Thanks. I'll stop by my girlfriend's art studio tomorrow and ask her to reconstruct it for us.

Miss Muffet that would be a huge help for us.

Neckband, we have not ever mentioned if we found the neckband of the t-shirt. There was no tag that we could find.

mmarty, are you able to give us any more R/O's?

We could begin digging into WS threads here for more info on these missing people if they aren't ruled out or appear to be some of the better leads.

My partner and I are working a lead on this case which we can't discuss (I know that is a big tease, I'm sorry). We would request that the forum keep digging for us while we vet this information. We need the list of possibles to continue so that we can continue to check and rule out. We will update the rule outs this weekend if I have time.

Thanks I saw a post mentioning the neck band and was postulating if it was intact. This was posted on namus

"T-shirt present on remains around neck and right arm. An imprint, possibly of feather was noted on the shirt."

90 names of possible matches have been submitted since last weekend! Woo-Hoo WS'rs rock!

I know we've all spent hours and hours looking on google images for pics of this shirt. This is the closest two I have found

http://i.tfcdn.com/img2/E4Jz2XEAY9o...yxNTYwUEvLLbHNKkhNVyvMKbE1NDAAAA**/fvUG-v8A.B

https://img0.etsystatic.com/046/0/6688590/il_340x270.674661858_a1kb.jpg

I'd appreciate any input on these two. My search string "sun hawk"
They're both the closest we've found. I think the bird drawing and the coloring is a better match on the blue shirt, but the actual placement of the bird is better in the white picture, even though the image is reversed from our victim's shirt. The second one was definitely created by computer, but that doesn't matter because an artist or company can carry over the same design or logo using a different medium. And we can't expect the design to remain exactly the same after 20 years. It's going to be tweaked to modernize it.

I found a few patches that were close, even though the wings don't spread outside of the patch circle. I'll share them tomorrow.

GGE I just want to say I have a step brother that went off on his own for more than 10 years. He had an addiction and at some point was homeless. He ended up here in FL where I eventually moved to. We never reported him missing either. He is living a clean and sober life now and married, but my point is, sometimes we don't report it, because we know it is a life choice. This UID could be the same. Glad we both have good endings.

Note: my Step brother did tell me that many of the transients will only use "nick names". Many don't want to be found or get help. They will hitch rides, live in camps, move on, take each other's cloths if they need them.

I printed out the photos and I'm going to throw them on the light box tomorrow. That heightens the contrast with the dark lines and might give a clearer picture of the design.

I can work with Photo shop some more. I tried to change the photo into different types of renderings, but the hands show up more than the bird. Maybe I can cut out the blue and leave the only the bird and see what I get. I am an artist, but I don't know what I can add to the drawing without really knowing what kind of bird it is. Also, paint hues and values can change over time. Some browns can turn green, and so can reds and oranges. I think the paint on that shirt could be acrylic and they stay true to the color for years and hold up much better than stains. I also think from looking at it, it is a silk screen of the art on the shirt. Many mall venders did that, they would sell their own art, on tees. Don't know if that helps or not.

Yes, my brother has been Yogi since before he even left home. I doubt anyone hearing the name "Yogi Bair" would ever in a million years think it was a real name, yet we found him with it because WE knew. It does make things difficult.

re: our UID: I can't help but wonder how many six foot tall redhead males there really are out there compared to other males in general. It would seem that this wouldn't be so difficult - there should be maybe one or two in any graduating class with red hair and one or none of that height. But how to search? hmmm

Also, can someone perhaps contact a screen printer and ask if the shirt is 70s style iron-on versus 80s style screen printed? I think it's NOT an iron-on style shirt, which could be helpful in rule-outs at least (for example in the 70s and 80s our mall had a store called The Transfer Shop and you could get custom iron-on t shirts made - this shirt couldn't have come from somewhere like that I don't think. In fact it was SO popular to do that at that time that I think this shirt almost HAS to be more of a souvenir shirt since most novelty tees were that shiny-plasticky looking iron-on material (just another opinion that may or may not hold water)).

I also don't think searching via the bird type/breed name is going to net anything - I think this is going to have to be found by searching "vintage souvenir shirt" or similar, and adding on every single resort/lake/hiking/camping/museum/reservation/etc we can think of one at a time til we get a hit, and probably not in google images so much as on a web page to a personal blog of someone recalling a childhood trip. If this was out there as a t-shirt listing in and of itself someone here would've found it by now. Just my opinion. (and be sure to use t shirt and not tshirt - I get different results if I do versus do not enter the space between "t" and "shirt".. sometimes I just do "shirt" FWIW).

And for what it's worth, I looked up tons of "Ocean Pacific" t shirts because the "stylized sun" in the background reminded me so much of the ones they used, and also Florida souvenir shirts of the 80s had a bright orange solid round sun in a great many of them, but no luck with the bird yet.

And.. at that time it was normal to give out free cigarette-brand tshirts as promotions, and that continued all through the 80s and 90s and beyond probably.. when I worked at a convenience store in the late 80s/early 90s we handed them out all the time. I can't help but wonder if this could be something like that, as bizarre as it sounds. Might as well throw it out there anyway.

One last thought. The hat was from Heavenly Lake Tahoe... could the wings on the shirt be in some way related to a play on the word "Heavenly"? Far fetched but once noted my brain allows me to move on, so I will just leave the thought here and move on.

...the forensic anthropologist's general focus in on bones, the forensic pathologist's general focus in on soft tissue (including organs and body fluid analyses).

http://people.uncw.edu/albertm/forensic.htm

So then the bones had evidence of multiple stabbings but the soft tissue did not. Presumably because there was no soft tissue to go on any longer.. ?

That's a lot of rage, to be able to affect multiple bones during a stabbing such that you can tell by bones someone was killed by being stabbed multiple times, isn't it? Or am I speculating too far? Would something someone just offhandedly kept in their pocket, like a swiss army knife, be able to do that or can we pretty much count on it being a weapon-style-knife or hunting knife at least? (Of course if it WAS one of those larger knives then it makes me think again about the likelihood that the hands and feet were cut off and taken away from the scene... possibly in an effort to conceal the person's identity but also possibly because some people just like to cut off the feet of victims and throw them into water, as evidenced by my post a little ways back regarding some 15 feet found in one location and 12 in another IIRC).

Check this tattoo design. Also some interesting info on falcons. http://www.itattoodesigns.com/tattoo-meanings/falcon.php

oh-ho! Your link suggests this particular bird is commonly used in military imagery. Growing up with five brothers, one who was about 6' tall, my mother sometimes would go to the local "army-navy" store to buy jeans for the boys since they had the widest array of sizes as compared to Sears, for example. Near the start of this thread a mention of a military place of some sort and the word "deserter" was mentioned. Interesting (possibly unrelated) factoids.

Apparently Kinney shoes is (okay was, before selling to Woolworth, who later shut down every part of it except: ) the same company as FootLocker ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinney_Shoes ) so perhaps they could offer assistance as to where the particular model of shoes wouldve been sold in the size/color/model combo in question. I realize the shoes may not be related but felt it was worth throwing out there. Apologies for multiple posts. This is how my brain works.. all or nothing.

(edited to add: I had no idea the company was founded by a man living in Candor, NY. That town is about two trailer-parks large, I used to live in one of them many years ago and still live a half hour away. The first store was in Waverly - I was there just a couple of days ago (the town not the store). Coincidences intrigue me, even small ones like those.)

I'm actually shocked how many missing men within that height range have red hair. For being a small percentage of the population, they're over-represented in the missing person's database.

My thoughts - they had traced him to a shelter in DC at one point, but that doesn't mean he stayed there. He was paranoid and his home was the west coast. Perhaps he tried to go back there and didn't make it. Dentals are available so it should be relatively easy to check.
