Finding more of a record on Driver:

According to the report, Driver's criminal record stretches back to 1992 when the 12 year old was sentenced to community service for shooting a deer out of season.
In 1994, Driver was sentenced to formal probation after being convicted of a residential break-in in which several firearms were taken and the burglary of the Quality Firearms store on Orr Springs Rd.
Ten months later he was removed from his parents' home and lodged in the Shasta Youth Connection facility after he pointed an automatic pistol at another youth while demanding information, the report continues.
In an interview Driver said he and "some friends had decided they would be able to do some robberies to get some cigarettes and possibly some money".
C (the person preparing this report for the courts back in 1998) described Driver as quite the charmer who provided him with all the right answers.
But according to juvenile hall records, Driver had received numerous write ups while in custody, threatening staff members, refused to follow directions and had caused numerous problems during transport to and from court. During his time at juvenile hall, C said, Driver also had faked a suicide attempt.
"I also believe Mr Driver was more involved in this case than we are led to believe," C concluded.

The article goes on to state Driver admitted to being a heavy drinker, starting at age 16, and a "heavy" daily user of marijuana since age 15. Needing to "take a hit" every 5 mins.

The more I hear of his past, the less I feel like Naomi will be found alive.

I think that some people, at least, are arguing that he couldn’t afford the truck unless he had another source of income, presumably criminal. (By the way, you could make a lot of money betting that in any case of a disappearance where the kidnapped person is middle-class, employed, etc. that trafficking is NOT involved.)

Other people pointed out his possible income, I believe, to make the point that we don’t have to wonder how he could afford the truck.

One thing in life I’ve learned and also here on websleuthes is that you never say never or always. Moo There’s exceptions for rules all the time. Moo

I doubt that as well. I just hope that there is enough to keep him in jail. Darn rights for criminals. Their victims definitely didn't have any rights.

Is it possible he gave her and maybe others to a trafficker &/or pedophile in return for cash? I’m curious how he could afford such an expensive vehicle. Moo
In Texas there are all kinds of creative financing deals. Cars/trucks are in abundance after the flu shutdown. It's basically can you afford a monthly payment. If you lease payments are less, if you have a trade in payments can be less and many companies have their own financing for employees. If you calculate payments on $65,000.00 the payments are less than $1000.00 dollars a month. Most people don't consider total cost, just monthly payment. And it maybe a company truck or if his own he may be paid an allowance each month by his employer. I don't think affording that truck is an issue. I don't know salary range in Nevada, but in Texas most of the energy producers pay very well. Or at least used to.

Gas station, dating apps. Predator. He could've been trolling anytime, anywhere. Or he was just aware of the shuttle and knew there might be an opportunity to overtake a victim.

If nightmares had nightmares, this would be it.

Also I’m wondering if there is an online gaming connection

I struggle with using Vinelink, is there a fee and an easy way to use it and access information?
It is free. Try Vinelink.com or you can also get the VineLink app.

I believe it is 72 hours. Which is often why they like to arrest people on Friday. Because, I don't think that includes Saturday and Sunday. So, if there is an arrest, no hearing right away, no bail. It gives police time to do search and get more information for hearing on Monday or Tuesday.

(Pretty sure this is correct, it is common in Montana.).
We have Saturday morning arraignments in Seattle.

Florida didn't have a Covid shutdown per say, we have no vehicles on car lots. You have to order with at least a three month wait now. My daughter just paid sticker price on a Subaru as it was the only three row SUV at ANY dealer. If things were going so well for him I wonder why he risked an abduction. It won't be surprising to see if his last vehicle is connected to other cases and I wonder if he left CA due to connections to other unsolved cases. The research on this guy will be very time consuming.

Which is definitely not a rural area. Small towns, operate far differently than large cities. Judges are fewer, and far more likely to take weekends off in rural areas.

I have two questions.
Does anyone find it odd LE has not had a press conference since Driver's arrest? And does anyone think k there is a link with the mystery video car and occupants being identified and interviewed? Do you think they are connected to the perp at all? Or timing of them coming forward and the arrest was just coincidence.

I never said it was a rural area. Someone commented that in their state (not Nevada), there were no weekend arraignments, and that’s why police liked to make arrests on Fridays. I was pointing out that is not always the case.

That's not the norm here. Most dealerships have standard delivery of new cars, based on historical sales info, they are floor planned and the lot is stocked. You come in and buy a car and take it home. You can of course place a special order. Can't speak to Florida's process, but sounds interesting.

I have been asking myself these same questions.

LE probably has their hands full today. Considering the search warrant, the ground search in Fernley today, processing evidence collected and interviewing Driver and any acquaintances of his who might have knowledge of the incident, there’s a lot for a rural agency to do. Also, if there is any news, the family will need to be notified first. My guess is that they are waiting on the press conference until they decide if they are going to charge Driver or let him loose.

Needs to take a hit of weed every 5 minutes at age 16? That’s intense.

If the law in the other state encompasses the minimum elements that the strike charge in California did, yes. I’ve litigated this before.
@riolove77 - good to see you here. Could you expound on this a bit? Specifically, could the crimes he was convicted of in California be introduced in the sentencing phase if he was convicted in Nevada? I guess it really wouldn't matter if he got LWOP for murder, just curious.

And, has more likely than not had a massive effect on his mental health (going by people I know who use cannabis frequently)
