NY – Ex POTUS Donald Trump, sued by E. Jean Carroll, DT found liable re sexual assault, $5M award, countersuit dismissed, appeal rejected, 2023

  • #721

Before a full 24 hours has passed, former President Donald Trump has posted nearly a dozen times on Truth Social about his $5 million defeat in the E. Jean Carroll sex-abuse verdict. Three of those posts are videos. Five are all-caps screeds. They’re filled with spin, lies and pure whoppers.

Using the same platform that sparked his defamation liabilities, Trump raged in the immediate wake of the civil judgment. He raged throughout the evening. He raged three times after midnight. Then, presumably after getting some sleep, Trump woke up in the morning and raged again.

To anyone with the inclination to minimize the jury decision, or to insinuate that all NewYorkers would vote against the Donald, please refer to the bio's of the jury members, posted upthread by a moderator last night. One juror said he got his news from Tim Pool, which is about as conservative as they go on youtube. And I mean way out there, imo. All Donald needed was one, and he couldn't get even that.

it's a known red flag for dementia when an elderly person keeps repeating themselves, as though their mind is in a certain groove on an old 78rpm record. He will enter his 78th year in June. Spray tan and expensive capped teeth can't help, Donald.
Well then he's had dementia for a long long time

Certain things have "worked" for him for 50 some years, but now they don't. His mind is not flexible enough to adapt to new behaviors. Demeaning, denigrating, and defaming a woman who was just yesterday awarded 5M of his own money for the exact same offenses, yep dementia.

Remember when he was able to screw over all the tradesmen in building that casino in NJ? He got quotes for the work, paid part, and when the jobs were finished, he wouldn't pay the balance....telling the craftsmen/ builders to SUE ME for the rest. I don't think that will work with EJC, lol.

I didn't see a Trump thread for Trump antics; however, felt this is an informative, and a long overdue article that I've personally have been waiting for. If not fit for this thread, please remove.

One of President Donald Trump’s lesser known but profoundly damaging legacies will be the explosive rise in the national debt that occurred on his watch. The financial burden that he’s inflicted on our government will wreak havoc for decades, saddling our kids and grandkids with debt.

Maybe she can ask for a post-trial adjustment or whatever the legalese is. Every time he makes a public statement about her, or the trial, or anything associated with it, he's fined another $1M.

They should just surgically remove his face and mouth altogether.

Another friendly reminder why he needs to be permanently shut down from running for ANY political office or be on CNN. IMO

I grew up in palm beach county, which means I grew up knowing he was a sleazy conman. I remember laughing it up when he started getting into politics. I assumed it would be obvious to most sane people that he was a sleazy conman. I obviously miscalculated many things. Lessons have been learned.
I also grew up in close proximity to one of his houses. As you said, everyone knew he was a sleezy conman. I still cannot believe his “followers” believe him. His presidency was a tragedy for America. A tragedy that we will not soon recover from. Just my opinion

Donald Trump could face questions on sexual abuse verdict in CNN town hall

Ex-president will take questions from voters in New Hampshire one day after being found liable for sexually abusing E Jean Carroll

Donald Trump could face questions about being found to have sexually abused E Jean Carroll when he participates in a CNN town hall on Wednesday night.

The CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins will moderate the town hall at 8pm ET at St Anselm College in New Hampshire, where Trump will take questions from Republican and undeclared voters in the early voting state.

Town hall attendees will probably press Trump on how he intends to run for president as he faces legal threats in multiple states.

[...]

The Wednesday town hall marks Trump’s first appearance on CNN, which he has repeatedly attacked as “fake news”, since the 2016 presidential campaign.

[...]

The Wednesday town hall will shine a spotlight on the media’s ongoing challenges in attempting to cover Trump and his enduring sway over Republican voters as he continues to peddle lies about widespread fraud in the 2020 presidential election. Some commentators criticized CNN for giving Trump such a large platform to potentially repeat those lies, which contributed to the deadly insurrection at the Capitol on 6 January 2021. While a number of critics called on CNN to cancel the town hall, others suggested boycotting the program to drive down ratings.

“It’s clear to me that CNN and many other mainstream media outlets have not learned their lessons from covering Trump in 2016,” Tara Setmayer, a former House Republican communications director, recently told the Guardian. “This, in my opinion, is once again giving him legitimacy at a time when he is more extreme, more out of control and his lies are more dangerous than ever.”

[...]

“Our job, despite his unique circumstances, is to do what we do best,” a CNN spokesperson said in a statement. “Ask tough questions, follow up and hold him accountable to give voters the information they need to sort through their choices. That is our role and our responsibility.”

The Guardian view on consequences for Trump: this beginning took bravery

A jury verdict finding the former president liable for sexual abuse and lies won’t fix US politics. But it still matters

In finding that he sexually abused E Jean Carroll in the 1990s, and subsequently defamed her, albeit not finding him liable for rape, the jury in her civil suit laid down an important marker.

[...]

It is too easy to write off this hard-earned victory by focusing solely on the fact that its impact on voters is likely to be limited. No one imagines it will sink Mr Trump’s political fortunes. His ability to float past or even capitalise upon his worst acts, transmuting them into fundraising and campaigning capital, is both remarkable and depressing. His support has proved resilient through impeachment, indictment and general disgrace. But this verdict stands on its own merits, in curtailing the impunity he has enjoyed for too long.

It would be wrong to imagine that any case could fix a broken political system, or, indeed, root out entrenched misogyny. It is a sign of just how bad things are that it is entirely likely that the Republicans will go into the 2024 presidential election with a candidate found by a court to be a sexual abuser – and that, if they do, he may well win.

[...]

Change does not always come in immediate, dramatic and decisive fashion. It may be slow, halting, partial and unsatisfactory, yet nonetheless real and significant. Mr Trump now faces mounting jeopardy on multiple legal fronts. Whatever the outcome of other cases, this one still counts.

E Jean Carroll ‘overwhelmed with joy’ for women in US after Trump verdict

E Jean Carroll ‘overwhelmed with joy’ for women in US after Trump verdict

"I’m overwhelmed, overwhelmed with joy and happiness and delight for the women in this country,” the writer and former Elle magazine columnist told NBC’s Today a day after the verdict in the civil trial."

Hear Hear !! Thank you for your courage and fortitude, E Jean, and for your contribution to the 'sea change' that has been a long time coming for the women in this country who have been and are victims of abuse at the hands of powerful and misogynistic men, to be heard and believed and receive justice for the harm done to them !! <3

Either he won't attend or he will make it a condition that he won't answer any questions about it.
I can see him storming off if he gets any questions that he doesn't like.

Dear CNN, giving Trump a town-hall platform is the height of irresponsibility

No more town halls, interviews or rallies. Coverage should be driven by clear editorial choices that serve US democracy

Putting a microphone and three cameras on Trump as if he were just another candidate and not an instigator of the violent disruption of American democracy and leader of a conspiracy to overthrow the results of a national election is the height of journalistic irresponsibility.

[...]

No one has wanted to admit it is a dangerous moment or new environment.

So how should mainstream journalistic organizations like CNN cover Trump – or any candidate – through the election? All plans and policies should be based on the realization that democracy is under direct threat from many small factions in the United States, supported by at least one foreign power (Russia), and that they all support the return of Donald Trump to power. Trump himself is immune to shaming and exposure. So that 20th-century assumption about shining a light or exposing or embarrassing a wrongdoer is not appropriate now. The situation is more dire and the political climate in the United States is beyond such tepid, genteel moves.

[...]

News organizations must accept that they make news by virtue of their choices. They don’t cover things that already exist as “news”. They are political actors. They must choose democracy or risk being used for free by the forces that oppose democracy. The stakes are too high to continue doing business as usual. The stakes are high in a business sense, of course. But they are higher in the sense of our survival as a democratic republic in a world in which democracy is in danger.

I’d rather stick knives into my eyeballs than watch that town hall
