GUILTY NY - Barbara Maier Gustern, 87, brutally shoved in street, dies, Manhattan, 12 March 2022 *arrest*

  • #21
The perp is a dead ringer for a certain Danish punk-pop singer. She was performing in California that week though. It would really extraordinary if she hopped a plane back to New York in the middle of that.

Or maybe she's got a sister?

Definitely picking up a Northern European vibe. My first thought was Russian. Could be Scandinavian, German, English, etc.

Interestingly, the posts I've seen on Twitter have asked for help in locating this person, not identifying her.

The clothes, esp. the boots, suggest punk-chic style. Could be some little starlet who was upset her squeaky voice wasn't deemed up to par.

Anyway, TheForeigner, thanks for your attention to this.

Concerning POI Tip in the Barbara Maier Gustern case.
Hi, I believe I have found the person of interest in the Barbara Maier Gustern murder case.
Can anyone provide me an email address to the NYPD or NY Crimestoppers that I can send the information to.
I am located in Denmark and can not call the crimestoppers phonenumber.
Best regards Theforeigner

Yesterday I was able to call NYPD Crime Stoppers and when I told them I probably had found the POI in the Barbara Maier Gustern case they told me -"we don't need your tip we have already identified the suspect" . I found that kind og odd due to that so far no info whatsoever in media that police have identified the POI, and yesterday still lots of request in media to the public to assist police in identifying the suspect. Don´t know what to think

I really like your analysis of the clothing- clearly not homeless or even semi homeless.

Now, that you mention it, she does seem to vibe more northern European rather than say, Slavic- much less Italian or Greek.

The original colonists of NYC were Dutch, followed by English. So, perhaps an old school New Yorker descended from one of these early groups ala Donald Trump (Dutch from Queens)?

As you stated, the clothes could support the possibility of an aspiring entertainer of some sort.

I wonder if the victim sat on a school or academy board that made decisions regarding which aspiring actors /actresses were accepted, which were rejected, and... which were later cut for say, lack of effort or conduct issues?

So was the person you thought it was right or did they not even take the name?

Suspect in 87-year-old grandmother's shove death surrenders to NYPD

<snip> Lauren Pazienza, 26, of Port Jefferson, turned herself in at the 10th Precinct and was charged with manslaughter.

<snip> A source close to the case tells Eyewitness News that Pazienza did not know the victim.

Not much on Pazienza on the web. She was set to be married this June, but her zola wedding site is scrubbed or otherwise not available.

There's this, which indicates a possible motive. There have been a rash of random attacks on the elderly in New York recently. This is assuming she did not know the victim, as a previous linked story indicated.

Woman accused of shoving beloved Broadway singing coach arrested for manslaughter
excerpt:
The incident happened just before 8:30 p.m. on March 10. Gustern was walking near West 28th Street between 8th and 9th avenues, close to her apartment in Chelsea, when a female suspect shoved her to the ground. Gustern hit her head, and the suspect then fled the scene.

According to The New York Times, Gustern was awake initially after the attack, and told a friend at the scene, “I’ve never been hit so hard in my life." She also reportedly told police that her assailant "shouted a derogatory term before assaulting her," though the details of that term have not been released.

Gustern slipped into unconsciousness after that, and was taken to Bellevue Medical Center. Her grandson later wrote on Facebook that she had suffered "traumatic damage to the left side of her brain." She died on March 15, five days after the attack.

There isn't much on the web, but I'm guessing that is because she has scrubbed it before turning herself in (IMO). Anyone that knows her recognized her in the photograph. She spent the last few days preparing to be arrested, IMO.

Saw photos of her on Patrick McMullan site (NYC events, nightlife, etc). Don't know if still there

I just don't understand why. Impulse control issues? If you google her some images do come up and she appears to at least have some people in her life who appear to care for her and who she appears to care for. It just makes no sense to me that someone would do this.

<snip> According to a source, Pazienza has retained New York City-based attorney Arthur Aidala, who arranged for her to turn herself in to the NYPD’s 10th precinct on Tuesday morning.

NY woman charged with manslaughter after turning self in for death of Broadway vocal coach, sources say

Aidala is a nationally known criminal defense lawyer and "Attorney to the A-Listers".
Pazienza's family is not poor, that's for sure. I would expect her to be released forthwith on bail and any trial that might happen to take many months to commence.

IF both the victim and the accused were trying to hail a cab (rather than ordered an Uber or Lyft), the driver may have seen BMG first and pulled over to pick her up rather than the accused who then became infuriated and retaliated.

I've seen crazy fights occur over cabs esp in pre-Uber/Lyft days

Her power lawyer will probably get the DA to reduce the charges to assault or at the most, involuntary manslaughter, and Pazienza will get a fine and "community service". Just my guess.

Onset of bipolar disorder? It is around this age (26) that these issues often begin to manifest. Was she on any psychoactive medications? In the recent photos she appears to have gained weight.

Could very well be. I've seen it control the lives of several people I love. They do have impulse control issues, but theirs do not tend to manifest in violence, so I don't have firsthand experience. I know it is possible, though.

I sure hope there are witnesses and cameras proving she did it.

Little Miss Pazienza will no doubt be free on bail soon, and charges inevitably reduced with her high-powered attorney on retainer.
I'd like to know what the "derogatory term" was that she allegedly shouted at the victim before shoving her. Was it about her age?? There has been a surge in random attacks on the elderly in NY and other large cities recently.
There could be a federal hate crime case here, and that charge is less easily reduced.

I hate liking your post, but I know you're right.
I'd also like to know what was shouted.
