The eye could be dirt.Yes, that is definitely possible. Or an artifact of the staining.
But that eye seems so definite and defined.

Can you post your sketches? I'd love to see what you're envisioning. When sketching it out, it really only looks like a single bird soaring in flight with the head pointing toward the upper left.
I just have the basic design right now, but later I can. I am trying to figure out the missing pieces or at least where they should be. The rough sketch is still pretty rough. lolCan you post your sketches? I'd love to see what you're envisioning.
Thanks. I'm taking a break to refresh my mind. This is making my mind mush.I just have the basic design right now, but later I can. I am trying to figure out the missing pieces or at least where they should be. The rough sketch is still pretty rough. lol
Once we "see" an image in our brain, we often can't "unsee" it. Think of it like looking at the clouds and making animals out of them or something. When we look away and look back...what we envisioned is what we readily see again.Yes, that is definitely possible. Or an artifact of the staining.

Just a thought about the missing teeth and root canal. Root canals are not cheap to have done, and back in the 80/90's most insurance didn't cover them; with that said, at some point he had the means to get his dental work done and then later perhaps he ended up losing 8 teeth rather than save them. It is possible he was transient, because of the things you let go when money is tight is dental work. My step brother can attest to that. When younger and he had money and a job, he got his teeth taken care of, but when homeless, well he lost teeth. I have 4 crowns or caps and I noticed that different dentist use different labs to make the crows and caps. They look different if you look closely. They are like artist too, each designs the caps and crowns in the labs. Is there anything that would be a lead there, such as material used or anything unique about how the cap was design. Just wanted to throw that out there too.

Once I started sketching it, I realized the "scenery" is feathers. It isn't very clear because of the shirt itself and the stains, but it makes sense the feathers don't just abruptly stop where it begins. The feathers continue and curve up on both ends. You can follow the markings on the feathers right to the edge of the shirt over that area.I stretched the image out a bit and you can see that there is something on the edge, but I don't know if it is staining or mountains. I also think the sun part is off, like not perfect circle, or maybe it is me.

I agree - I wondered if the detectives could open up or flatten the very left side of the shirt where you are seeing mountains or scenery - I think it would help.I think this is the pose we are seeing only tilted to the right a bit more. I am sketching it out and we definitely don't have the head.
Yes. That is what I see, too. Here is what I see, I used markers and pen to enhance the image once I printed it out.

Wouldn't the bird be upside down?I also don't see a head or feet, so I think this is a bird soaring up and we are seeing the back of the bird. If the feet were showing it would be the underneath of the bird. But that is just me, seeing what I can from the image.

Hmmm...let me contemplate this a bit. I think my mind's eye is stuck. lol It seems unnatural. I have to remind myself of the artist's perception, but I see a body there and not just wing span going across the back. The body wouldn't be so defined or would it? A lot of the photos and sketches I have looked at had the talons rather tucked up into the feathers when soaring so not too visible.View attachment 72922
once again looking up or under. I think we are looking down and at the back of the bird
