I again feel like this guy used to get away with this kind of stuff in the 90s and used an outdated MO, thinking about tire tracks but not thinking about having his cell phone with him when he went to dig a grave and bury a body in it.

I think that is strong evidence that he drove her to the gravesite in his truck not in her car. Though it remains a mystery why his truck was photographed near where he left her car in the afternoon. Perhaps he had her and her car for the full day (or two) before returning for his truck.

However, I don't believe he would have left his fancy new truck with his own license plates overnight in a parking lot near the abduction. Or wanted to be caught in possession of her car.

IMO she was somewhere unknown, in an unknown condition, when he switched the vehicles.

In light of the fact that she was shot in the head and chest, I wonder if she perhaps attempted to escape her kidnapper. I can't cite specific cases off the top of my head, but I have a sense that in other cases where women were abducted and eventually murdered by their captor(s), if they were killed with a firearm, the victims were usually only shot only in one part of the body (typically head). I could be way off base with this, but I would prefer to think she died trying to escape this pathetic soulless loser rather than believing she just complied with all his instructions and was still killed at the end of the ordeal.

If I recall, LE didn't say COD wasn't apparent. Her brother said something to that effect. LE was withholding the details at the time, possibly from Casey too.

Yes it would be obvious if she was shot in the chest and the head as reported. I wonder if they had him identify her remains from a photo and were careful not to show him her wounds, both for sensitivity and to keep it secret. He'll probably address that comment at some point. It is odd.

Gods this is heartbreaking. My mind automatically goes to what she had to be thinking before it happened. How scared and frightened she would have been. I'm so sorry Naomi. You deserved a full and beautiful life. Not this tragic end from a coward.

Imagine a phone app that monitored your behavior using AI. Call it iCasey in honor of Naimi's brother.

When the app notices that Naomi drove to Walmart as on most workdays but never got on the shuttle or arrived at work, it could ask her "Hi Naomi, this is your iCasey app. I noticed you did not get on the shuttle to work as you usually do? Is everything ok?"

Naomi could have a safe word and a help word to use in a reply. But if it got no answer after several tries, or she said the help word, the app could call her emergency contact... "Hi Casey. The is iCasey on Naomi's phone. I noticed she arrived at the shuttle stop as usual this morning but she never got on the shuttle and did not arrive at work. She did not answer when I asked if she was ok (or she replied with a codeword indicating she needed help). She asked that you be notified in such an event. Please call her to check.

If you confirm there is suspicion of trouble, you can give iCasey permission to share her last known location with authorities for further investigation. (or suggest other volunteer search groups to contact first)"

Some combination of technology and dedicated social services could serve as a screening tool, acting immediately but still not bothering LE until there's evidence of a crime, and/or there's a clear need for their investigative tools. If implemented properly with consultation and cooperation of LE, future Naomis could be saved.

I would think they'd have a better idea at a narrower window of time when she was killed based on the state of the body. 4 days vs 17 is a lot of time that would really affect things. Anyone else think this is odd, or perhaps in the desert heat you just can't be more accurate? This is just all so awful.

I'll try not to be too gross here.

A small-caliber weapon doesn't necessarily leave a lot of damage. Especially if there was bruising or other injuries to obscure the wounds.

Or it might only be visible from certain angles.

I expect they would have tried hard to keep CV from seeing the worst of it.

Whoa. The brutal manner in which he planned this terrifying murder hurts my soul. Once TD managed to get Naomi to slide over so he could drive, he took control. He had a location or two in mind just for his evil purposes. Although we tried, it was the witness who recognized that fancy black truck who tipped him to LE.

I never debated over the offense the other unharmed lady experienced after her hike but do think now it likely was TD trailing her vehicle. He'd been trolling for a while. Naomi was in the wrong place when he spied her. Selected her. Targeted her.

She never saw him coming. How chilling to recall him standing, hidden in the bushes while staring straight at her in the parking lot.

And, there was nothing anyone could do to save her. May Naomi rest her innocent soul in peace.

I really like the thought you've put into this, but IMO as a know-nothing about tech stuff, I think it would have the same fatal defect as when you follow a family member's shared location on their phone. That is, if an assailant takes a victim's phone, turns it off and/or throws it away somewhere.
That would render the app unworkable, I think? Or am I misunderstanding?
