That notion doesn't fly, for me. His mom wasn't in her homeland, at the time of the abuse.
I agree. Some people hide behind the WORD culture. Abuse is abuse.

Suspected terrorist Ahmad Rahami wrote in journal about his hatred for U.S. and desire to hear ‘the sounds of bombs’ in American streets

If he were on the run, wouldn't he have kept running, stayed away from the public? Instead, he stood outside a 7/11 sheltering from the rain, then slept in hallway in the same town. Was he waiting for a ride that never came, abandoned? Could he have made calls from any public phones there? Was he waiting to draw a showdown? Why did he hide in public?

Could it be possible that he left the wheeled duffel in front of the buildings on 23rd St, and there again somebody tucked it next to dumpster to come back for it later, again, a scavenger of sorts, or a good Samaritan to keep it from being stolen?

It still doesn't make sense to build such a big explosive than place it so badly?

Gone all over the palce with his placeents. Wonder if 2nd one was a ) to go off after first responders in area b) vice cersa - suupossed to go off first .

but what was clarigying was the post a few back thst he did try to hide it and homelss moved it out into the public so in all liklihhood it was placed (from view) to not be found and like his others failed .

After learning that the area he plllaced was NOT the central hub of the area, his placement in that area in general is confussing.

We do have a gay angle tho which might really be the reason??

The Rahimi father gave the impression he alerted the FBI AP raw, but it was a neighbor who called LE, according to this afternoon's reports on CBSNews. posted upthread.

I figured this would come out, eventually.
I read somewhere that the father encouraged his "travels".
And after reading that he AKR was setting off pipe bombs in his back yard...I'm pretty sure, at least, some of his family
Members knew he was doing something.

AKR does not like the US views of the taliban. Seriously? Most Afgans hate the taliban. The taliban took over the country after a long Russian-Afghan war. Both men and women were oppressed under their regime. This would of happened to his entire family if they did not come here. His father knew what his son was turning into. Thats why he called him a terrorist during an argument. The neighbor heard and called the FBI. He should have called and expressed his concerns. Or the father did not care.

So....we have videos, bomb making purchases, trips to Afgh/Pak, call from neighbor.

And the FBI did not find enough reason to keep an eye on him?

A family member of Rahami had a cell phone video of him igniting an explosive in the immediate vicinity of his Elizabeth home. The video was taken two days before the Chelsea bombing.

"The video depicts Rahami in a backyard ... the lighting of the fuse, a loud noise and flames, followed by billowing smoke and laughter," the complaints state.

Rahami bought several bomb components on eBay between June 20, 2016 and Aug. 10, 2016 and had the items shipped to a business located in Perth Amboy.

Authorities recovered 12 fingerprints from the 27th Street bomb in New York, including on the pressure cooker, duct tape and trigger cell phone.

The federal document also noted investigators matched Rahami's fingerprints on a backpack left with explosives near the Elizabeth NJ Transit station.

According to the complaint, phones designed to function as timers on bombs in Seaside Park and Chelsea were shipped to and believe to be purchased at the same Perth Amboy store, which was located approximately 500 meters from an address Rahami listed as his residence on a 2012 passport application.

ebay:

Investigators believe Mr. Rahami bought some of the materials he used to make bombs on eBay between June 20 and Aug. 10 under the name “ahmad rahimi.”

On July 12, that user bought an electric igniter for a fireworks system. The Federal Bureau of Investigation said that “an analysis of the 27th Street bomb identified numerous electric igniters inside.”

On July 31, the user bought a circuit board, which the authorities said could be used in explosive devices.

On Aug. 10, the user bought what authorities believe to be citric acid, which was described on the online auction site as being “great for bath bombs and candy making.” The F.B.I. described citric acid as a precursor for improvised explosives.

On various dates, the user bought items listed as milling balls and slingshot ammo, which investigators said could be used to increase a bomb’s fragmentation.

The items were shipped to a business where Mr. Rahami worked.

Ahmad Khan Rahami Listed Jihad Videos, Judge Judy on YouTube Account

http://time.com/4502525/ahmad-khan-rahami-jihad-youtube-videos/

Rhamani’s YouTube account, which used the username yaafghankid786, included a list of his favorite videos

One of the videos referenced a martyr’s anthem, and the other featured images of battles on a desert

The 96 videos on the list also included love songs, a clip from Judge Judy and a cat video. They were created by others, not by Rahami.

__

His youtube playlist is still up:

___

there was also a social media account with the username Yaafghankid78. The user of that account had listed favorite videos posted by other users, two of which related to jihad: "Jihad nasheed ya shahid" (jihad is a martyr's anthem) and "best jihad nasheed" anthem.

Now I wonder what those people who sold it to him are thinking. Also, Citric acid on eBay..and seller sells it to Ahmad rahami...did they really think Ahmad was going to make bath bombs or candy?!?!

Cytric acid could be used for a whole lot of things-food additives, drinks additives, food preservatives.

AKR was clearly influenced by Boston bombers case. There were a lot of clues in Boston Bomber's case too (the older one). They were still deemed not a threat.
Go figure.
