Thanks for talking to your friend, FastEddy. I definitely think her drug scenario is a viable possibility. I just a have a few problems with it. Where would Steven have met big-time drug runners - big and bold enough to murder someone? I just get the feeling that his roommate was NOT a big time drug dealer at all - after all, he stole a toaster from the apt - and probably was just a big pot head instead who maybe sold dime bags to his friends. I don't see the roomie as the potential drug connection - so where would Steven have run in to such people? (For the record, I absolutely positively do not think Steven was using drugs himself.) Then there's the money issue. If, presumably, Steven had been doing this 'collecting' for awhile, why couldn't he pay his rent? I don't think even Steven is naive enough to work months or even weeks at something without receiving a paycheck - even if he WAS promised a big 'payoff' at the end - I don't think he'd fall for that. He wasn't that unworldly, was he? And finally, unless Steven threatened to snitch on these theoretical drug dealers, why would they murder him? Drug dealers want to stay on the down low and off the radar - I can't see any murdering someone unless it was ABSOLUTELY necessary (i.e., Steven threatened to snitch, and I also can't see him being THAT stupid). If they didn't want to pay Steven, well, what was he going to do? Sick his posse on them? Steven wasn't connected. What threat could he have been for drug dealers who, all in all, want to avoid at all possible costs showing up on LE's radar?
Ok, those are my problems with the theory, but I definitely think it's just as viable as any other we've come up with.
