NV - Tesla Cybertruck explosion at Trump hotel in Vegas investigated as a possible terrorist act, 1 Jan 2025

  • #21
Do I think it's a coincidence? I don't know,' Sheriff Kevin McMahill said. 'We're absolutely looking into any connections to New Orleans.'

In a bombshell press conference, officers investigating the incident revealed the Cybertruck was hired from Turo in Colorado and driven across the border into Nevada at 7.30am Wednesday.

The explosion took place just an hour later.

Police have released a series of photographs from inside the Cybertruck which blew up outside Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas, revealing an arsenal of explosives

*The driver's remains are 'still in the truck as we speak today,' McMahill said, adding that while they know the name of the person responsible for renting the truck, they're not yet in a position to reveal those details to the public

Per Wolf Blitzer both the truck in New Orleans and the Tesla in Vegas were rented from Turo. cnn.com Not saying there is any connection.
This will have to be JMO as I heard it on Bloomberg TV during The China Show so no link to MSN. Apparently they think it's a big enough deal to talk about it when the show is about China financial news! They mentioned the connection of Turo, that you mentioned in your post, and that cars and trucks are rented out like VRBO for cars (the last part of that sentence is JMO).

Here is how Turo works:

From article: Musk had said: 'Cybertruck is the worst possible choice for a car bomb, as its stainless steel armor will contain the blast better than any other commercial vehicle.'

I wonder if the Cybertruck was chosen for symbolic reasons? If Musk's statement is accurate it is fortunate they chose it - except the vehicle's original owner may be screwed. Terror events are often not covered by insurance claims.

Hope the person who died inside wasn't a valet. Sounds like an operation that went off before it was supposed to.
I had not thought about that. In one of the links I read that the truck was seen on video driving by about an hour before it was parked in front of the hotel.
Is there any way this could have been a freak accident? Someone visiting brought in fireworks and something triggered an explosion? Seems if it's innocent we will be hearing that very soon. I hope it's not related to terrorism. I feel confident that Trump and Musk will get to the bottom of this in quick order. All JMO

They say fireworks-style mortars, those are pretty big. Lots of pics on google and banned in some places.
They can also be small. Just not enough info. There just isn't enough info.

We shot off mortar style fireworks from cardboard tubes last night. They're widely available. Fireworks somehow had to get to the party!

Anyway, there just isn't enough information. They could be big. They could be small. Who knows?

This case and the New Orleans case both appear to involve taking a vehicle intentionally across state lines.

“The truck was rented in Colorado and arrived in the city Wednesday morning, less than two hours before the detonation, police said. Parked in front of the hotel near a glass entrance, the vehicle started to smoke, then exploded.”

You cannot walk one step, take one bite or take one breath without being on video camera in Las Vegas. They know exactly who drove it who got out of it.

The only reason I mentioned a valet is because one of those articles said the vehicle drove up to the valet area of the entrance.

Sheriff McMahill said the authorities found gas canisters, camp fuel canisters and large firework mortars in the back of the truck. It was unclear how they were ignited, Sheriff McMahill said.

The authorities said that the truck was rented in Colorado using Turo, the same car rental app used in the New Orleans attack. The authorities were able to trace the car back to Colorado using video footage captured at charging stations, Sheriff McMahill said.

I don't think the app is proof of any connection between the two incidents. That's like saying two crimes that both involved DoorDash must be connected. That Turo app has tens of millions of users.

I completely agree with you.

The second i read about the gas containers being seen inside the vehicle, that possibility became extremely unlikely

I was just about to type almost exactly this, down to the Door dash reference! We're either great minds or fools. :p

How would Musk know the vehicle was functioning properly?? They need ppl to examine these things who aren't concerned about company reputation.

"Elon Musk, Tesla’s chief executive, said in a statement on X that “the explosion was caused by very large fireworks and/or a bomb carried in the bed of the rented Cybertruck” and said the vehicle was functioning properly."

I think this is going to wind up being some suicidal guy who wanted to make a statement. That vehicle is probably the worst one you could possibly use if the goal was to kill people; its design limits blast radius.
