[...He, the Afghan born,]

conducted a dry run just days before his assault and took inspiration from Osama bin Laden and other international terrorists, according to a criminal complaint filed in federal court on Tuesday.

[...]

was powerful enough to vault a Dumpster around 120 feet through the air. Windows shattered 400 feet from where the explosion went off, and pieces of the bomb were recovered 650 feet away.

[...]

“My heart I pray to the beautiful wise ALLAH,” he wrote. “To not take JIHAD away from. I beg.”

[... with many more details]

Oh, well.

The Complaint

The journal was what he knew would be found. What did he hide, seems even more important.

Children around the world react to pain. Is an Afghan child impervious to beatings? Because female genital mutation is cultural, it does not inflict harm? Child marriage is cultural so no biggie to the child bride?

He is a nut, Seems like domestic violence is part of the disturbed profile of men lash out as well.

Yeh, that is what I have been learning of late. It really does seem as if domestic violence should be conceretly added to the profile for folks who commit mass shootings/terrorist stuff. It almost as if it like they are actually two sides of the same coin.

Its like they can make no itimate relationships whatsoever, or when they do they really cant handle them and abuse as a release regarding their actual inability to maintain one.

OR they have no real history of ever having one.

But then lets say we all agree - we are seeing that component on the ones in relationships - but then what - many abusers dont end commiting mass shootings or evove into people who have desires to terrorize the masses.

But there is another reality here IMO

What they call terror we call war
while
What we call war they call terror

Both involve killing and maiming other folks loved ones, disrupting their lives and ours, generate anxiety and fear on both sides of ocean and result in great disdain for one another.

IMO this is not a one sided story- everyone is human - they have the same rage and anger when we go into their country and blow up their cities, families and friends. We do too

. Thats human, while in truth everyone is doing the identical thing to each other.

I have never really been able to see the difference (except we do better bigger and badder) between us going over there and blowing up thier stuff , and them coming over here and doing it.

Neither is OK moo

If we just look, behaviorally, we are killing people. They are killing people.

The notion that we are doing , sematncally what we call war - to them it is terrorizing.

If you notice their wording its identical - they are not saying we are terrorists - they are saying we are at war.

We are not saying we are terrorists, over there, we say we are at war.

What is the core difference?

If we had slow motion of one our missles striking a shopping district over there - we would see the identical as him blowing up a dumpster in our shopping district

I think there are a few differences - we have more money, firepower, and friends. Our military isn't operated like a fringe cult. We don't torture (save a few exceptions which we are working on, I guess). Our military has strict laws and rules and doesn't operate based on the whims of some selfish, psychotic tyrant.

But other than that... yes, I agree. Both sides kill innocent people for their own reasons. People whose only sin is being born where they were born become casualties.

So how do you see the American vigilantes who assault Muslims and burn Mosques? I've been thinking they might be our own homegrown lone wolves, self-radicalized terrorists.

She came as an adult. What you would consider abuse would not be considered so in her home country. And regardless, what does it have to do with this case? We have someone who appeared well adjusted while growing up, become radicalized in recent years.

"Of course, she was exaggerating, but it goes to show how deeply corporal punishment is ingrained in the Afghan psyche. Many people think that a child who isn’t physically punished won’t end up being raised properly."

are you talking about him??

The handwritten document closes, "Inshallah [God willing] the sounds of the bombs will be heard in the streets. Gun shots to your police. Death To Your OPPRESSION."

The filing describes an FBI agent watching a video shot by a family member on a cell phone that shows Rahami igniting incendiary material in a cylindrical container.

It also reveals the following details:

The video was shot two days before the attacks in New York and New Jersey.
The court document is also filled with more facts about the day of the bombing including:
The dumpster on 23rd street weighed 100 pounds and flew more than 120 feet through the air;
12 fingerprints were recovered from the device on 23rd Street - all 12 matched Rahami;
A car traced to Rahami was tracked going through the Lincoln Tunnel on the day of the attacks;
Two of the cell phones had been purchased last year - one in February and one in May;
The SUV that was stopped on Sunday night by the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge contained five people including members of Rahami's family;
Rahami purchased several of the bomb components on EBay using the name "Ahmad Rahimi;"
Only one of the three devices in Seaside actually detonated; and
Rahami was also caught on video at both locations in Manhattan.

Per this document, explosives were left IN a dumpster.

THEY DID NOT DO THE JOB": Accused terrorist Ahmad Khan Rahami's dad says FBI's botched probe made way for bombings http://nydn.us/2deLxwf

(The nerve! )

Last I heard FBI parenting other kids was not in the job description!

To me it could indicate how she treats children. His violence towards his own family indicates long standing issues.

Little people , IMO, mirror what they see the big people doing when little. The watch , observe, and copy how big people manage anger, frustration, fear , confusion and if you think about it we are animals (not that way!)

So basically we do the same things , in terms of learning, as lion cubs learning how to catch prey, some animals like us, have fierce loyality to family members, some creatures instinclty leave the nest and never come back, some species create and stay with one mate - some of us try that (funny).

But in most species it is actually copying what the babies, cubs, puppies, whatever observe what the adults, lions. dogs do!

I think it has to do with the family dynamics. Seems like child abuse is a commn theme for Boston, Florida and now here.

It is interesting to me that people have breakdowns over this but shootings of elementary school children, shootings at Malls, etc are not met with billions of dollars of intervention. Curious

Hi human

Beautifuuly stated. I posted the numbers a while ago. Mass shooters by american, white, males kill thousand thousands and thousands more than terrorists Dont remember specfic but it was like from after 9-11 until 2008 6 americans were killed in america!

Its a military inductrial complex at its core , and mass shootings are so often they have lost their rating pazazz

That notion doesn't fly, for me. His mom wasn't in her homeland, at the time of the abuse.

Me either. It was fine here 35 years ago, but we evolved when we caught on that not only is not effective, that there are far more chocies than hauling off a whacking a child across the face .

Physically striking a child is just as unacceptabe (if not more) than a spouse smacking his /her spouse around. In both instances it is about power and control. Not doing what another person thinks another should do .

Men beating their wives was fine in 1950s as well. Woman not being able to vote years ago was fine also. AA drinking out of seperate fountains was ok 50 years ago. Killing gays was ok 50 years ago.

Does not mean it is ok! There are real reasons why both striking a spuse and striking a child , now , thanx god, are againist the law.

So it's the FBI's fault that his son bombed places and hurt people?

Um, no.

And I read earlier that the father himself recanted when the FBI started an investigation - the father said his son was a terrorist and then he took it back. It's like a bully pointing at someone else to deflect blame.

jmopinion

I saw that nonsense today too - and was just in a mood and thought I am not even going to think about it - it was so stupid. And I have to tell you, IMO dad was not charming today.

I still dont think he overlooked or saw bomb making along with battering chicken in his place of residence or employ, but a dash more of his manipulative behaviors leaked out today. !!

Could it be possible that he left the wheeled duffel in front of the buildings on 23rd St, and there again somebody tucked it next to dumpster to come back for it later, again, a scavenger of sorts, or a good Samaritan to keep it from being stolen?

It still doesn't make sense to build such a big explosive than place it so badly?

Respectfully,

I think in our intersting dialog we are missing the role of diesenfranchment, lonliness - identicl to gang activities.

Everybody wants to feel a part of something. If a young person doesn’t develop a sense of belonging through their family, their community, their school, a sport or other extra-curricular activity, they may seek it in a gang. Unlike most social groups the gang accepts a youth regardless of how smart they are, how much money they have or how good looking they may be. They gang accepts young people as they are with open arms. The only requirement is their willingness to participate and to follow the code of ethics.

http://www.basta.santacruz.k12.ca.us/why_youth_join_gangs.html

I think it is very much about a need/want to belong to something, moo

Just want to say, the bombings are not the mom's fault.

:)

I would agree that the bombings were not her fault. But I do think that his Domestic Violence reactions were partially learned behavior.

great story with links

[...]

"It was a nice one," he said. "Nice enough for me to have in my possession."

But once Parker, a 50-year-old lifetime resident of Elizabeth who spends his days not knowing where he'll sleep at night, pulled one of the items out of the 30-to 40-pound backpack, he said he knew something wasn't right.

[...]

Be the Change NJ, which is part of Kean University, has set Parker up an efficiency at a local hotel, clothes and food. He also got a "nice" new backpack as a donation from local resident Janette Padlo.
