Not the ancestry part, no. You have to pay extra and take your raw DNA over to Promethease and run it through their program because the FDA isn't allowing them to supply health reports directly any longer. The raw DNA is where the good info is at, they just call tell it to you right now because of the law.

I think that's new since they had it done.

I'm sorry if I offended your or came across like I'm picking your suggestion apart. I didn't mean to. I tend towards some social awkwardness in combination with my obsessive interests, I truly apologize and honestly didn't realize I'd come off badly. Thank you for letting me know I need to work on that.
I'm not offended at all. I mentioned it because the thread was temporarily derailed for many pages debating hair color, which distracted from finding leads, and the detectives put an end to the debating by telling us to exclude hair color and impressing upon us that they want any possible leads, even leads with the slightest possibility.

As for how your mind works, I love how you brainstorm with a billion ideas at once. I'm very similar in that regard.

Example from my own report. One of my genotypes is GS241 - "lighter green, brown or hazel eye color You have a variant linked to blue eye color, but also less common eye color variations. This is common among western europeans with green, light brown or hazel eye color" http://www.snpedia.com/index.php/gs241

I am also (A, A) at rs1667394 which suggests I have blonde hair and blue eyes. I was born blonde but haven't been blonde since I was about 12.

Now, my eyes are deep blue. But this DNA analysis was not able to DEFINITIVELY say that. I realize this is a little more technical than it should probably be. I just wanted to let the detectives know that even Raw DNA cannot positively give you the eye color, though it's more likely with a male than a female like me, because as a female my mitochondrial DNA is only from my mother and there ARE no Y chromosomes. Anyway, I'll file this under "never mind unless someone needs to know more because it's not my area of expertise, only an area of interest". :)

PS - I am (G, G) at rs12913832 which is 99% of the time blue-eyed and that's about as close as they can get with me to knowing what color my eyes are from DNA I think. They have all that stuff to weigh together to try to determine what my colors are, and there are tens of thousands of SNPs which are just variations on genes, which there are even more of, so like I said I'll stop here. LOL

I believe someone has already mentioned the similarity to this cover by The Eagles, but just in case I'm wrong:

http://assets.rollingstone.com/assets/images/list/e06e388c911f49d89122b05d506cca1ae01c6856.jpg

I was looking to see if it had been modified to create a similar concert t shirt for the band but so far no luck.

I checked out all of the Eagles band and concert shirts I could find, but one of them had a guitar with a bird, and it was orange. It was a google for concert shirts and it came up. I was wondering if the bottom could be the round base of a guitar. But the edge looks flat so perhaps not. Just something I thought about.

Just a thought about the missing teeth and root canal. Root canals are not cheap to have done, and back in the 80/90's most insurance didn't cover them; with that said, at some point he had the means to get his dental work done and then later perhaps he ended up losing 8 teeth rather than save them. It is possible he was transient, because of the things you let go when money is tight is dental work. My step brother can attest to that. When younger and he had money and a job, he got his teeth taken care of, but when homeless, well he lost teeth. I have 4 crowns or caps and I noticed that different dentist use different labs to make the crows and caps. They look different if you look closely. They are like artist too, each designs the caps and crowns in the labs. Is there anything that would be a lead there, such as material used or anything unique about how the cap was design. Just wanted to throw that out there too.

Wow great point (SBM above) - at one point I had state health insurance /medicaid and could not get approval for a root canal but they would approve pulling it, so that's why I don't have the teeth that I don't have (wisdom aside). (well, two of them. the third one my dentist was sure he could get approval for because by then it was the early 2000s and he said more stuff was covered at that point than in the early 90s when my other two were pulled, but I was in pain and elected to have them yank it then and there and not wait for red tape approvals.)

bottom line is that in my experience, in the 90s if you had problem teeth and medicaid/food stamps/public assistance, you had 'em pulled or fillings put in but those were your options. IME only of course. So maybe he was on medicaid for the bulk of his later adult life, and maybe had the RC done while still on parental insurance, or when he had a more legit job at some point and better insurance?

Totally correct of course. I was thinking that someone who appeared to be living more as a drifter would just tie something around the waist of their pants and carry on, not buy a new pair of Levi's in a smaller size, but obviously we know nothing about the guy so I'm glad you pointed that out!
While that may true of outright homeless people, many drifters/transients/nomadics actually work. My son lives a lifestyle somewhat similar to this 6 months each year (and wants to live it fulltime.) Many of his coworkers live it full time. They move state to state working seasonal jobs. They have housing---most of the time---sometimes it takes a month or two to secure housing when they arrive to a new area. They make money, buy clothes, etc.

My son has a female friend who headed out to Seattle five years ago. She had housing the majority of the time renting rooms in houses. Something ultimately happened to put her out into the street a few times, and she lived in her car for a few months until she saved money for housing again. This is a child from a very wealthy family. She could have called them for money, but she is determined to do it on her own. And she buys clothes when she has the money. Fortunately, she finally settled down with a great boyfriend and she has an apartment with a lease actually in her name. She proudly displayed the keys on facebook the day she signed the lease. She has been in the same place for 1-1/2 years so far and seems to have stabilized.

There are ways to promote safety for family members who live this type of lifestyle. My child knows I will look for him if I don't hear from him each week. (But he calls almost every day anyways because he does enjoy sharing his life with us.) I keep names and phone numbers of his roommates, friends and coworkers wherever he goes. I even make note of names he mentions in passing. He understands that being responsibly independent means always letting someone know where he's going and who he will be with. His friend in Seattle does the same with her parents and friends. His friend and coworkers do also, and the ones who don't keep in touch with their families often have parents calling other people's phones to check up on them, which indicates most of these families are collecting names and phone numbers of known associates in an attempt to keep track of their transient adult kids.

I imagine technology today makes it much easier to compared to decades ago. For as long as I live, I'll always keep my son's cell phone on my plan, and I'll always next-day a cell phone to him if it gets lost or broken. Fortunately, in the past 5 years, I've only had to replace a phone one time. If I didn't hear from him in a week, I'd be on the next plane to where he lived, and at the police station in person, and I wouldn't leave the area until I found him.

The song Solsbury Hill by Peter Gabriel means so much to me.

Miss Muffet, you and I sound a lot alike. I've called the police before when I couldn't get a hold of my oldest son (20s, was a teen then though). He was more careful in the future.. ;) I was scared though. And of course had the scanner on broadcastify.com the whole time so I could hear anything that might pertain to him while I couldn't find him. Websleuths will do that to a parent/person!

My brother works part of the year but spends a few months at a time in the back country. So back country that he climbed and/or at least signed all the peaks/registries in his park naked one year.. yeesh! But yeah... the BBC special American Nomads is on youtube in full and other places too and it has my brother at the end for a few minutes. The whole show is enlightening though, or was to me.

It's also possible he wasn't transient and the missing teeth are the result of the trauma he endured when he was killed.

Or trauma at some other time.

It's not unusual for hockey players to be missing several front teeth, for instance.

This scenario occurred to me last night while I was failing to get to sleep:

Guy moves to new town. Say, Sparks, but it could be anywhere in the area. Friend comes to help him find an apartment and move in. Maybe there's a rental truck to unpack, or maybe they just bought or borrowed a few used moving quilts. Friend is driving the Grand Prix, which might be his, or might be borrowed or stolen.

Guy and friend have a fight. Friend winds up dead with a kitchen knife in his ribs, or something, with damage to the wall.

Guy isn't sure what to do. Thinks it over while painting the damaged wall, which gets white paint on the blanket. Or maybe the paint was there before. Guy thinks, "Nobody knows friend was here. If I get rid of the body and the car, they can't tie me to it."

Wraps friend in blanket, moves body to car. Maybe it's after dark or maybe the house isn't close to anything. Brings dog because he doesn't know what else to do with it. Drives into Sand Canyon, moves body onto ground, digs grave beside it. Grabs body by shoulders to pull it into grave. Body pulls out of blanket, leaving jeans behind. He isn't about to futz with dressing a dead body so he leaves it there and buries the body as is.

He's not going to leave the dog out here to starve to death, but the dog doesn't want to come. He's whining and howling by the grave. Grabs the dog by the collar. Dog struggles. Collar breaks. Dog runs away, leaving guy holding the collar. He thinks about chasing after it, but it made such a racket he's afraid somebody is going to come, so he leaves.

Drives the car just over the CA border to dispose of it, hoping if it's found in another jurisdiction LE there won't talk to LE in Sand Canyon. (Note this implies some familiarity with the shady side of the law.) Then he can either:
a) hitch a ride to wherever
b) walk out, because he didn't live very far away
c) call a friend for a ride, probably using the excuse his car broke down.

He calls to report the car, because if it's found before the body, he knows they won't search it for evidence because there's no crime to search for.

I'm not sure why he would report the body. Maybe just got tired of always wondering whether somebody was going to find it.

Anyway, that's my rambling...for what it's worth. Which is probably not much.

Guys, guys. I just started on the light box and look what I found. This is the extreme left-hand side of the material, to the left of MMarty's blue thumbs. There's stuff there that isn't part of the bird. Maybe a mountain and another bird?

Another note: the blue or gray color does not appear to extend above the black area that looks like shadow or another bird.

I blew it up some so you could see more clearly what I'm talking about, and annotated it. I think it's going to show small in this post but if you click on it you should be able to enlarge it. If it's not clear let me know and I'll see if I can clear it up.

P.S. Also, whoever thought they saw the bird's head in the center of the black part of the design, it looks like you are probably right.
Can you show us where on the picture you pulled this portion of the image?

Carbuff,

Can you pm me the file please and any enhancement to the pic? EXCELLENT WORK!!!!!

I have a question for the detectives.

When the body was found, would forensics have collected garbage like tin cans? I know the detectives believe it was a body dump sit, but I'm trying to determine if it's possible it was a temporary makeshift campsite until one or two people found housing. I feel there would be some evidence of a campfire and garbage that couldn't be burned. Would those things have been noted in the files by LE when the body was found?

If it's not noted, can we assume it's possible there was evidence of a campfire nearby along with tin cans and LE simply failed to mention it in the file? Or are there extensive pictures to rule out that possibility?

I didn't do it in color, Miss M...
Then how do you know there are the colors you noted?

I guess it will become clearer to me when I see the files you upload.

I worked from the photos in Namus.

I enlarged them and printed them off on white paper on my color printer.

I flipped the page over and put it on the light box, so I was looking at it from the reverse side. The light box is just a sheet of glass with a light behind it. It tends to make the dark lines look darker and everything else look paler, so it's easier to trace the outlines and black parts. The colors show through, so I can make note of them, but I didn't try to copy them. That's why it's in black and white.

I scanned the black and white drawing back onto my computer. Because it's done with the picture flipped, I have to flip it back in the graphic program (I just use Paint :p ) I made the annotations in the same program.

Used "attachments" to include it here.

Thank you for the explanation. I can't wait to see the exact location on the design it's located.
