty much intact except for on the right side of her face. So I would expect the tattoo to still be visible if she did have a tattoo.

Also bumping up the side-view reconstruction of the victim.

New MP that I recently entered. NamUs MP # 34617 Vickie Smock. Her daughter and parents are trying to figure out if she ever made it to NV

Vickie was last seen in Salt Lake City, UT in 1986. She was dropped off at the Greyhound Bus Station, with an unknown male companion, by her father and planned to go to Wendover, NV to work as a cocktail waitress at The Red Garter Hotel & Casino. She hasn't been seen since. Vickie's family states that it is very unusual for her to leave and not be in contact.

I was just looking at that and immediately thought of this case. Here's hoping!
Did you actually speak to the family and mention this JD to them by chance?

No, I didn't mention her to them. Right now they don't know what happened to her and if she even made it to NV. When they get DNA attached to the profile, I'll follow up

I hope it's her so they can have some closure.

It's so bizarre to me that a thread can have over 10k views and yet only 54 posts.

Has this Doe every been considered as a match for Mary Frances Gregory?

attachment.php

Missing Since: February 18, 1978 from Parry Sound, Ontario, Canada
DOB: May 27, 1958
Age: 19 YO
Height/Weight: 63in/111lbs
Hair: Dark blonde
Eyes: Hazel
Other: Has a mole on her waist; near-sighted and wore contact lenses at time of disappearance

Gregory was last seen by her family leaving her residence in Parry Sound, Ontario, Canada on February 18, 1978. She planned to vacation in Palo Alto, California and was traveling there by car with a male friend. Her friend told authorities that he dropped Gregory off at a bus station in Las Vegas, NV approximately ten days after they left Canada. Gregory never arrived at her destination and has not been heard from again. Gregory's friend said that he drove through New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, Colorado, Utah and Arizona before arriving in Nevada.

I wonder if she may have suffered from a mental disorder and had something of a break down, causing her companion to abandon her in Las Vegas. She may have become part of the homeless community in the city during the intervening years (a contributing factor to the difference in weight. She is described as wearing contacts at the time of her disappearance but if she was homeless, I'd imagine it might be difficult getting replacement lenses and she took to wearing glasses, like the Doe.

Namus now says "sample submitted - Tests complete". Hopefully we hear soon whether or not Vickie is a match.
