Her family put together a page for her here: http://www.geocities.com/mindyscandle/memories.html
I read the family page and they have been looking for her, but I don't know if these pictures were matched up or not. I wish there was a page of who she isn't.
This is a pic of one of her relatives, I think a nephew. Look at the nose:
picture.php

Do you know where this site might have moved to now that geocities is gone?

TIA.

What do you think of Melinda Karen Creech being a match for this girl?

....although I have always hoped that Melinda is alive and well out there somewhere.

http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/c/creech_melinda.html

The eye color for the UID is listed as hazel, otherwise there are a lot of similarities. It might be relatively easy to check-the UID has a full set of prints and dentals...I bet Melinda has a fingerprint card somewhere because of her juvie record.....

The cheekbones are way off. Melinda has very prominent cheeks, which I don't think that even malnutrition would eliminate. The Jane Doe has a much narrower face, no cheekbone definition, and a pointier nose. Also, her hair has a reddish tint. Melinda's hair has no red at all.

This Nevada Jane Doe is similar to Rhonda Stait (missing from New South Wales since 1979). Take a look at the photos side by side (I attached the url for both) and let me know if you guys think this is close. The height is different, so I could be way off...Jane Doe is listed as 5 ft 2 inches; R Stait is reported to be 5'8" when she disappeared. Can't find much specific dental on either.

I suppose there's enough time for her to get to the US, but it seems strange. Wish we could see Rhonda's ears.

I don't know why, but I keep coming across missing people from Australia that have similar features to this Henderson NV UID. Here is a second one that seems to match even better for height than R Stait. I dismissed her early on because of the hair coloring. However, in a separate search, I noted that the Henderson UID hair was initially identified as red. Take a look, see what you guys think...
This young woman's name is Sherrlynn Mitchell (missing from Victoria; since 1973)

It could be her. You can submit the missing Sherrlynn Leigh Mitchell as Henderson Nevada UID. Just asking the moderator for how to do it.

Thanks KLCD6520. I sent a message to Cubby. I'm new at this. Not sure how to preceed. Will wait for response.

There is a 'tips before submitting' sticky thread here in the UID forum. This is very helpful for you newbies new to submitting. If you are not comfortable submitting yourself there are a few seasoned WS'rs here who would most likely be very happy to submit for you, but will ask if you would like to do so yourself first.

Wish I knew how to put these pics side by side.

http://www.missingkids.com/photographs/AUCBnmpcc0005c1.jpg

Here is a quick look at the stats for both of these young women.
Heights: UID ~5'2"; SM is listed as 5'4"
Age: UID:16-20; SM was 16 in 1973
Dates: UID found in 1980; SM disappeared in 1973
Locations: UID found in NV; SM from Victoria, Australia

News articles from SM's family have her mom saying that Sherrlynn always spoke about traveling overseas. I know this is a stretch based on locations, but the face is so convincing to me.
I will reach out to LE to see if S Mitchell has been ruled out for this UID.

At first, I didn't get what you were seeing. But when I actually looked at them side-by-side, you can see that they do have very similar individual features.

Their lips are identical. Their chins are about the same size. They both have reddish hair with a widow's peak hairline. Their noses are pretty close, although Sherrlynn's nose is slightly wider at the tip. You can't accurately compare face width or eye spacing because Sherrlynn is turned a little more to her left in the photo than AGJD is. But nevertheless, AGJD seems to have wider-set eyes. Even though her eyes are closed, I am envisioning that she has Bette Davis eyes. (Cliche Alert!)

Overall, I don't think they are the same person. I tried superimposing the two photos over one another and couldnt get them to line up very well, even on a vertical plane. If you align their mouths, noses, and chins to each other, AGJD's eyes don't align well to Sherrlynn's eyes, and AGJD's Hairline sits slightly higher.

But don't let me dissuade you from calling it in if you think you have a match.

Per the Moderator's instruction, we can't put postmortems in open view, so I am putting the side-by-side at the link below with a warning.

Hey CarlK90245,
Really apprecaite you taking a close look at this. Your insight is great. Being that this is my first rodeo, I think the lips and the bone structure (shape of face, eye placement and bridge of nose) is why I think it is possible. Could be so off -- your feedback helps me sharpen my skills at face recognition.
Thank you!

Just to update: Sent possible match e-mail to Henderson detective in early May; no reply as of June 3 from the Nevada LE officer.

In my quest to locate dental records and a better photo of Sherrlynn Mitchell for comparison, I have established contact with a reporter at The Courier newspaper in Ballerat. This reporter (who has written feature articles about missing persons, including Sherrlynn) has given the investigating detective for SM's case our Henderson's jane doe information. The detective located in Melbourne is very excited about this lead and will be in touch.
I will keep all posted.

I took a look at this again, and I have changed my mind on this. I am more convinced than I was before that you may be on to something.

You all can try the superimposed image test for yourselves. I have intentionally sized and rotated the photos so that they are of equal size and rotation. If you go to the photos at the link below and drag the photos over one another, the photo being dragged will become transparent. You can compare the features by dragging them over one another.

Warning: Postmortem photo at Link
http://i1354.photobucket.com/albums...mparisons/2975578490045078242S600x600Q851.jpg

I had previously thought that there was a problem with the vertical spacing, but looking at it again, there is not a problem with the vertical spacing at all. AGJD has a little bit of a double chin in her photo which I had previously mistaken for bony chin structure. When I checked it before, I tried to align Sherilyn's chin to AGJD's double-chin, and that was why the alignment didn't look right. When you align their mouths and the tips of their noses, the vertical distance from nose to bony chin structure are the same, and AGJD's eyelashes line up to the bottoms of Sherrlynn's eyes, just as they should.

And the horizontal spacing differences are probably entirely attributable to the differences in angles at which the photos were taken.

Looking at the facial features Individually, the mouths match up perfectly. The noses match up exactly from the left eyebrow right down to the tip. The nasal alae (i.e., the outsides of the nostrils) match up exactly.

And the apparent difference in nose widths is probably attributable to a difference in lighting.

Another thing caught my attention. Take a look at both photos on their left cheek at mouth-level. There appears to be the same blemish on both women in the same location.

I really think you could be on to something, nola. You have a good eye.

BTW: I don't think it has been brought up yet, but her first name starts with an "S" to match the "S" tattoo.

So here's my theory: I think Sherrlynn was abducted from Ballerat in 1973 in route to or from the rail station where she had gone to meet her friend. I think she was drugged and smuggled into the US and (very sad to say) used as a sex slave in the Vegas area for the next seven years. She more than likely attempted to escape and was then beaten with the hammer and killed.
And yes, the "S" tattoo was another hit that made me link these two young women together during my initial search. Although in reality, the "S" could have been placed there by the individual enslaving her and have no connection to her name. Hard to know how a person like this thinks.
As I hear more from the detective, I will keep the thread posted.

I re-sent my possible match to Nevada LE last night. Here's the response:

Hello Cindy,

I apologize that we have not responded to you yet, I will review the details and get back to you soon. Please call me if you have any questions.

Thank you,

John

I think that if this is Sherrlynn then it is far more likely she was convinced to go voluntarily by someone she had met a few times. When you think about the logistics of getting someone from Australia to America, the most common method of travel (a very long commercial flight) would be damnably hard and risky with a drugged and kidnapped girl. Being taken away by yacht would be an option, but Ballarat is a bit too inland to make it a likely option. A private aircraft would be an option too, but it seems to me the sort of people who own private aircrafts would be more likely to pick up a girl as a private toy while they were going about other business than to be attempting to turn out another rather ordinary girl into whoredom... and unless the unwillingness was specifically what they were after, they'd be going for willing girls and finding them because a private aircraft is a bit of a drawcard.

Of course once she got to where-ever it was, reality would have set in quickly.
